Apache CouchDB is an HTTP + JSON document database with Map Reduce views and bi-directional replication. The Couch Replication Protocol is implemented in a variety of projects and products that span computing environments from globally distributed server-clusters, over mobile phones to web browsers.
Companies can't remove reviews or game the system. Here's why
- REST support (native).
- Binary compression of JSON data structures
- Web-oriented and modern
- Apache license
- Document structured
- Java-script based and programmable via JS
As a highly distributed database system, CouchDB naturally has strong high availability with traffic load-balancing capability. It is also easy to scale and replicate data in a cluster for redundancy. However, there is still some room for query performance improvement in the future.
CouchDB has no renewals because it's free, and I have no reason to stop using it.
Will continue to use while it makes sense. Makes a lot of sense to us right now.
Because our current solution S3 is working great and CouchDB was a nightmare. The worst is that at first, it seemed fine until we filled it with tons of data and then started to create views and actually delete.
We're stuck with it by now - an upgrade to a different NoSQL or SQL database solution will be a MAJOR effort.
On my current project, there isn't a need for the problem set that couchDB solves but if in the future there is, then I'll surely renew my interest/use of CouchDB.
couchdb is basic, there are options like mango query and https that must be included as built in but [are] not yet.
