What is Amazon Alexa for Business?

Alexa for Business is a service that enables organizations and employees to use Alexa to get more work done. With Alexa for Business, employees can use Alexa as their intelligent assistant to be more productive in meeting rooms, at their desks, and with Alexa devices. IT and facilities managers can also use Alexa for Business to measure and increase the utilization of the existing meeting rooms in their workplace.

Workspace use cases:
  • Alexa for Business lets employees start conference calls using voice commands. Employees don’t need to use remote controls and manually dial-in to meetings. Employees can just say “Alexa, join the meeting” to start their online meeting.
  • Alexa for Business supports employee productivity throughout the day at work, at home or on the go. They can then ask Alexa to join online meetings, schedule or re-schedule calendar meeting events, inform meeting participants if they are running late or get work briefings to prepare for their work day, etc.
  • Voice offers a way to access business applications. With Alexa for Business, IT teams can build custom skills that add a voice interface to applications such as Salesforce, ServiceNow, or custom apps and services. IT teams can provide personalized voice experiences that redefine the way employees get work done. Custom skills can be selectively enabled in conference rooms or for employees to use on their personal devices.

Alexa for Business is a pay-as-you-go service. There are no up-front fees, and no long term commitments. Alexa for Business charges are based on the number of shared devices you register, and the number of users enrolled in an organization’s account. Shared devices are managed centrally by Alexa for Business, and anyone in the organization can use them. Enrolled users join their personal Alexa account with an Alexa for Business account, allowing them to use the Alexa features and skills they’ve already enabled for personal use, and the skills they need for work, on any of the personal devices in their account.

Alexa for Business is a service that allows us to increase our productivity. Our team can use Alexa as a smart assistant to be more productive in meeting rooms, at their desks, and even with the Alexa devices we already use at home. We also learned to measure and increase the use of existing meeting rooms. In the current moment of the pandemic, we have better organized the workspace.
  • Communication between people on the team.
  • Interactive personal assistant.
  • Better workspace management.
  • Could have a feature for group chats.
  • Alexa has some problems hearing nearby voices.
  • Website suggestions are irrelevant sometimes (should have user evaluation functionality for the answer, improving accuracy).
Virtual assistants at work are still new features and have a lot to improve.
The more features we have, the more we want new features.
In small environments we have "noise" between virtual assistants, making use inappropriate.
But in more distributed environments it is very good.
We still have a lot to learn (both, us and our Alexas).
  • Virtual stick notes.
  • Meeting schedules and alarms.
  • Possibility of better productivity and team communication.
  • Difficulties with technology integration.
  • Identify all possible uses.
  • We still lost a lot of time making new settings.

We looked at two other alternatives: Google Nest and Apple. But Alexa already has popular devices that many people on the team already had in their homes. And it would be easier to integrate into the professional environment.
The cost of Amazon products is also much lower, which makes the product more competitive.
