I use it for monitoring competitive threats and also to understand the forecast of competitor from analyst perspective.
  • Keeping update on the latest information
  • Analyst and KoL commentaries
  • Forecast on sales
  • To include competitors from emerging market like China and Russia
Well suited for Broker reports, latest information and clinical trials
Not suited for China and Russia specific updates. I raised a request once to include it but I got a reply that it can not be done as of now

I use AlphaSense to get up to speed on a particular business or industry. I typically read expert call transcripts, broker reports, and industry overviews as part of our investment process. It is helpful to quickly search across a compendium of documents and learn about a particular sector we are looking to invest in.
  • Easy search functionality
  • Call transcripts
  • Large amount of data sources
  • Ease of use of the platform, there are many different features
  • Onboarding more data sources
AlphaSense is super useful when trying to find information about a particular business and the industry it operates in. It pulls from unique data sets and is fairly comprehensive for conducting market research.

My position as a research analyst involves me analyzing current and upcoming events revolved around new and upcoming drugs in development. The coverage of my scope is extremely broad, often involving company milestones including regulatory events, clinical trial updates and data release. As such, finding a suitable search platform that allows us to narrow and filter specific news releases is invaluable. AlphaSense has been vital in my day-to-day work in this way. I am able to use broad and combination searches, filter date ranges, and select press releases only submitted by the owning companies. For the 3 years I have been using AlphaSense, it has proven to be a thorough and accurate search engine for me, one where I have very rarely had to carry out additional research to find what I am looking for. Making sure our database contains the best information not only makes our product reliable, but also keep customers happy and retention high.
  • Filter news; Able to narrow down via independent and combination searches, dates and company releases.
  • Highlights keywords in sentences where it is mentioned - saves a lot of time and hassle.
  • Thorough and accurate - very rarely have to carry out additional independent research to find information.
  • Very user friendly and easy to use.
  • Highly supportive team to help guide you on the functions of AlphaSense. The team always checks-in from time to time to see if they can help you and take any feedback for improvement.
  • I have not needed to use the full scope of AlphaSense so cannot comment on the full platform. I carry out basic, but in-depth research which AlphaSense fulfils fully. The only improvement I would like made is for searches to contain the URL or link to where AlphaSense found the information. At the moment I find the required information on AlphaSense, then have to find the source. This is very straight forward but it will save a few minutes per search which adds up over time.
I often have to carry out research on specific pharmaceutical drugs in development. This involves me carrying out basic, but in-depth research. For the most part, I use reliable sources such as press releases and earnings which AlphaSense is great at picking up. For example if I wanted to search for a press release involving 'Drug XYZ' and a supposed 'FDA meeting', I would search 'Drug XYZ' AND 'FDA meeting'. AlphaSense will then pick up all the related information and highlight where the two keywords are mentioned in the text. If I am not happy with the search, I can then filter press releases by companies. Another great thing is that AlphaSense will pick up 'Drug XYZ', and also carry out searches on its other known names. The only times (very rare) I have found information outside of AlphaSense it through pictures, eg. company pipelines, and social media such as facebook.

Business problems and scope:
  • Market intelligence: what are our competitors doing?
  • Investor relations: how are we performing relative to peer companies and segments?

We use AlphaSense to:
  • Track our competitors
  • Easily comb through publicly traded companies' earnings calls and investor presentations for topics, trends, and sentiment
  • Benchmark our company's performance to our peers
  • Find small bits of information about competitors, customers, and prospects, including their appearance in the news and in analyst briefs
  • Detect trends and big-picture market problems by industry
  • Serving as a one-stop-shop for financial filings, earnings calls, investor presentations, etc.
  • Auto-summarization of earnings calls
  • Fuzzy matching on search terms (e.g., searching on "R&D" captures all sorts of items related to product development and innovation)
  • Apples-to-apples comparisons between publicly traded companies' metrics
  • Email alert digests (e.g., weekly round-up of M&A activity in our segment)
  • Private company data
  • Collaboration with colleagues who don't have an AlphaSense seat
  • Auto-identifying (and then editing) the peer set of companies that any given company is benchmarked against
Well suited:
  • For small, internal teams tracking their own company, their competitors and peers, and the market as a whole
  • Researching and tracking publicly traded companies
  • Covering trends across entire industries

Less appropriate:
  • For collaborating with or pushing materials to large groups of colleagues (i.e., colleagues without licenses)
  • Hosting and distributing your own, internally written competitive enablement content (e.g., sales battlecards)
  • Covering small, private companies

We use AlphaSense to search public company filings, transcripts and investment research in one place. AlphaSense's search is quick and powerful, and picks up on words w/ multiple common meanings (e.g., searching for "leverage" will return results for "debt"). In my experience, the keyword search returns hits more quickly and with better accuracy than other alternatives I've used in the past. We also use email notifications for certain keywords and new filings and content hitting the site.
  • Search is flexible and powerful
  • Can search multiple source types, companies and industries simultaneously
  • Notifications and watchlist setup is easy
  • Support has been solid
  • I occasionally see keywords in filings that aren't picked up in my searches
  • Transcription could be faster
  • Notification templates could be helpful
AlphaSense is helpful when looking for specific content across many types of filings or research sources. Can think of the tool as a smart Google search across a set of well-defined sources. If you know what you are looking for, the tool is great. If you are hoping to get broad industry research delivered to you without knowing what you're trying to find, I would look elsewhere.

AlphaSense is my go-to platform for anything related to research, especially regulatory filings, transcripts, company presentations, sell-side research. Alert feature is also great. Document search is super fast and comprehensive.
  • Document search
  • Transcripts
  • Sell-side research
  • Alert
  • I appreciate help chat feature but maybe a section that shows some main features? Maybe this already exists....
  • For phone app, I want to highlight
  • In my experience, Phone app sometimes has bugs, like company disappears from field when i delete key words in search box
SEC documents
clinicaltrials alert
key word alert
sell-side notes
transcripts
highlight / comments feature
exporting tables

I use AlphaSense on a daily/weekly basis for up to date news, but more importantly for 3rd party research on the competitive landscape. As part of Collins Aerospace's M&A team, I use the tool to find potential acquisition targets as well as understand how my competitors are acquiring and divesting within the global aerospace and defense market. From a CI perspective, I use AlphaSense to get source data (press releases, SEC filings, etc) as well as 3rd party perspectives.
  • One screen for all major information
  • Fast and complete access to data
  • Repeatable workflows
  • Make it easier to remove specific datasets from my results - there are 1-2 sources that are consistently useless
  • It would be interesting to be able to select several sections of different reports and have the tool produce a powerpoint deck
  • I'd like to select an analysis and automatically pull the prior 2-3 years of related data. If John Doe from XYZ Equity Bank said "ABC Co is great" I'd like to know what he said last year, and the year before and what changed.
The tool enables users to quickly find competitive information and develop acquisition target lists. For less well structured searches, for example where I'm not 100% sure what I'm looking for, often the results are too broad but with a few iterations of removing sources and refining my search criteria, this is overcome.

I use it to run due diligence on companies in the space. Scope is rather broad.
  • Highlight keywords in transcripts
  • Comprehensive data sources
  • Find obscure company documents
  • Search hits for multiple keywords or phrases (google search seems to be more effective for these)
Well suited for finding sources or quotes from company management in event transcripts
Less appropriate for longer keyword or phrase searches

I don't want to go into detail on how we use AlphaSense at Hussmann because of the competitive nature of our industry. But we use all of the features that AlphaSense currently has made available and we have no complaints whatsoever. AlphaSense is more than a platform, it's become a partnership and we value our relationship with AlphaSense tremendously.
  • Find intelligence
  • Provide a very wide net of accessible information
  • Sensitivity analytics around topics we focus on
  • Working with us as a partner not a meal ticket
  • Targeted emails with information that I care about
  • Better information on private companies
I have used intelligence platforms like AlphaSense's for many years and as a new kid on the block, they have started from a foundation of what works and has made the entire process practically effortless. We have set up pertinent dashboards and watchlists and have a very well defined stream of intelligence coming in through AlphaSense's platform. The text analytics embedded in the platform is fantastic as is the ability to grab financial data for multiple companies and multiple years or quarters. Suffice it to say, AlphaSense's in-platform analytical features are very useful and a welcome addition to this type of service.

We are very happy with not only the platform's access to information and it's ability to help us analyze it, but we work closely with the AlphaSense team throughout the year and they are a pleasure to work with. Definitely the kind of partner that Hussmann Corp. values.

In my position, I locate internal change signals at companies day-to-day to shorten my clients sales cycles.

The scope of my use case includes hundreds of accounts that I typically research for my clients. Back in November 2022 we started looking at AlphaSense to alleviate my workload that included several different services that are direct competitors. Those sources have various datapoints that are useful-, but lacked a thorough output of news and research. Once we made a decision to go with AlphaSense I've been able to keep up with my accounts from a single source, which smoothed over my encumbered work cadence!

AlphaSense has been an immensely supportive tool in making my job efficient. On top of the information thats readily available, I'm able to receive notifications on my phone in regard to those change signals coming in. New features seem to be steady and I've been enjoying the LLM integration they recently implemented to summarize quarterly call transcripts!
  • Provide net new signals regarding news, workforce changes and financials
  • Act as a single source of truth
  • Divide signals into particular sections that provide ease-of-use
  • Contacts
  • More research private companies - if possible
  • Use the AI/LLM integration to provide a short 'Here's what's going on' within the companies overview page.
Scraping news and providing public change signals to my clients has been the scenario that AlphaSense has helped me the most. I'm able to research 100+ accounts in a business day, that's great!

The only scenario where AlphaSense does not help me is locating buyers/contacts, but I have good Ol' Linkedin for that, so it does not affect my opinion of the service in the slightest.

AlphaSesne has been invaluable to me and my team as we use it to pull research documents with ease. The preview feature of each page is super helpful, especially when you combine it with key word search which shows you what documents contain that word and where in the document its located. This allows my team to save a lot of time as we are not scrolling through hundreds of pages trying to find what we are looking for.
  • Smart Summaries for Earnings Transcripts
  • Sending updates on companies you follow
  • Having a detailed and informative dashboard
  • Sorting brokers chronologically after sorting by broker in research docs
Well suited for pulling NAV breakdowns for companies using research reports

I use AlphaSense for technology research, competitive insights, and reviewing earnings calls/analyst sentiment. If I have a new technology I want to understand better or want to explore how others are using a specific technology, I use AlphaSense's research and also their customer service to find insightful articles and analyst research. For earnings calls, I use the transcripts and analyst reports as well to understand how the call was received and what topics are important for competitors and alliance partners. I've also used research from AlphaSense to build business cases around new product development and partnership opportunities.
  • Well-organized research and results makes searching large amounts of data easy to handle! The filters are especially easy to use and go as broad or as specific as you want.
  • AlphaSense's customer service and research assistants are always helpful and quick to respond. If I reach out through live chat, they will work through what I'm trying to find and even follow up after the fact to make sure I got everything I need.
  • AlphaSense's daily news feed is easy to set up and makes keeping up to date easier. I have several different news feeds that are sent straight to my email for me. With constantly evolving technologies and with competitor insights, this is extremely valuable!
  • AlphaSense has started to integrate AI insights and analyst sentiment (emotion ratings). While these features will be very valuable in the future, they are still in the early stages currently and the results aren't always 100% how I interpret the materials based on my experience.
  • Like any research database, AlphaSense doesn't have access to 100% of research in the world. I've run into some topics/private companies that unfortunately have very little research. The more research they can add, the better, but this is a limitation for all databases.
  • Limited functionality on financial outputs. While you can pull these numbers from different research databases, databases like Capital IQ/Market Intelligence provide these numbers in a much easier to use format.
AlphaSense is an amazing research database in my opinion. The combination of easy to use filters (both for key words and for sources) makes finding the materials I'm looking for easy! As a strategist, this tool is my favorite research tool for analysis. If you are struggling to find what you need, their customer service and research assistants are great to work with and will work with you to find what you need. I've always been impressed by their customer service and their user interface.

On the other side, the financial number access (such as earnings $$ for revenue, OPEX, CAPEX, etc.) aren't as strong here. If you are solely looking for the numbers, not the analysis or research, I would recommend using a different tool like Capital IQ.

I use Alphasense as a "one stop shop" information platform for conducting desk research, intelligence gathering and setting up alerts/dashboards for tracking and analysing news and analysis around competitors in the pharmaceutical industry. What I like about Alphasense is the user interface and scope of coverage, as well as the integration of different sources of data. My role necessitates piecing together a full picture from individual parts - often from very different sources, and can be very time consuming. Alphasense speeds this process up and allows you to identify relevant sources with much greater ease vs unassisted research. The alert system is also high quality and provides a robust feed straight to my inbox.
  • Intuitive and well designed user interface with great search and filter capabilities
  • Aggregating a range of data sources and research, and connecting them with a strong taxonomy
  • Professional, genuinely helpful and non-pushy customer support
  • The "Expert Calls" library is a great idea, would love to see more content added with greater frequency
  • Integration of even more sources - dedicated drug database platforms for example. Anything which could simplify my workflow and make me look to fewer tools would be great.
  • Additional integration or automation capabilities - a Teams app for quickly sharing snippets of information (from public sources) or ways to generate custom reports would be great.
I find Alphasense excels at user experience - an area where many competitor services and platforms fall short. Easy and enjoyable to use without compromising on functionality.

I'd recommend Alphasense to any colleague or peer with an Intelligence/Insights role which involves significant desk research and a need to keep tabs on a full range of public sources and expert commentary.

AlphaSense is a great tool for research. We use it to do qualitative research on companies by using equity research, press releases, company filings, etc. The developments in the search tool are really helpful.
  • Search keywords
  • Extract equity research reports
  • Preliminary categorization of positive and negative sentiments in a quote
  • Advanced categorization of positive and negative sentiments
  • Gathering similar data sets from different sources / reports for a same industry / company
  • Industry and macroeconomic research
AlphaSense is well suited in doing research on a company using equity research and press releases.
It is less appropriate for conducting industry / market research

Use AlphaSense to do general research on industry and companies. Find the product is useful to find financial-related information and general trends.
  • Good at aggregating relevant data
  • Has a good database of information
  • Good search by keywords function
  • Wish the aftermarket research wasn't paid by page
  • Search function is good but could be a bit more intuitive when doing precise searches
Overall, good product for doing quick reviews on new companies / industries. Good alternative to other more expensive platforms. Not really a product I would use as my only research tool. Not really the tool I would use to get financial info on multiple companies at the same time or trying to screen for companies.

Earnings sentiment analysis with Alphasense has let me swiftly analyse both positive and negative management commentary and assess the overall trend. In addition to using Alphasense for Sec filing, news portals, and research publications, I have also accessed brokers' reports using the platform.

  • To fetch or run the query through excel built models.
  • More accurate ML for search queries to filter the best results.

I use AlphaSense for competitive research and keep track of current happenings in our industry. The product makes it easy for me to track multiple competitor news from multiple sources within a single platform that is AI based and smart enough to actually search more than what I ask for. Saves a ton of my time!
  • Smart summaries
  • Search for words that could mean the same as the search words
  • Patent filing news
  • Would be nice to have social media as news sources.
  • Have more technical analyst reports and not just limited to financial reports.
  • Email alerts could have a rating option to rate it's usefulness/accuracy
AlphaSense is more appropriate for financial analyst and those involved in investments. It is less technical oriented. Having the Patent filing feature is handy to keep track of companies filing patents. I use it a lot for summaries by financial analysts after trade shows. The AlphaSense team does a great job of helping us understand the platform through regular follow up calls.

We use AlphaSense as a search engine in our equity research. By being able to specify the company in question, the sources (public and private) which the search engine should utilize, and selected keywords for the search, AlphaSense is able to compile a highly relevant list of documents. The UI also facilitates quick browsing through the relevant documents. The tool saves us time on searching for documents, and thanks to the transparent input criteria, we gain confidence regarding what information is or is not available.
  • General search engine for financial documents
  • Quick browsing between documents
  • Search results with relevant synonyms
  • AI summary gives misleading information
  • Limiting search by quantitative data is lacking
  • Investor presentation subcategory is too broad
Well suited for tackling the problem of financial document overload. Likely to find the most relevant documents, which allows the user to manually review the documents most likely to answer the question at hand. The AI summary feature is at this stage too unreliable for meaningful use at this time.

I use AlphaSense primarily to find statistics or key items in equity research. Most common use cases include peak sales of a specific drug, key competitors, and recent data readouts. It is super helpful when putting together market or competitive landscape overviews, which I have to do frequently (1-2x per week).
  • Find peak sales of specific drug
  • Find key competitors
  • Find overall market size of certain diseases
  • It could be better at filtering out unnecessary reports
  • It's sometimes slow at loading documents
AlphaSense is well suited when I'm looking for very specific statistics or data points such as peak sales or market size. It is less appropriate when my search is a little more vague such as "What's the overall street view of this data readout?" I have to know the specific company I'm interested in otherwise the filter is too broad.

AlphaSense is used as an aggregator of information pertaining to the portfolio companies we cover. Information of interest primarily consists of news, investment research, and earnings publications/transcripts. We have created dashboards for different sets of companies and check them on a daily basis for updated information. We have also set up automated alerts for companies we are actively looking at.
  • Makes it easy to search investment research and earnings transcripts
  • Provides summaries of earnings calls
  • Provides customization options to tailor dashboards
  • Sentiment and summary analysis should be available for more types of documents
  • News sources exclude many popular publishers and include some automated news source by default which do not provide any value -- often see repeat stories drowning out other information
  • Updating search criteria and dashboards is tedious -- there is no easy way to exclude news sources you don't want to see throughout the application
  • UI/UX could use some improvement; A bit clunky overall and some less than stellar design choices -- i.e., no way to actually look at a list of documents you've booked mark (get lumped in with anything you've ever highlighted), note taking feature needs an overhaul
Well suited for people who cover specific companies or topics where there is regular news and earnings updates. Prefer AlphaSense to Cap IQ, though may not be necessary if you have Bloomberg.

Think value is limited if you intend to use it for research only -- occasionally you find some good content, but often not of much help for private companies.

If you have the budget for transcripts, it does improve the experience, but is not meaningfully different than Third Bridge or Tegus in terms of content (just easier to search).

I use AlphaSense to explore trends in the market and my industry which helps to guide the research I'll write. I also use it to see what thought leaders in my own and other industries are saying about these trends so I can keep informed. The data we get from AlphaSense enables us to produce pertinent research which we know will be impactful for our readers.
  • AlphaSense makes it easy to find specific terms within a large document
  • AlphaSense makes it easy to learn and utilize Boolean search methodology
  • AlphaSense provides many different sources to explore
  • I'd like to see more synthesized reports for specific topic areas
  • More insight to conferences and inclusion of conference content
AlphaSense is well-suited to get a read on specific technologies or topics. This can be done through a wide or narrow search and AlphaSense is good at allowing you to filter down to companies, keywords, and sources you want to see for specific searches. AlphaSense will not however, tell you what is trending in a specific market overall and does not produce synthesized trend/analyst reports themselves.

AS helps us better than Bloomberg. The document search finder plus the expert call network has been very valuable for us deepening our research and finding good investment ideas. Keyword searches sound simple, but can be very tough to actually do successfully with precision. AS has features that help us here.
  • Expert call networks are additive
  • Hot/cold visual features are helpful
  • Customer engagement is fast and reliable
  • Cost can be a barrier for many teams at our firm
  • More transparency on expert call bios, backgrounds, etc
  • Clinical data for healthcare — scan documents and highlight what matters, allow us to not have to sift through
AS has saved us countless time. My boss, our portfolio manager was initially resistant but saw how he could look through hundreds of sell side reports, cut to what mattered and get up to speed on a topic way faster than email. It is like a bulletin board for investment ideas. We’ve also used AS to help our interns learn and contribute to our team quicker.
