Overall Satisfaction with Yubico
YubiKeys are being used by a small part of people within the organization to act as a physical token for MFA.
- Security: The YubiKey is a great option for securing accounts!
- Portability.
- Connection points: there are several types of YubiKeys available making it convenient to use with apple devices directly, for example. The lightening/USB-C option is a solid choice for if you have several mac or iPhone users leveraging the key.
- The management application is confusing. It's very easy to invalidate your key/reset it by mistake.
- Not a consistent experience across applications. This isn't necessarily YubiKey's fault, but it's enough to be an annoying quirk.
- Securing accounts.
- Physical Token.
- Ease of use.
RSA token is another option used by many organizations. I think there is a definite benefit to soft tokens, but there's an inherent problem with them as well. If you have to reset your phone, you lose the ability to use that soft token until you set it up again, thus making self service difficult if you can't log in. Having a physical token when considering a remote workforce is easier to self serve. But there's also the aspect that it's harder to manage a physical token for a remote workforce since it's physical. Definite pros and cons.
