What is ABBYY FineReader?

ABBYY FineReader is an Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software and PDF editor. It allows users to digitize their paper documents individually or in larger batches. The software is designed to manage and organize PDF documents. FineReader converts scanned documents into editable file formats, ensuring a high level of accuracy in the text. Users have access to FineReader's keyword search, which instantly retrieves the proper information. Any non-searchable document will instantly be converted with FineReader's OCR technology. Teams that frequently use surveys or document templates will appreciate the PDF form creator tool, as it will make their lives much easier.

FineReader offers flexible licensing options for businesses with local workstations, named users, and simultaneous users. ABBYY gives special pricing to educational organizations, allowing them to deploy FineReader on all campus-owned PC devices. FineReader PDF 15 Corporate includes a Robotic Process Automation (RPA) or Extended Command Line Interface (CLI) solution. Individuals should evaluate their OCR needs before purchasing FineReader. The Standard version is suitable for digitizing and converting a reasonable number of documents. If you are looking for more automations, the Corporate version will be a better fit for your use case. macOS users are limited to one option, which only creates PDFs from scanned documents.

The main benefit of using FineReader is its accessibility. It is cross-platform and supported by Windows, macOS, and mobile devices. There is also a Screenshot Reader that easily converts screenshot images into text. You have the option to save the text in your desired file format, insert the image in a document, or store it on your computer. The Screenshot Reader recognizes up to 180 languages and offers extremely accurate text recognition. Customers highlight the convenience of capturing screenshots from any source. They also value Screenshot Reader's user-friendly, intuitive interface.

FineReader’s OCR capabilities are useful for businesses that want to digitize their paper files or search for important text in PDF files. ABBYY identifies legal professionals, educators, and public sector employees as customers who greatly benefit from FineReader’s OCR capabilities and collaboration tools. For all of these industries, FineReader makes recordkeeping more organized. Nothing is more frustrating and time-consuming than having to manually sort physical documents. The collaboration tools make it easy for individuals to leave comments in their documents or bookmark important sections. Anyone who purchases FineReader for personal use should focus on its document management features and collaboration toolkit.

FineReader is being used currently by our analytics and data processing division in which it has been a staple in our business for the last 10 years. It solves a critical problem in recognizing and converting scanned documents as well as attachments into various formats to distribute amongst the team and organization. The sophistication of the software is impressive in how it can handle and automatically read whatever documents it's provided with suggested file outputs.
  • Read and analyze complicated documents
  • Automatically recognize tables and charts
  • Convert any documents into various common formats
  • Defining lines within tables is a bit tricky
  • Improving the scanned documents resolution to process small fonts
FineReader is critical for any business that handles scanned documents or works with files that need conversion to Excel, PDF, Powerpoint or various other programs. It's ability to automatically process, read documents and suggest tables is impressive. It can take printed documents and convert all of the text to a editable format which is a huge time saver. In regards to tables it can automatically find and identify columns and separate them out for immediate use in Excel.
  • Converting scanned documents into editable formats
  • Recognizing and formatting tables for use in Excel
  • Processing and analyzing hundreds of pages with a single click of a button
  • Workload efficiency has more than quadrupled
  • Saving exhausted hands from typing or trying to replicate a physical document
  • Replaced workforce jobs by automatically converting documents instantly
While Adobe Reader can identify documents and convert them to some other various formats, it cannot process the documents to identify tables for use in Excel. We only had success by letting Adobe read a file for any identifiable text but it wasn't always accurate. FineReaders ability to handle hundreds of pages at once felt leaps and bounds above Adobe.

ABBYY FineReader is being used for high-quality OCR scanning and editing documents. Superb comparison tools help to increase efficiency and save a considerable amount of time. It is a must-have software for any organization, even for those having minimal document turnover.
  • OCR scanning
  • Refining scanned text
  • Sophisticated and flexible OCR settings/adjustments
  • High-quality editing and document comparison tools
  • Conversion to MS Word (formatting accuracy issues occur)
  • Conversion to MS Excel (formatting accuracy issues occur)
The most common scenario is a need to do a high-level OCR-scan of a document followed by heavy editing. I believe that FineReader is in its own league in that regard, and there is no single reason why would someone choose an alternative soft for the purpose.
Another common scenario is a need of detailed comparison of pdf documents. A massive help!
  • OCR scanning
  • Document conversion
  • Document editor
  • PDF document comparison tool
  • ABBYY FineReader is an irreplaceable tool for preparing documents for document management systems and getting the most of them afterward
  • Great time saver in various scenarios related to work with scans and photos of documents
ABBYY FineReader is far more advanced and accurate for OCR-related tasks than Kofax Power PDF. When it comes to working with languages, other than English, ABBYY FineReader has a total advantage in all possible aspects. Editing tools in ABBYY FineReader work exceptionally well and can cover all needs I can think of. The document comparison tool is also surprisingly accurate and easy to use, and, therefore, is my choice for comparison tasks.

ABBYY FineReader is a powerful tool that you normally use to recognize pdf files, such as ocr or even advanced editing of these files, direct digitization to a docx file, xlsx, images, etc. In our department, it boosts productivity by managing large text files and avoids retranscriptions and redesign of tables that would cost a lot of valuable time that is invested in the fundamental tasks of our work
  • Advanced text recognition
  • Editing complex documents
  • Fragment recomposition, image relocation, worksheet cleaning, among others
  • Easy and fast configuration, in addition to the support of a large number of different digitization equipment
  • A versioning system of the work done or the editions that have been saved in the files, or a tracking of changes between one version and another would be fabulous
  • An improvement that would be asked would be as previews or suggestions of the type of file that could be beneficial to use in an edition
  • The redesign of the panels is that of the analyzed document, the edition and the changes in my opinion need a resizing to have a better view of the work
[ABBYY FineReader is well suited] to edit advanced documents that contain text, images, tables, columns among others, I used it when I have a large text file and they ask me to go in editable file type like docx, Another common use is when in documents there is personal or sensitive information that should not be public knowledge and you want to cure or erase this information without prejudice to the understanding of the background of the document.
  • Great positive impact on productivity as it helps to avoid spending so much time scanning or editing documents
  • Staff use the time saved with this tool on the substantive tasks of their position
  • Our objective, being a public institution, is of a benefit to the population and not commercial, therefore everything that we add to perform efficiently and effectively, our work is always well appreciated.
Although both have functionalities that they share, in ABBYY FineReader they are better implemented, they have a better performance, in addition to being a more intuitive and simple user that makes their learning curve relatively simple, it is as if the options I need are always available. the hand and not within complicated menus or overloaded interfaces
