Used by the whole organization to support outside clients.
  • Follow up with issues and working to resolve satisfactorily.
  • Identify Chat feature. I didn't know about it until talking with Isaac.
UPDATED:
After the review, I was contacted to discuss the issues. We had a good, productive discussion and plan to resolve issues.

My experience has shown they do not care about their customers, this is how I came to this conclusion:
  1. It takes them weeks (occasionally days) to acknowledge, respond/reply to requests (support or other).
  2. They do not respond to billing support requests. They haven't/don't fix billing errors.
  3. Blocking account login, when not appropriate.
  4. Sluggish/slow access, persistent lack of access for remote support option.
  5. Incorrect disabling of access.

  • After resolving issues, Atera has had a positive impact on my business.
Assessing....
Everything has been overshadowed by Atera's Negative qualities.
Windows Server, Microsoft 365 (formerly Office 365), Microsoft Azure Active Directory, Microsoft SQL Server, Microsoft Exchange, Hyper-V, Microsoft Network Monitor (Discontinued), Acronis True Image, NordVPN Teams, Ubiquiti Networks UniFi, Webroot Business Endpoint Protection, Malwarebytes, CS SoftDent Software, ChiroTouch, Carbonite Endpoint, OneDrive, MS SharePoint, Splashtop Remote Support, TeamViewer, Zoho Assist, Zoho Desk, Microsoft Remote Desktop Connection Manager (RDCMan), Remote Desktop Manager, AnyDesk, SonicWall TZ, NETGEAR Ethernet Switches, NETGEAR ProSafe Managed Switches, 3Com Baseline Switches (Discontinued)
I would have given them a ZERO, but that wasn't offered.

Updated rating since communications with Atera over the past month has been very good.
I don't [recommend] spending any money with them. I can't trust they will bill accurately, respond appropriately or at all, successfully resolve any issue, allow access to the service.
No
Never.

We have used Atera within our IT department as a monitoring and ticketing system. The implementation was fast enough as the system does not require hardware resources as it is offered online and opens directly from the browser. After introducing this system, we made very detailed reports on our daily work which was not previously tracked.
  • Real-time alert about IT infrastructure hardware resources.
  • Ability to introduce customized scripts to be able to perform various scheduled IT processes.
  • Very useful reporting for the job evaluation of the IT team.
  • Synchronization with Active Directory would be very useful.
  • The ability to group PCs by operating system or by model for more effective management.
  • More security tools regarding the remote connection to the PC, the option to accept the connection by the customer is missing.
I would say that for companies that have a small IT team and that do not exceed a staff of 100 users, it is a system that justifies the investment - practical, and easy to use and implement. On the other hand, I don't see it very appropriate for big companies.

  • It helped us understand the most frequent problems that directly affect our company's retail activities.
  • The backup system has guaranteed us a continuity of activities without interruption.
We evaluated several ticketing systems, however, the monitoring option missing, the dashboards summarized the remote connection and many other tools that Atera currently offers.
It has many options in a single platform I would say that this is the highest advantage, it still remains to be developed in making it compatible with the systems mentioned above such as Active Directory. For the rest, it is completely effective in managing a medium IT infrastructure.

We use Atera to support manufacturers, distributors, and retailers. They started with a clean slate, fresh thinking, and a single purpose. There is no bloat. They hit the sweet spot. We ditched a system that was costing us more, but price isn’t everything or even the most important thing. We are now doing more with our RMM than ever before. Atera is easier to use, does everything we need, and has fantastic support!
  • secure remote access
  • monitoring software and hardware
  • automation
  • The mobile app is new and rather limited.
  • A single contact cannot be assigned to multiple devices; there is an ok workaround.
  • Contacts must have email address.
Atera helps us be proactive, so we can solve OS and equipment issues before the end-user is even aware anything is going on.

The billing and invoicing portions for accounting would be more usable if tied to a payment gateway, especially if they handled ACH/eChecks as well as credit cards.

  • No per-device fee aligns perfectly with our business model and the environments we are in.
  • Training a new tech takes 1/2 the time; the tools are MUCH easier to use.
Atera has the right balance of power, flexibility, and ease of use.
Chat support is spot on. If chat is not available they reply via email in short order.

Atera is being used in my organization in many ways. First, by installing the agent on every workstation and server, I have the ability to provide remote support after hours to my users. Second, we keep an eye on Operating System patches and push them as necessary. Third, we utilize the reports to watch trends in the organizational technology. We also use the ticketing system constantly to track issues and look up what we did to fix an issue last time we encountered it. We also use the passwords database for secure storage and access to passwords for FTP sites, switches, routers, servers, local admin accounts, service accounts, etc.
  • Ticketing
  • Reporting
  • Remote Access for tech support
  • Patching
  • Password storage
  • Frequent updates, patches, and added functionality
  • Would like it if Atera could push files to a group of computers
  • Network discovery without requiring a domain controller
  • Would like to be able to schedule a host reboot on a case-by-case basis
  • Would love a watered down version of IT Glue or something for device configuration documentation that would tie into the password storage feature
  • Would love if Atera would do a network scan a couple of times a day and report on any changes, additions, or deletions
Atera is aimed at managed service providers, but as a former managed service provider, I could see the value in managing a local network in much the same way as managing a collection of local networks. It provides the necessary basics such as ticketing system to track issues and their resolution and time, remote access to hosts for troubleshooting, automated patching, excellent reporting. Atera's secure password storage is a really nice bonus feature that saves us money over having to purchase an additional product for that.

In this age of increased need for security, I would like to see enhanced security monitoring features added, such as alerts for users' failed login attempts.

  • Atera has provided a significant increase in security posture by keeping on top of patches.
  • Easy to sort monitored devices by OS, came in handy for Windows 7 end of life.
  • Adding Atera's ticketing system helped keep on top of any issues until resolution.
I have used ConnectWise extensively in the past, as well as Autotask. ConnectWise is massive and can do way more than I'm capable of configuring. You would need a full-time staff just to configure it correctly and figure it all out. Autotask is not as massive as ConnectWise, but is still much more complex than Atera. Both are more expensive than Atera. I found Autotask to be less reliable for remote access, even though they use the same product, theirs was simply more buggy than Atera. Bang for the buck, Atera was a no-brainer for us.
Atera support provides answers to my questions lightning fast. They have never left me feeling like I'm out there on my own. I can ask questions by email, or by chat, or by opening a ticket with them and they are always on it quickly. They also have a forum where other Atera users can help you if you need it, and you can also add feature requests via the forum.

Atera was used as our primary RMM software for monitoring and maintenance of client computers and servers, allowing the ability to monitor vital aspects of the systems, manage updates, proactive and reactive running of scripts for maintenance, and remote access.
  • Visualization of key data.
  • Monitoring of key performance indicators on systems.
  • Management of updates.
  • Remote access had issues on occasion but normally was easily worked around by restarting services.
  • Development: during the tail end of our time with them, development seemed to be focused on less-vital aspects.
Atera is well suited for those starting out in the managed services arena, and smaller MSPs. The pricing structure is superb for its capabilities.

  • Able to grow the managed services side without huge increases in expense.
  • Because of the pricing structure, we are able to install the agent on non-managed systems for remote access as needed.
  • Development didn't feel like it was keeping up with requests as they grew.
I'd selected Atera at a point where they were new to the US, and the RMM I was currently using wanted an increase in cost for further growth. I was intrigued by the platform and the cost point was fantastic.
It was great in the beginning. As they grew it became less satisfactory.
