Overall Satisfaction with Xactly Incent

Xactly Incent is currently being used by our Xactly system administrators for sales rep setups, managing quota and revenue attainments, routing sales documents, and calculation configurations. It is used by the Sales Reps to track their revenues, achievements, and payments. It replaces manual Excel spreadsheets that can be prone to human errors.

I have used Xactly Incent for over 7 years and it does have its pros and cons.
Pros: One place to view incentive statement for quotas, revenues, attainments, and payments. Easy to route and approve plan documents.
Cons: The system has so many limitations. Xactly engineers tend to focuse on non-important enhancements instead of tackling real system bug issues.

  • Can configure sales plan calculations for even the most complex of plans.
  • One central place for record keeping of quotas, revenues, payments, and plan documents.
  • Once data is updated, sales reps can view it instantly.
  • Easy to route and approve sales plans.
  • Although Xactly Incent is a great tool, it has so many challenges. It does not have drill-in features for all the data that is uploaded to the system.
  • Finalizing a monthly calculated period is quite cumbersome, and un-finalizing can be a nightmare.
  • Xactly Incent engineers focus more on aesthetic enhancements instead of day to day challenges that users face.
  • In order to un-finalize one business group, you need to reopen and unfinalize ALL business groups. This can cause issues and errors.
  • In the incentive statement, can't drill in to see what the actual draws were for. Would be helpful to see if the draw was recoverable, non-recoverable, etc.
  • Would be great if can enter bonus or payment adjustments directly similar to a draw payment.
  • When a payment amount is drilled into to see the details, there is no "close" button.
  • I wish the system would calculate final payment amount for review without having to close out the period.
  • Saves time on calculations.
  • Real time access to data and quota acheivement.
  • Eliminates human error.
  • Too much time spent working around system limitations. A sales comp analyst needs to get creative to make the incentive statement show the intended results.
We have to use our own in-house sales performance attainment dashboards outside of Xactly due to the many Xactly system limitations.
Because Xactly has so many system limitations, our company has to use other system tools for sales performance managements.
It did benefit to have the above systems integrated with Xactly.
No other department at our company, other than our own Sales Compensation dept, uses Xactly. They don't need to and Xactly has so many limitations.
I have used Callidus for commissions calculations before and each system has its own pros and cons. Because I have used Xactly Incent longer than Callidus, and I'm still currently using it, I have gotten used to Incent and all its challenges. Callidus was also a great tool as well and performs almost the same functions as Incent.

I have also used Varicent for a couple of years as well, and it has its own pros and cons as well.
Xactly Incent is well suited if you have a large sales force with complicated plans and complicated commission calculations. It is a great place to store all data for revenues, quotas, achievements, payments, documents, etc.
Where it is less useful is the reporting capabilities. It has lots of room for improvement. Also, calculations in the system can be streamlined to make them less complex. In addition, Xactly engineers tend to focus on non-important enhancements that don't have much value instead of fixing the small issues that can make a huge difference.

Using Xactly Incent

Users vary from sales reps, to management, to system administrators.
  • Commission Calculations
  • Reporting
  • Revenue Achievments
  • Keeping track of who is on commissions
  • Routing sales plan documents
  • Organization Hierachies
  • Reporting
  • Calculations
  • Document Routing
It is not my decision to renew but up to the management and executives at the company. I gave it a 5 rating because it's 50/50 right now and it depends on the cost of the new contract versus the benefits of the system. There are some challenges in the system that we hope can be resolved.

Evaluating Xactly Incent and Competitors

Xactly Incent Support

It is easy to open support tickets and keep track of their status. However, some tickets take unnecessarily many weeks to resolve and need to escalate.
ProsCons
Kept well informed
Quick Initial Response
Poor followup
Problems left unsolved
Escalation required
Difficult to get immediate help
Need to explain problems multiple times
Yes - No. Sometimes bugs are reported and they are never fixed. It would help if Xactly engineers worked on resolving all the bug issues instead of spending too much time on non-important enhancemens.
Sometimes I have technical issues with Xactly Incent and the support rep is super helpful to resolve them in a timely manner. They are mindful of our payroll deadlines and escalate issues that require engineering support.

There are other times where it would take a month to get a resolution and it is only after I escalated the issues.

Using Xactly Incent

The system can be, at times, easy to use and at other times too cumbersome. It has many challenges and is not perfect. Xactly engineers seem to focus on non-urgent issues and more on aesthetics then tackling the major challenges we experience with the system. If the major challenges are fixed, then I would rate Incent a much higher score.
