We use Acquia DAM (Widen) to host all of our global digital content and syndicate to all of our websites through our PIM system. This platform allows easy access to our product content across multiple brands, categories and formats and through the use of portals helps us streamline priority content for new product launches and campaigns.
  • Host significant quantities of digital content
  • Customizes file formats based on application
  • Filters assets to make searching for file easier
Cons
  • Editing tools are on the roadmap and would be a huge help for our customers and designers to customize content.
  • Due to file sizes it often takes a while to process the files for download. Not sure anything can be done about that.
  • We have built some custom APIs to connect to our PIM and CMS but building more connectors would be helpful.
Acquia DAM (Widen) is a great platform for medium to large sized organizations hosting a significant amount of digital content that is needed in different formats. It is also valuable as a one-stop-shop for outside partners, media and vendors to access content versus always reaching out to our design team for support.

As a global company, we use Widen as its intended use as a true DAM. Any finalized corporate images, literature, videos, etc are housed here to be shared with other employees or customers as needed.

We segment the DAM by region (North America, Europe, Australia) and control permissions accordingly so users see relevant assets. We then tag the assets heavily with metadata to provide the best search and filter results as we can.
  • Asset Share Options via Links
  • Asset Versioning
  • Customer Support/Communication
  • Uptime
  • Metadata Options
Cons
  • Better Portal Management: Customization options, layers of portals
  • Analytics (especially for Portals)
  • Better sharing of collections
Widen's true strength is being able to share assets with a link. Being able to share any type of asset via a simple link and knowing the link will always be up to date with the latest version really simplifies the process and there's not a lot of different files floating around.
Version management has improved and I can't recommend the combination of these features enough.

We utilize Acquia DAM as a way to store our files and photos for the entire organization. The problem the product addresses is our ability to store and use files state wide for our organization.
  • Organization
  • File System
  • Preview File
Cons
  • User Login
  • Categories
Since we are a statewide organization it is easy for us to upload files and be able to download them when we need to - it also allows for multiple people to access files in an instance compared to other services
