https://media.trustradius.com/product-logos/0o/ED/B44SZIS8EMTA.PNGAffordable Marketing Automation that gets the job done adequatelyAct-On was being used by marketing to support sales. It was purchased and implemented to facilitate email marketing, landing page design/development, and database organization--amongst other things. Marketing campaigns were to be run and reported on out of Act-On so that we could prove ROI for our marketing efforts. It was integrated with our CRM (Netsuite). 3-5 people at the most would be working inside of the platform, to run between 2-3 marketing campaigns per month.,Folder structure for list management and marketing assets/campaigns are easy to use. It was easy to keep things organized. Email testing was accurate and straightforward. Existing templates to build landing page and emails from were responsive out of the box.,Building email and landing page templates are difficult, the drag and drop builder is not straightforward, and requires coding knowledge The workflow tool is cumbersome and not as intuitive as I'd expect a best in class marketing software's to be Domain connections and domain management functionality made it difficult to manage multiple company domains and subdomains for pages,5,Act-On was minimal spend, so it was easier to understand not having all of the ease of use in features that we wanted. We have developers in house, so we were able to get everything done we needed to. We promoted our solutions to our contacts successfully. We were able to create visually appealing emails and landing pages that were on-brand and conversion-focused like we wanted to.,HubSpot, SharpSpring, Marketo and Pardot,25,000 to 100,000,B2B,HubSpot, SharpSpring, PardotAct-On is Time EfficiencyOur organization used Act-On for over two years as a whole. Act-On became our main source of emailing all of our constituents through our newsletter, gaining new donors through campaigns, providing information and so much more. We not only used the email campaign but we also used the landing page feature, the survey feature, the automated series feature and the form feature. Each of these functions were used at least on a bi-weekly basis. Being able to create aesthetically pleasing emails ourselves solved the issue of having to hire a company to outsource our emails. Being able to use the landing page feature solved the same issue and also allowed us to create pages on a quick turn around when we needed information out urgently. Having these landing pages was a saving grace on multiple occasions when the information was needed to be resolved or communicated more clearly. Having the forms options not only saved us from outsourcing but also let us collect data in a clean way through the same email campaign we emailed from. The automated series was one of my favorite aspects of Act-On as it allowed us to plan ahead with campaigns and set them up automatically.,Act-On's customer service is exceptional, they are quick and thorough when you are needing help. For example, we could not figure out how to automate a birthday date for our birthday campaign and the representative was able to walk through the process with myself and another team member. This is a strength of Act-On because many other companies do not have customer services that will speak with you, they direct you to blogs or informational sessions. The landing pages that Act-On has created for use on the web is exceptional. The formatting is very user-friendly and the templates are great to navigate. The landing pages allow you to make the page fit whatever campaign or reason you are in need of. This is a strength of Act-On because the landing pages resolve the issue of having to create actual web pages. The spam feature of Act-On's emails is a great add on. This feature allows you to test how the spam alerts are triggered in your email and how you can fix it. This has helped many emails be developed in a way so that they reach many more people than they would have without this feature. many other programs do not have this feature.,They can greatly improve how you are able to place photos in emails. The current way is very archaic and takes a long time to navigate to find your photo. Once your photo is in the email, you cannot crop or adjust the size. This should be upgraded. The A/B testing or dynamic emails needs to be worked on. You can not currently test emails before placing them in a series to go to contacts, the testing route is long and usually ends up in frustration. There needs to be a way to test dynamic emails so that you can ensure success before sending.,8,With the Automated Series, we were able to put in place campaigns that generated revenue that took no time to continue running once set up. This was a positive feature allowing employees to work on another project while the campaign ran on their own.,Pardot,25,000 to 100,000,B2C,Pardot, Asana, Skype, TogglAct-On Keeps Up with the Big Guys of Marketing AutomationAs an agency, we use Act-On to manage all our clients' marketing automation efforts. And that covers a lot of ground: web and social tracking, form submissions, content downloads, list management, lead scoring, landing pages reporting and, of course, email programs. The Act-On ecosystem is solid and each of the pieces complements each other well enough to create a marketing automation whole if that makes sense. So your emails "know" who visited what landing page and your forms "know" if this person has downloaded other content. This connected system allows you to build complex marketing campaigns, all within the Act-On system. That said, we use for all of the above. Mileage varies from client to client, but we certainly use every part of Act-On. We will build our client landing pages in Act-On, we house our email templates in Act-On, we upload marketing content to Act-On -- I'm in it all the time! In fact, I have it open in one of my browser tabs as I am writing this review. Overall, it is a solid marketing automation platform. Act-On manages lists, segments, email programs, and sync's with SalesForce very well, but in some areas like landing page design and reporting it falls short.,List Management. Act-On has some powerful segmentation tools that complement the automated programs very well. Act-On lets you really slice and dice your lists however you see fit. Connected to Salesforce, Act-On becomes super-charged. Automated Programs. You can then take your targeted segments and create robust automated programs that can be tailored into specific tracks for your targeted audience. Webinar Programs. If you use GotoWebinar or WebEx, managing the webinar is a breeze. Act-On will handle the invitations, registrations, reminders and post-event follow-up for you. It works really well.,Landing Page Design. The drag and drop builder is OK. But it feels very limited for someone who has a good knowledge of HTML, CSS, Javascript, etc. Inevitably, there will be something that you simply can't do in Act-On that you could do in a standard web design environment. No Server Side Scripts. There isn't any way to retrieve data in your lists and add it to a landing page. Basically, you can't use any data stored in an Act-On list and add it to a landing page. It's limited. There is simply some data you can't pull from Act-On and into a 3rd Party Reporting app.,7,Act-On has helped us find new business. As an agency, we can help clients get started with marketing automation. With proper strategic planning, Act-On is a great tool for moving leads through your funnel. We also have Prospecting and Media databases that exist in only Act-On, and are not in our CRM. We use Act-On for product introductions, newsletters, media outreach, and landing pages. The results of the campaigns are shared with the sales team and upper management. We also embed forms created in Act-On into our website and use automated emails to forward leads to our sales team. We have three marketing users, with our Digital Marketing Manager being the primary user. Act-On helps us stay in touch with people who want to hear from us and efficiently manage those who don't. It helps us keep our Lead database clean by allowing us to remove people from our CRM who do not productively interact with us. It also helps us consolidate a variety of outbound marketing activities in one platform.,Embedded website forms and automated emails when forms are filled. Reporting on results in high-level graphical formats with the option to drill down to individual records. To serve as a portal to store prospect data until it is qualified to move to our CRM.,The social distributions didn't render well, so we don't use Act-On for social media marketing. Instead, we distribute directly from each platform. The webinar integration with Webex did not work well, so we do webinars outside of Act-On, using Zoom. We have always had deliverability issues with Act-On, with people in our database who want to get our emails and those who do not.,8,Improves marketing productivity by consolidating and simplifying outbound communication tasks. It is used across our agency distribution marketing department. We use Act-On to create our marketing messages and direct them to our agents. It addresses the business problem of how we get our messages out to agents. Act-On is great because it allows us to quickly segment and get our messages to agents quickly if needed. The segmentation is good because we can import lists with demographic and business data allowing us to segment our messages to the right agents.,Act-On gives us flexibility to create high quality emails because we have the ability to import images and create links to websites or PDFs to increase agent engagement. Act-On has a great survey tool that allows me to create survey so that I can quickly gather information from our customer base for our business needs. The data is delivered in spreadsheet format so it can be easily analyzed. Act-On gives me the ability to create landing pages, which I can link our agents to more information with by an email. We have the same flexibility to create high-end landing pages. Act-On has great engagement reporting of our email sends. I look forward to reviewing the reports with my internal customers to show how the emails have performed from an open and click standpoint.,I think Act-On could have a better folder system for marketing lists. I think Act-On could offer a faster way to clean up lists and images. Right now you have to remove one at a time. Act-On could make it easier to pull in personalized data to an email from an extension list. It is a two-step process right now.,10,Act-On has a positive impact because our business is constantly changing so having the ability to create a survey and get feedback is critical for us to make the right business decisions. Act-On allows us to create positive agent engagement with our agents because we use Act-On to deliver our agent rewards program. Act-On is powerful because we can also use it for sending invites and registrations for our live video chats. Act-On interfaces with WebEx so this can be achieved automatically.,,100,000 to 250,000,B2B,SnagitAct-On tries its best, you get your money's worth, but it's not truly the best out there. My company used Act-On to collect customer/prospect/partner data, view trends based on industries and titles, send marketing email campaigns to different levels of our engagement "funnel", design and send both internal and external newsletter emails, set up resource pages for our website and special events, and use forms to gate resources or facilitate sign-ups for events.,I liked their functionality for creating landing pages and forms. They looked nice, had plenty of options, and were easy to embed in websites. Creating email campaigns was easy and effective through Act-On. With A/B testing, automated campaigns, and sleek design, it felt very professional. It connected well with Salesforce, provided we had matching contact criteria. It was fast and easy to sync up. The automation function within webinars was always efficient and convenient. They synced with GoToWebinar as well as Salesforce to make for a smooth invitation / follow-up / attendee tracking process every time.,The designer tools, especially for emails, were often difficult to use. The formatting of the text would be all over the place and change / refuse to change at random. Moving boxes around was shifty and sometimes nearly impossible. It just wasn't customizeable enough. No "undo" functionality either. The only way to collect information expansively over time (there's a term Act-On uses for it, I can't recall) where it adds questions to the form each time a user fills it out, is if the person were to fill out the same form multiple times. I know this does happen for some websites/resources, but as a company that wanted to collect new information each time someone filled out any form, regardless of the resource or the URL, that was simply not an option, and that doesn't really make a lot of sense. I know it's not really possible to track someone but if they filled out the first part of the form and then it added new questions to answer, and then they submitted and got through the gating, that would actually be helpful. There was no "trash can" of sorts in case you deleted something by mistake. This could be so stress-inducing if it was a major project. My coworker did this once, contacted Act-On, they couldn't even recover it.,6,Positive- quick setup for webinars between 3 different tools, made it easy to do in high volume Negative- lots of processes with the designer tools that made email/landing page design take longer than it should have, costing man hours Positive- email automation with different types of campaigns we could have flowing at once or could span across multiple audience segments made it so we could consistently create touch points and increase our engagement, thus our ROI over time,HubSpot,25,000 to 100,000,B2BEasy Automation at a Great Price! We use Act-On for all of our email efforts. Currently, just the email department is using Act-On. We needed a platform to send one-off emails and automation tracks. Currently, we have over 8 automated nurture tracks. For example, if someone is added to our lead database they will instantly receive a welcome email followed by a demo email. We needed an easy to use solution to set up these automated tracks and chose Act-On based on the intuitive level of service it offers.,Act-On excels with its SalesForce integration. We haven't had any issues and it's always in sync. Easy automation. It's really easy to set up workflows and the smart logic just makes sense. One of my favorite features is the ability to change links and images after an email has been sent. For example, if you have the wrong link after the email has been sent it's easy to go into Act-On, change the link, and Act-On will automatically create a redirect.,The database is a mess. Currently, there is no way to search the database for an individuals profile. You have to go into the list you think the individual resides in and do a search. This causes a lot of wasted time if you are using multiple lists. RSS feed is lacking. Certain design limitations make the RSS to email feature pointless. It looks like it was designed in the early 2000s. My biggest complaint is that the software is buggy. Sometimes the email won't be sent out in time.,7,It has saved us a lot of time and money by automating a lot of our email efforts. No more sending manual welcome emails. The customer support, from what I've heard, is very good. Integrations with other CRM systems make this really easy to add to a company's workflow.,It is one of the most expensive tools on the market, the price, compared to other similar tools, is very high. It's a little difficult to get accustomed to this software, it looks like it's designed for people that already have experience in the marketing and campaigns space. There are some necessary features, like contacts and sales users limitations, that are only available at higher pricing tiers, despite being already expensive for some of the lower tiers.,7,Consistently positive ROI: very specific ROI tracking and successful campaign tracking across various mediums: email, website, etc... We mostly use the platform for email marketing, automation, and to create landing pages for our marketing content. We’ve also started using Act-On to collect web data for lead generation.,My favorite Act-On feature is the web prospector. It allows you to gate your marketing content so that anyone viewing the content on your website provides information about their location, contact info, title, etc. It really helps us to generate leads for the sales team and has helped us get in contact with prospects who are highly interested in our products. The feature that we use the most is the outbound content section for creating emails. The templates and different sections you can add to emails enables us to create very organized, versatile emails while sticking to our own branding and color guidelines. After an email is sent in Act-On, the platform begins counting which links in an email were clicked the most. This really helped us to test how engaging certain emails were over others. It also helped us understand how to present certain content in a more engaging way. Something as simple as changing the color of a button can make our subscribers click on it, and we wouldn't have that insight without Act-On.,The most obvious con when using Act-On is that it’s not very intuitive. The menu options don’t always seem to correlate with what’s on that page so, I get lost on the platform often - even after using it for a year. I wish there was an easier way to organize content added to Act-On by other users within my organization. I often have to sort through emails and drafts that were created by other people on my team to be able to find my own drafts.,7,Our investment in Act-On has paid off through lead generation. By gaining insight on our web visitors and their activity, we were able to turn those visitors into customers with content published through Act-On. Our organization uses Act-On for sending out marketing content; to capture and manage lead scores and organize marketing campaigns.,Act-On is very strong in behavior based messaging, drip and nurture campaigns. Easy to use email design through WYSIWYG designer. Act-On handles volume of data quite well,Act-On's system navigation and overall UI could be improved as this is not intuitive at all. Often times, even after having used the system for some time it can be hard to find certain features or abilities of the platform. This turns out to be time intensive and could be better. Act-On is not at all set up to handle multiple teams working in 1 instance of the platform. Initially during the roll out of our platform we didn't know about this and we have 6 different teams working in the same instance which causes a lot of data management issues since the system's search capabilities are limited. Act-On's out-of-the-box connections to CRM system's is not ideal and could better. Our organization is using MS Dynamics 365 and there have been some issues in the set up, maintenance and continuous use of the Act-On connector Because of the way Act-On seems to be designed for a centralized structure rather than decentralized marketing teams, the reporting through their data studio creates a big gap. Act-On reports well per initiative, however aggregating data can only be through a 3rd party BI tool s.a. Tableau, MS Power BI, Qlik, etc.,7,Act-On allows us to track the behavior or our leads. This will give us insight into what drives the individual and allows us to have a detailed follow up conversation. This team goes above and beyond normal customer support. The support team is very friendly, always answers my questions immediately, and sends follow up emails. Their support team is so great that we've connected them with our customer support team to learn a thing or two! We have a very niche targeted audience that has a lot of weird email addresses (think info@address.com). Act-On's flexible suppress/bounce lists (spam) is truly impactful for our business. With other software, our account would probably have been suspended a few times due to sending to these email addresses. It's truly invaluable for our business. I truly feel that like a business partner of Act-On's. They regularly ask for feedback and we're happy to be beta testers for a lot of new features. Also, it's rewarding to not feel like "a customer" and instead feel like we're in business to grow together.,I don't have a lot of coding experience, both in HTML and/or CSS. Since I am in a content marketing department of one (startups!!), creating branded forms/landing pages/etc. can take a while. The interface isn't as beautiful as some of the other softwares. Not a big problem for us, but I suppose some other companies could be turned off by that.,9,By far email is the biggest driver of demand and lead gen. Since we've implemented Act-On and truly utilized the email marketing features, we've seen our leads multiply 5x and our activation in revenue multiply 3x. In fact, our expectations were exceeded. Value - price for service.,Being able to attach images to social posts More contemporary templates,10,Quality of communication Understanding of who is engaging with our communications Better guidance around comms optimized for SEO and engagement Removes the headache of admin around webinars, events, and demos,Hubspot,10,000 to 25,000,B2B,Salesforce.comA platform for your entire marketing teamOur initial purpose with Act-On was to improve our work with leads - before we had no clear overview or strategy for potential new customers. We didn't really know how many leads we had in the pipeline and definitely did not have a strategy in place on how to nurture them. However we have now also moved over many of our regular marketing activities to Act-On and been able to gather our work in a better way compared to before when we had many different systems.,It's been really easy to get started with Act-On! There are great step-by-step guides inside the platform on what you need to do in order to start using the system, and if any of the steps are unclear you can simply go to Act-On University to get a more detailed description. So far I've been in contact with my CSM (customer success manager), technical support, the area manager and the creative team and everyone has provided competent and friendly service. It's really simple to re-use assets such as forms, emails and landing pages. It saves our team a bunch of time since you almost never need to start over from scratch. To edit the assets is really simple through drag and drop functionality with great flexibility.,The available reports are quite static, so there is not much you can change. However I do know that this is a function that is more advanced if you go up to the Enterprise version. The alerts to sales people could be developed further, at the moment they are mainly based on demographic's of the visitor but I would like to be able to connect them to lists as well. The calendar provides a good overview of what has been done, but to fully optimize it I would like to be able to add planned activities. This would give the team a better possibility to plan and coordinate.,9,We've only had the system for 2 months so we still haven't been able to look at ROI. However I'm sure that it will be positive in the long run.,Hubspot, Marketo, Salesfusion and Pardot,Less than 10,000,B2B

Affordable Marketing Automation that gets the job done adequately

Act-On is easier to use than Marketo, but not as visually appealing and user-friendly as HubSpot. It's much better than Pardot, as Pardot feel clunky every step of the way. SharpSpring is comparable because of its price point but surpasses Act-On in its tools and intuitive interface. We selected Act-On because of the pricing model and thought all things would be close to parity with other options. It depends on the team you have. If you have developers and a marketing team that knows some html/css, you can get by with Act-On.

Act-On is Time Efficiency

Act-On was decided upon by the Marketing and Operations team. I am part of the Development team and was consulted on the aspects of reporting. However, our Marketing/Operations team were very pleased with the way you could personalize and create your own emails and campaigns without having to place many hours into the details. Our organization is on the smaller side with around 20 people so being able to manage one's time is critical to the success of our organization. Act-On is very easy to teach colleagues and this was one of the reasons it was chosen. Pardot is more complicated on many different levels.

Act-On Keeps Up with the Big Guys of Marketing Automation

Act-On does most everything that Marketo and HubSpot can and Act-On does some of them better and some of them worse. I've outlined the strengths and weaknesses of Act-On already. I am familiar with Marketo and HubSpot but not familiar enough with them to create a matrix type of comparison. Some of the differences are just different, not better or worse. For example, Marketo throws all the contacts into a master list of sorts and segments are created via queries. Act-On has user-created lists and segments built off each list.

We like ACT but it is for smaller companies

We have been evaluating HubSpot and Zoho CRM. These 2 are more expensive and more robust. These include more of the sales side interactions like pipelines, tasks, marketing emails, etc. Our team uses ACT as more of a Rolodex then a tool. Because we do have an outside ticket system so linking them all together is harder.

Act-On Marketing Automation is great for small businesses

Score 10 out of 10

Act-On is the scrappy little program that could. One of the biggest problems of the larger ESP and ABM services is that companies have to meet a high standard with their other software and IT in order to use them. I think this is a big failing on their part, considering that the majority of small to medium-sized businesses are using old out-of-a-box software that doesn't integrate. Act-On is the only software for marketing automation that creates a bridge between the two. Our company started with Act-On 2 years ago and we are still "getting a new CRM soon." With Act-On, those two years have contained the sales insights of Act-On and gathering data. Once we do finally get a CRM connected, we will just be able to build on that history, instead of starting over.
Additionally, Act-On charges you for active contacts, rather than the size of your full database. This is another differentiator that will save a company a lot of money.

We used to use a combination of SugarCRM and INBOX25, but we moved to a Microsoft platform and had to go to a compatible platform. Act-On was the perfect fit since it was compatible with both Sugar CRM and Dynamics CRM, which made our change over and integration relatively easy. Marketo is a very robust platform, but really more suited to larger companies using Salesforce. Act-On seems a better fit for a smaller organization like ours.

Act-On has a much more hands-on customer support focus than any of the other companies that we have worked with that do similar things. They also have a really easy to use platform (however I know they all do). It's one of those products that you feel good when you are using it.

I am a relatively new HubSpot user and have only used a few different things on there but so far, the UI/UX is much more pleasant, seems more organized, seems more capable in general. I had heard rave reviews about HubSpot from my former coworkers who were using Act-On with me, and from my current coworkers who have primarily used HubSpot in their careers. I'm still getting into the weeds myself but it does seem more comprehensive, even the internal member tracking/info collecting you can do seems to be more thorough.

We looked at using Pardot and decided to use Act-On due to pricing and ease of use. Pardot had a better Salesforce connection since they are owned by Salesforce. Pardot was very expensive and didn't offer some of the functionality we were looking for. For example, Pardot does not offer GDPR dynamic forms.

We like to know a variety here, and we know multiple marketing automation platforms to help provide the best direction to our clients. We need to provide the know-how in many different use cases. Sometimes, Act-On isn't always the best solution for a company's needs. Marketers have to be adaptable to help themselves and others drive success.

I think that if you're just starting out in email marketing, you'll probably navigate to a tool like Mailchimp. When you've gotten a good base of what the industry is and you want to do a little bit more, then you'll upgrade to HubSpot and then to Act-On. I feel like Act-on is a top tier software that rivals Marketo in some features, yet falls severely short in other areas.

HubSpot's pricing tiers are much cheaper in some cases, and they provide some of the tools that are included with Act-On Software's premium tiers. I believe Act-On has more versatility in tracking conversion and other rates out-of-the-box compared HubSpot, which is why we chose Act-On for our production metrics and have continued using their products.

Act-On has similar features as SharpSpring, but in my opinion, delivers better. While their customer service is not excellent, it is better than my experience with SharpSpring. As for MailChimp, Act-On has more robust features. But, it is also dramatically more challenging to set-up and deploy programs.

For a sales department, Act-on doesn't have many of the core functions of either ToutApp or Yesware.

Act-on is really a marketing tool that has bolted on a few features so that it can be sold as a tool for both marketing and sales. It was purchased by marketing without much input from sales.

The UI of Act-On was the main reason we decided to purchase Act-On as opposed to Marketo or ClickDimensions. Even though Marketo seems to be the most robust tool, with the most capabilities, many of these were add-on's or customization's that came with additional costs. Act-On support also seemed to be the best out of the 3 products we reviewed.

Act-On: Class Act in Customer Service and Support

Score 9 out of 10
Vetted Review

Alternatives Considered

When our contract was running out, we were exploring all options. We looked at Pardot as the other option. Ultimately, we stayed with Act-On for three reasons.

1) The customer support is a slam dunk in Act-On's favor. In fact, I'm willing to bet there's not another marketing automation platform that rivals Act-On's customer support team.
2) Email marketing. For us targeting a niche audience the fact that certain emails would force us our account to get suspended while it was evaluated was a huge deal breaker. We can't afford for our email & account to be suspended.
3) We just share a common mission and culture with Act-On. We make it a point to work only with companies that share common missions. We see Act-On as a business and brand that we'd like to have a long-term relationship with.

When adding all of these factors, it was clear that continuing work with Act-On made sense, in terms of dollars and cent, ROI, mission, and partnership.

HubSpot - Great templates for email and landing pages. Fantastic for targeted content if you have a large amount of content. Free CMS. Very good sales people promise a lot. But for our test experience, the service support did not stand up to Act-On. And our HubSpot testing indicated that costs would be hard to control as the help desk was of little help with basic problems - always handing us over to consultants who charge for support. The free CMS seemed like a no-brainer in comparisons but we became concerned that if we used HubSpot as our CMS, we may struggle to disentangle ourselves if we needed to in the future. Act-On is not as sophisticated as HubSpot. But for support - which you will need unless you are an experienced platform user - it is critical to our success. It also comes down to how much time you have to learn the system you have chosen - you only get out what you put in. Act-On is simpler and a better fit for our smaller team.

We were actually first leaning towards HubSpot, however they couldn't agree to our standard Code of Conduct (as a principle they never do) and since we have some strict purchasing routines that includes the supplier signing our CoC we were unable to go through with the deal. In the end we chose between Pardot and Act-On, and since we don't have Salesforce as a CRM many of the benefits with Pardot could not be realised for us. An important difference was also that Act-On had more easy to mange functions for dynamic content which we had as an important criteria.
