Allscripts is used across the organization within each community based care or skilled nursing location that is needing a physicians signature for approval. Simplifies the documentation process and works well sending Rx. It gets the job done and makes eprescribing easy and efficient to get to the appropriate party while following HiPAA and other her regulations
  • Capacity to store and organize a patient's various documents
  • Ability to customize the software myself
  • The cloud-based system is not very stable
  • Unable to see a patient's insurance card through the chart
Easy lay out and easy to use. This system has all the aspects of EHR like eRx, faxing, internal communications. It’s nice to use while working from home.
It kicks you off, freezes, creates error messages, bounces back prescriptions and when you put in a ticket for customer service nothing is really ever done or the support make it seem like you’re the issue.

Allscripts is used across all providers in all 500 centers in the US.
  • Ease of monitoring reports from all providers for each provider
  • Ease of copying last report into current on
  • Ease of deleting report when starting the wrong type of report
  • Sometimes hard to find functionality due to complicated menus
  • Complication from having too many features
  • Lack of ability to send messages to other providers associated with same patient.
I have been using Allscripts Practice Management at Concentra for about 2.5 years after they acquired US Healthworks. It has been a revelation so much so that I forget what we used at USHW. I know that the system we had was not comprehensive enough that we had to still use paper files and we could not access any other providers' reports. Allscripts allows a group practice to access every report, imaging, and employer communcations for each patient. It's very powerful for a large multi-center medical practice. It would be too complicated for smaller groups.
I'm actually not sure if we call Allscripts support or our own support team with superusers. There never seems to be a problem that can't be fixed right away. The biggest problem you can have is when you start a report when the patient hasn't been checked in. I know how to fix it myself now, but it takes a few minutes with support when you need them to back it out.

  • Looking up patients quickly and efficiently with no error.
  • Making sure our charts for our patients have as much detail as possible while also making sure we are navigating within a timely manner.
  • We make sure that the patient is always there on hand when we are in the program and that the questions are always being answered and put into the program promptly which the program allows for this to be done very well.
  • Sometimes the speed needs some work and it makes it so that it takes more time out of our patients' days.
  • The navigation on some pages is hard for new employees and they seem to struggle with it.
It is great when we are with clients and taking down information from them and we need to be clear and concise with the information. It is less helpful when the patient is not available, but over the phone can work just as well and we can be just as concise. There is just not as much private time with the patient.

  • Easy to combine data and reports.
  • Submit claims for reimbursement.
  • Edit and review patient data in patient accounts.
  • Some of the "canned" reports are wrong. We have reported issues to Allscripts multiple times and they never were interested in fixing the problem.
  • The work and total RVU values that are assigned to each CPT code don't have a reference for the year so we have to keep changing them every year and overwrite the old ones.
  • There is no option to load facility and non-facility values for total RVUs.
It is a good and reliable software. There have been some issues with reporting and security concerns but overall the software is reliable and good as a short-term and midterm investment. The company, however, doesn't understand that they are a data company and I am concerned if they have a future in the long run. I would be very careful to invest in it if you were planning to use this long term.

Although the EHR software industry is still developing, Allscripts has proven to be better than most.
