Research Team Review for Alignable

What is Alignable?

Alignable is a referral and local marketing software meant to help small local businesses in a wide variety of industries expand their networks and promote their brands through referrals. In practice, it functions a lot like a professional social platform for small businesses and has a heavy focus on network growth.

The importance of referrals can’t be underestimated. They represent social proof from happy customers or partners. On Alignable, both the people you connect with and other users in their network can refer your profile to others they think might be interested in what you offer. For small businesses in local communities, this word-of-mouth approval can mean the difference between success and failure.

The Alignable network now has over 7 million users in more than 35,000 communities. This represents significant growth from the 4.5 million users they had back in 2020. This user base expansion also suggests that the importance of referrals for small or local businesses has increased during the COVID-19 pandemic.

How Does Alignable Work?

Alignable uses a simple 3-step process:

  1. Build a profile

  2. Build a network

  3. Exchange referrals

Building a business profile should take less than 10 minutes, according to the vendor. These profiles should be highly personalized, starting with a picture of the owner or a business logo as the profile picture. Under About Us, briefly describe what your business does, what motivates you, and what differentiates you from competitors. This is your chance to explain how you can help customers handle their pain points or meet their needs and wants.

Next, the Our Ideal Customer section gives you the chance to define who you want to be referred to. You can then select the industry, service, or type of professional you want referrals for. Once you’re set up, a built-in dashboard displays the number of impressions, visits, and referrals your profile has in real time.

Alignable is similar to LinkedIn because users create professional profiles and can connect with each other. Businesses, corporate professionals, and entrepreneurs use LinkedIn to increase their marketplace visibility.

On the other hand, Alignable is specifically meant for small and local businesses that are looking to boost leads and sales through referrals. LinkedIn’s audience is much broader, encompassing both individuals and companies of all sizes.

Building a referral network on the platform involves gathering potential customers or professional connections who are willing to refer you to others. Referrals come in the form of recommendations.

Start with who you already know. Alignable allows you to import your contacts from another source. The platform then uses this information to identify which of your contacts are already on the network. You can look for contacts manually using Alignable’s internal search tools.

The search bar lets you look for potential partners or customers outside your current customer list. On your home page, you’ll also find suggestions for other businesses you might want to connect to like you would on Facebook or Instagram. Remember, if you connect to someone, you’re also connecting to their network. The software will occasionally remind your network about the kind of referrals you’re looking for.

If you’re having a special sale or promotion, you can easily use Alignable to share this with your network. Recommending a promotional event or sale works just like recommending a business profile. Referring others also makes it more likely for them to refer you.

How is the Alignable User Interface?

The UI layout for Alignable is clean and straightforward, similar to Facebook or LinkedIn. A news feed in the center of the page allows users to post their thoughts, share linked articles or videos, and see posts from those they’re connected with. This includes shared and liked links from connections. The platform is fairly easy to navigate, and most functionality can be accessed with at most two or three clicks.

Third-Party Integrations for Alignable

Alignable can integrate with customer relationship management (CRM) software to pull customer information from your database. Alignable also lets you link your profile from social networks like Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn.

Support

IIf you have questions or need assistance, the Alignable support channel offers a series of self-help articles, FAQs, troubleshooting guides, and step-by-step explanations of platform features.

For those who want to contact the company, the AI-based Alignabot chat might provide some answers or direct you to relevant resources on the platform. Unfortunately, there’s currently no dial-in option, so if you would rather talk directly to a human, you need to send a direct message or email to the support team. A response should arrive within 24 hours for premium members, while free users may have to wait up to 3 days.

Pricing

As is common with software vendors, Alignable pricing is not publicly available. Independent reviewers have reported prices ranging from $12 to $90 per month depending on monthly or annual billings.

Pricing models for premium plans without the final costs can be found in the help center. Unfortunately, some of this information is a few years old and seems to be outdated compared to recent reports from third-party users.

Alignable does offer a free plan with a profile that’s optimized for SEO. Your connection credits will be capped at 10 per month, meaning you can only connect with up to 10 businesses.

According to vendor information published in April 2018, three paid plans are available: Local, Premium, and Premium Plus. The table below shows what’s included in each plan.

Verified badges increase visibility progressively as you upgrade your plan. You can also create a digital calling card with your basic information and a personal message, as shown below. Cards can be shared with others, and they can be forwarded to anyone on the network.

More recent online reviews suggest that there have been some changes to this pricing model. Alignable still has a free plan, as well as 3 premium plans. These are now called Local, Regional, and National. Connection limits for the free plan and the first two paid plans are unchanged. With the National plan, which has supposedly replaced Premium Plus, you can now make unlimited connections to prospects in the US and Canada.

Users report that coverage limits for each plan are a 2-mile radius of your location for the free plan, 10 miles for the Local plan, and 30 miles for the Regional plan. Keyword searches are exclusive to the Regional and National plans, as is the ability to visualize visitors to your page.

Reported prices for the three premium plans are as follows, depending on whether you pay by the month or in one annual payment:

Use Cases

Alignable is heavily focused on smaller companies, so if your target audience includes enterprise customers, the platform will probably leave you wanting more. Alignable offers separate plans for national and local businesses, so pay close attention to the geographic distribution of your target audience when selecting your plan. Your business may be local, but if you’re in the eCommerce or SaaS business, customer location may not matter that much. In this case, a plan with national coverage may be for you.

Other tools like NextBee are also focused on referrals, though with the goal of promoting customer advocacy or customer loyalty with their current clientele. Google Business Profile is a free program with some similar features, but it actually complements Alignable. This tool allows you to connect with customers and promote your site and profile on search engines.

More direct alternatives to Alignable include referral software products intended for customer acquisition and growth. GrowSurf and Referral Rock, for example, have a heavy focus on referral automation. Other tools, like Influitive, offer all of the above capabilities and more but are prohibitively expensive for small businesses.
