2 - HTML is not required, but can help if you want to color outside of the lines occasionally. Having a dedicated person to the program who primarily focuses on the day to day operation is ideal for taking full advantage of the system's operation. I use to manage it myself, but as the company found the product to be more valuable, I needed to dedicate more and more time to the system which lead to the hiring of a another person who manages it full time in addition to a few other responsibilities. This isn't so much about Act-on as it is with any marketing automation system. Ideally, you need someone to focus on it to get the full value of any system. Otherwise, there is always another project that requires your attention and pulls you away from your marketing system.

2 - OUr Senior Marketing Specialist - uses Act-On to create mailings, make forms, and campaigns.
Myself, VP Marketing - uses it for analytics and to help sales people know how to interpret alerts and data from ActOn.

2 - I had no experience working with an automated marketing application, and was able to pick up the basics in Act-On within a very short time. All my knowledge has been from on-the-job self training so that means the tools provided by Act-On are simple enough and yet robust enough to get a beginner like myself working on automated programs, email campaigns and designing emails very quickly. Our Marketing Manager who recently joined us is a very trained Marketing person and was able to further my training and get our programs into a more sophisticated place again very quickly. I love 2 things especially about Act-On - their amazing support staff being super responsive, and that they are constantly upgrading their application to meet customer's needs! Love them!

1 - I am the primary for email, forms, landing pages, reporting, survey development and all other functions of automated marketing and I am currently in the process of diving into progressive profiling. I have limited resources for back up, content, and development so I am currently learning HTML as well.
