I use Atera on a daily basis, maintaining 64 laptops, desktop computers and servers. I work remotely, and 90% of the devices I administer are remote, as well. I have physical, virtual and cloud-based servers I maintain, and keep all executive, corporate, and boots on the ground employees' devices working reliably.
  • You pay for one Admin Seat. With that you can maintain an unlimited number of devices.
  • Atera notifies me of any issues with specific devices promptly.
  • Patch updates can be pushed easily, keeping devices up to date.
  • Integration and adding devices is very easy and efficient.
  • Simplify setup of parameters for notification. Currently, it is a cafeteria plan. pick and choose from a host of them. I would rather have the option to choose "don't bug me" or "fill my inbox with alerts" and a few in between choices.
  • In my opinion, quietly update and improve. In my opinion, don't act like every month is a WOW! update.
  • Support for MDM, setup and administration of iOS devices. In my experience, I'm using a separate service now, and not satisfied with the results. I believe this is in the works but not launched yet. I would be willing to guinea pig for them. For every laptop we have out there, using Atera, we have iPads and iPhones as well.
Atera is great for small to medium business IT gurus. It allows a single user a license to administer an unlimited number of devices. PC? Mac? Server? No problem. I work from home, using a 2011 MacBook Pro, and administer over 60 devices, from aging 2012 Windows servers, Azure virtual servers, and PC laptops from ancient to cutting edge. Atera lets me do all that from my Mac. I'm also a Creative Director, and have been doing graphic design since the 80's, and fill that role for my company as well. Paying for one admin seat rather than per device Managed is, hands down, my driving factor for chosing Atera. Next is the control I have to log in to any pc or server we own, and diagnose and fix issues. Something I haven't done a lot with, but am exploring more now, is running scripts across the board, which is another handy tool for installation, removal, updates, etc. Without Atera, my job would be very difficult. I honestly cannot think of a scenario where it is less appropriate, unless the intent is to also administer iOS devices with the same tool. I believe they are working on adding that functionality, and when they do, I'm going to be all over it.

  • Deploying devices is faster.
  • Diagnosing and repair of devices is more efficient.
  • Alerts provide focus to "problem child" devices.
  • ROI is excellent.
Utilizing Atera along with Splashtop gives me the ability to log in to devices and control them remotely, or have end users show me what is going on. We use Microsoft Teams and can share screens and grant access to control, but Teams uses an inordinate amount of data to share what's going on. Working remotely from a cellular connection with data limits can make that solution untenable. Atera uses a small fraction of the data, is more efficient, and has created more time for me to handle other responsibilities.
Honestly, I don't use the billing portion, or reporting. I use Atera for one company. The other tools are available to IT providers who have multiple clients, and that is great. If I were to choose to set up shop for myself as an IT consultant today, you can bet I would buy a new laptop first, then Atera would be my second purchase of the day.
  • Cybereason Managed Detection & Response (MDR)
Before installing Atera, we were using a third party to assist us with administration of devices, protection, etc. The cost was exorbitant, and the service was deplorable. What I received was gobbledy-gook and dozens of fancy graphs. brain overload. TMI. When I described to them the scenario I was working in, They actually recommended Atera. That is the only actionable and worthwhile bit of information I received from them.

One man show.
  • Administer all computers and servers
  • Patch software and firmware updates
  • Alerts for device issues
  • I have a backup that must be downloaded weekly. It is very large. Since I use a metered internet connection, that is untenable. With Atera, although I work from home, I can log into a "mule" computer at headquarters, and perform the backup, download and upload all remotely, and use hardly any of my data allowance to do so.
  • Assist with Board Presentation Powerpoint issues three states away.
  • diagnose network and printer issues in a LAN by logging into a device on that network, and report on or update configurations from home.
  • Repair an employee's device, even when I am vacationing in Florida on the beach.
  • Automate after business hours updates.
  • Push branding updates so computer backgrounds use new design.
  • Design a print job at home for an event, push the file to the hard drive of a computer at HQ, and print it on the corporate printer before the meeting.
  • If Atera incorporates MDM for iOS devices, I would roll that oversight in from a different solution.
  • Migration from legacy hardware content to cloud-based Azure services.
  • Oversight and reporting of more devices, and create a lifecycle for refurbishment or retirement of aging hardware.
After using it for a few years now, I wouldn't be without it, unless they change the structure and begin charging per device Managed, or the cost becomes prohibitive for small business.

Atera has been a great tool to use in our environment. We have used Atera to help manage our fleet of Windows PCs, Servers, Printers, and other misc devices. Due to recent event of pressing need to have compliance of any sort in your back pocket Atera has saved me so much time in gathering data related to our end devices. On the topic of end devices Atera has allowed me to provide support from anywhere using the integrated Splashtop feature which honestly saves us money by avoiding paying for a remote connect service. If an MSP were to use this software I can see how integrating customers into the management suite would provide great oversight.

  • Software Inventory details
  • Better layout for ticketing system
For asset management and IT management perspective Atera has saved me a lot of effort and extra work. I would like to see better ticket center layout for responses. I do have a major recommendation for tracking TPM 2.0 to better direct efforts for upgrading PCs to Windows 11. Otherwise I have no issues using Atera at this time.

This might be more related to MSPs as we do not use Atera in this manor.
Atera was purchased before my tenure but I haven't had the need to look at other competing platforms.

Atera is used for MSP services. It is a fantastic product. I really have not had any issues with it in three years. The remote access to clients through Atera is fast and reliable. It is the feature I use most. The ability to use scripting to create automated tasks really helps. They have a library of hundreds of scripts you can use as examples or just to plain use. Notifications are very adjustable. Thresholds for the notifications are easily changed as well. I have contacted Atera and even had a Zoom meeting with them in Israel. They are very nice. Very responsive. I do recommend this product highly. Before Atera I used Zenith product, Solar Winds and many others. Atera is by far, better.
  • Remote access for technicians.
  • Remote access for home users.
  • Automation of tasks.
  • Dashboard is simple to read with a good amount of information on it.
  • I would say custom reporting.
  • Mobile app is difficult to use effectively on a screen smaller than 10.1"
I use Atera for small businesses. between 2 and 50 workstations and a handful of servers. This really is the sweet spot. You don't get inundated with tickets if setup properly. The choices of add on products like anti-virus give a complete package for the client that is affordable.

  • Workstation automation for maintenance has been great. A real selling feature.
  • The product combined with a anti-virus add-on is a great value to clients.
I feel like I have a good grasp on the status of my clients all the time. When they complain about Internet dropouts, I put availability monitoring on the client workstation or server and in a few days you have a graph you can show them of uptime. That has been perceived by clients as a great service.
I only use Atera for MSP services. I don't use the billing nor invoices.
I have used, The Zenith product (Continuum), Solar Winds, GFI and Level Platforms. Continuum was a good product but no longer exists.

We migrated from another MSP product over a year ago now and have not looked back. Atera's licensing is extremely straightforward and they are regularly adding features almost monthly.
  • Integration with Webroot
  • Monitoring SNMP devices
  • Ease of use/interface
  • While the base level reporting is quite good. The better reports are locked behind higher plans
If you have a small to medium-size MSP, this tool should be on your evaluation list

  • Its cut down on costs from our previous product.
Its quite slow opening up multiple tabs. Working within the same tab is fine
It has allowed us to integrate Webroot AV into the platform and have our billing come from the same source.
  • N-able N-central (formerly Solarwinds N-Central)
N-central had more features but was way more expensive to run. The features that N-central have over Atera were ones we were not using anyway.
It was easy to set up but took some time to get it working originally. I wish the SNMP templates were in the product when we purchased it, as it would have cut hours off our onboarding of clients.

We have our techs using Atera. It is our main RMM tool--we push Windows and some third-party updates, use remote PowerShell, remote control with Splashtop, package installs via Chocolatey, a shared script library, and more. We use the built-in help desk and it gets us by but it would be nice to have some other features. We love the Splashtop integration; we even purchased a separate SOS license and can now use it from the dashboard.
  • Pricing--pay per tech, not by agent
  • Remote control with Splashtop integration
  • Shared script library updated by other users
  • Chocolatey integration for installing apps, and you can make packages for group installs
  • File transfer without needing to interrupt the user
  • Have backup building options with Acronis
  • Built-in AV with Bitdefender, Webroot
  • Helpdesk needs more features, like field selections
  • AD and Exchange integrations would be nice
  • HyperV and VMware support to manage VMs remotely
Atera excels for a solo shop or a small team trying to manage a large number of machines at the right price. No matter how many machines you want to manage, the price is the same each month. The RMM features are the bread and butter of the product but the PSA side is slowly catching up. Great when you have those customers who "don't want to pay each month" but still call you each month needing help--you can install an agent and not be charged.

  • Cost effective for the amount of techs vs managed computers
  • Learning curve is tiny, which saved a lot of training time
  • Setting up and onboarding a new customer has been made detailed but quick, saving us time and money
We started with Pulseway and loved the features but quickly realized the cost was going to be more than we could invest. Atera is billed on a per-tech and not a per-device basis. This is much more cost effective for our model and saves a lot of money. Also, with the Splashtop integration, we are able to use the remote access on not just Windows, like Pulseway, but also Mac and Linux. Pulseway has just recently released an HTML5 remote session but it is still nowhere close to the one integrated to Atera. Atera also has the PSA side included in the price, unlike Pulseway's add-on price, and Atera includes a help desk.
The easy of use and simple approach to adding a customer has helped in streamlining our onboarding process and saved our tech valuable time. We are able to set up specific alerts per client, making important alerts into a ticket automatically or manually, schedule a script to run to solve the problem, close the ticket, and bill the customer--all without the tech clicking a mouse.
We use the Atera RMM platform multiple times a day for things like remote controlling desktops, running scripts, monitoring devices, and more. Having the PSA attached to the platform is useful in that we do not need to go to another portal to get customer data, quotes, billing, or tickets.
7
Our tech, engineer, and marketing all use Atera. We are working on migrating our sales team--inside and outside--to move over along with the rest of the marketing team. This allows us to have a single resource to view all of our customer data without having to bounce around between many different softwares.
4
The help desk is the biggest use, along with patching and installing software. We manage about 18 customers at the moment and would be lost without it. Being a mostly break-fix, project based company, we usually can't bill the customer for the yearly cost of an RMM tool on all we manage, so having the Atera billing model fits us best. Moving the sales team over is the next task.
  • Remote support
  • Patching
  • Tickets
  • Device and server monitoring
  • Remote software installation/removal
  • Scripting
  • Script onboarding processes
  • Creating problem-solution resolution without tech intervention
  • Monitoring network devices
  • Scheduling Tickets/ Quote alerts
  • Engaging the PSA side of the app
  • Reselling the app
As of right now, we have found nothing that can offer as many features as Atera does along with the affordability. They are doing monthly releases each month and not just making small changes (shared scripting library, chocolatey support, Install packages, Splashtop SOS support, Scheduled tickets to name a few). The uptimes are great and accessibility to the dashboard has yet to be limited. We are a happy customer and bordering on fanboy status now.
Yes
TeamViewer- Many many more features and still has a great remote tool. The ability to add as many agents we need without any extra charge. Also cheaper than just TeamViewer alone.

Pulseway - Pricing was a big factor but also has a lot more flexibility and features that we didn't get with Pulseway.
  • Price
  • Product Features
  • Product Usability
Can't speak enough about the Pricing model and the ability to add agents as needed without any new charges. This has given our team a lot of flexibility and helped us sign new customers by installing the agent (with permission) and then running reports at the end of the month to so the customer our value all with no extra cost to our company. If they don't sign we uninstall and walk away.
I would recommend testing 1 product at a time and not trying to do 3-4. Maybe 2 at a time would be manageable and you could spend the time needed to give a good test. We almost chose a different product because we did not do a good job testing the software.
