Overall Satisfaction with Zerto

We leverage Zerto for Disaster Recovery failover between our primary data center and our secondary data center. We put all of our critical, Tier 1 applications into Zerto replication groups so we can fail them over in case of an emergency. We have also used Zerto for data center consolidations and migrations since it is a great tool to be used for that type of project as well.
  • Zerto is easy for our administrators to setup and use. Setting up new replication groups or modifying an existing replication group is very straightforward.
  • Zerto makes it easy to test out disaster recovery failovers.
  • Zerto does a great job of doing replication very fast and leveraging vmware change block tracking.
  • Zerto is a rather expensive tool.
  • Better email alert throttling would be good - it can get too noisy with the default alerts.
  • Zerto has allowed our administrators to spend more time on other activities instead of having to care and feed our DR solution.
  • Zerto has cut down the time of doing DR testing from 16 hours down to 4 hours - so that has been great as well.
  • Zerto has allowed us to achieve our corporate RTO and RPO metrics.
Zerto is a lot more flexible that VMware SRM. We used to use SRM and it was very rigid. All of our protection groups were based on storage volumes so any time anything needed to be added or removed from a protection group you had to adjust the storage volume and make other changes in SRM. With Zerto it is much easier to add or remove servers into protection groups. The scripting and instrumentation for bringing protection groups is much easier with Zerto as well.
We have been very pleased with Zerto support. We also get great support from our sales team after the original sale. They are very attentive and keep us abreast of new versions, road-map items, and make sure we are getting the most out of the product. When we have had issues and call for support we have gotten really good engineers that are typically able to help us fix the issues quickly.

Zerto is a great option if you are looking for an enterprise-class disaster recovery solution. It is not cheap though, so if you are a SMB there may be cheaper alternatives out there that may get you what you need. Zerto is also a great tool for data center consolidations if you need to migrate VMs from one data center to another very easily.
