GIMP is a go-to application for me to perform all kinds of graphical creation and editing. I've used it to update company logos, to create and modify technical diagrams, to convert graphical formats, to upscale files, design client's digital greeting cards, and more.
  • photo editing
  • provide compatibility with numerous file formats
  • make it very simple to manipulate layers in a file
  • Plugins
  • GIMP should make the font tool more intuitive. Make it easier to change fonts during edit process without resetting the typeface selection.
  • Build in selection/move ability within tools like the typeface tool... I.e. don't require toggle between selection tool and typeface tool when wanting to move a line of type within a layer. Likewise with shapes, etc.
GIMP is best suited as somewhat of a Photoshop alternative: image creation/editing, graphic design, and is especially true when dealing with raster files.

For vector formats, I prefer a tool more suited such as Inkscape.
  • There is no downside here. GIMP is freely available and is worth the downloading and installing.
While Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator are the gold standards, there is nothing I've used for as long which compares for overall graphical content creation/editing offered freely that comes close to what GIMP can accomplish. For vector formats, I prefer to work in something more suited for the task. Inkscape is my current choice.

Inkscape combined with GIMP make a pretty powerful combo for graphical work.

I am the sole user of GIMP at my company. I am a senior IT engineer and also double as a content creator when required.

Familiarity with basic graphical design concepts, filetypes, etc. Experience with Photoshop will translate well.
  • Graphic editing: image editing, touch-ups...
  • Content creation: logos, promo material...
  • Upscaling and image file conversion...
Capability, open architecture, compatibility with Photoshop plugins, wide platform coverage; To me, as an open-source, freely available application, it's the nest-in-class.

There were no change management processes involved in the implementation of GIMP at my company.
Never Contacted GIMP support... Never had an issue with the produce.
No
It's very similar to Photoshop. I feel Adobe's fit, finish, and tool functionality are superior. For the price, nothing comes close to GIMP for overall capability.
  • image upscaling
  • image editing
  • layer manipulation
  • changing typefaces in font tool

I use GIMP for architectural projects. I really like this product and use it every day at work. I never had problems. I have been using it for years, since I discovered it, and I continue to use it even now that it is paid. I recommend it to everybody.
  • Architectural projects
  • Compatibility with other softwares
  • Friendly interface
  • It is perfect for my use.
I use it in architectural design--both for the design phase and for the compilation of all official documents that I have to send to the public administration to obtain building permits. Its very simple interface allows me to work quickly without wasting time.
Its compatibility with other softwares allows me to interface with other users who use other programs.
  • Only positive impacts
It is not easy to find a free image editing software with the same quality. This software gives the advantages of a very expensive one for free. No compatibility problems with other softwares. Easy to use but complete interface. You launch it for the first time and you feel like you have always used it.
I interface GIMP with other software--I need to. I generally use the major calculation, CAD, word processing, and photo editing programs. In my office, my use of this software is not limited to computer-aided design. However, I am sure that if I needed this software for other purposes, it would have no interface problems.
I never needed support.
