What is Audiense?

Audiense is an Audience Intelligence platform. It aims to help marketers and consumer researchers be innovative and develop relevant audience-centric strategies through the use of proprietary social consumer segmentation whilst providing insights on who they are and how to engage with them in the most meaningful way.

They offer users the choice of 2 products developed for very different needs Audiense Insights: Audience intelligence and segmentation and Audiense Connect (aka SocialBro): A Twitter marketing tool

Audiense Insights allows users to identify and understand any audience, no matter how specific or unique it is. Users can create highly personalised audience segments by combining a variety of filters when creating a report, such as user profiles, affinities, demographics and job roles. With Audiense Insights in hand, the vendor states users can make better marketing decisions, adapt targeting, improve relevancy and drive high-performance campaigns at scale.

Audiense Connect a Twitter Marketing Tool uses the rich audience insights to build and explore communities, identify audiences and engage directly on Twitter at scale via:

  • Community analysis & management.
  • Advanced monitoring & listening.

  • Twitter tailored audiences for advertising.

Audiense Insights segments audiences by the interconnections that exist among the people (“Who knows who”). Thanks to how those connections are created between consumers (“How they know each other”), Audiense can infer their shared interests and affinities.

Its social consumer segmentation provides a great data foundation to Persona development, understanding the audiences that matter to a business, or finding new audience pocket opportunities.

Combined with the affinity graph analysis, it gives users the ability to tap into the ever-evolving culture & trends; and helps bring personalisation and build more relevance in:

  • Influencer and Sponsorship selection

  • Content/creative development

  • PR & Comms strategy

  • Media planning in the cookie-less world (e.g. contextual advertising strategy)

Audiense can be used with other tools, given its data and insights are complementary, rather than overlapping.

  • Existing Social Listening

  • Third-party audience Survey Platforms

  • 1st party data

The Challenge

Culture is always on the move, making it increasingly difficult for consumer segmentation to keep up. However, Audiense's social consumer segments are derived from the consumers behaviour “in the wild '', to make it more likely to reflect real affinities, and become a source of new input into the segmentation strategy.

As a result, the vendor states marketers can use Audiense to identify unique approaches to marketing to consumers that stem from rich and varied social data, in turn providing competitive differentiation.

So what’s the point?

Audiense's goal is to actively trying to solve 3 issues:

#1 Tackling traditional consumer research: it's time-consuming, static and expensive

#2 Incorporation of social data into organisational strategies: They are struggling, for instance, Social Listening is keyword-based and not audience-based

#3 Tactical brand strategy & personalisation: It comes at the expense of performance marketing

We used Audiense when we had big social media accounts on Twitter and we wanted to analyze how their audience was composed. The kind of followers, their main insights, and the brands they were more interested in. It was a good start to separate the audience into very specific or clear groups, so you could start creating hypotheses about how you could segment the audience for future strategies.
  • Segment kind of users inside an audience.
  • Find out the main characteristics between these audiences.
  • A good starting point to create an strategy that needs custom segmentation.
  • To include more social networks that could help Twitter data.
  • An easy way tool from start to segment audiences that share similar characteristics to get a deep-dive.
  • Easy to use export reports or an API integration for a Data visualization tool.
When you start a strategy and want to discover how the audiense is composed, this is the first step to start exploring and then create your buyer personas with more details from other auxiliary tools (social listening, market research). Audiense is the best way to start exploring. It works better when you are dealing with big social media accounts when you want to explore audiences from a specific country or very specific interests. It’s good to import information from listening tools like Brandwatch to get better results about your audience.

We are an agency so use this tool alongside other research tools to provide digital insights that our clients can use to increase the effectiveness of their marketing strategies. This has allowed us to uncover valuable insights around potential and target audiences or uncover niche audiences that our clients weren't aware of.
  • Segmentation
  • In-depth demographics
  • Unique insights compared to other tools i've used - personality
  • Exports could be cleaner
This is a great tool for any business in my opinion. I have used this for commercial clients (B2B) as well as Non-profts but I feel this could be for a range of businesses as the insights are so vast. I have used this to find niche audiences for clients in order for them to target messaging to specific audiences which are more likely to engage with the organization. I have also used this for competitor analysis for smaller/newer brands that need some insight as a place to start by looking at their competitors in order to start building their own audience.

Audiense is a great tool to get valuable information about our subscribers. It allows us to accurately monitor the effectiveness of our accounts on key targets such as opinion leaders and journalists. The tool also allows us to explore the subscribers base of other accounts to detect new communication opportunities.
  • In-depth research among subscribers
  • Tracking of subscribers activity
  • Stats about subscribers base
  • the interface could be cleaned up
  • exports are not as easy as they might be
  • some functions (like DM posting) are not active anymore, even if it's Twitter's fault
Audiense is great (and to my knowledge is the only tool available for most users) to effectively track and study follower bases. However, it lacks capacities for someone wanting to do big-number research/analysis. It is best suited to reasonably sized audiences, up to a few tens of thousands of subscribers

I use it to monitor social engagement for the company's pages and profiles and to monitor our audiences, their interests, and the topics they are more likely to want to discuss. I also use it to discover new users. This function and the relative filters are particularly useful and allow me to accomplish this task quickly and effectively. Another thing I appreciate is the possibility of monitoring Twitter unfollows and inactive users, so I can keep our community fresh and engaged.
  • monitor twitter audiences
  • monitor unfollows
  • discover interesting users
  • discover useful keywords
  • sometimes the follow-unfollow mode gets stuck
  • it would be useful to add tools to automated the most common tasks
Audiense is especially suited for companies that have niche interests and want to get to their specific audience. It is, however, important to know your audience to begin with, so you can target your search on appropriate keywords. It is probably less competitive where broad swaths of interests are involved, like Twitter, for instance, does that pretty well on its own platform. This doesn't mean that Audiense wouldn't help, just that it would be less of a motivating factor for potential users.

We use Audiense to identify optimal times to post and build our target audiences for clients on Twitter. We have a wide variety of clients and need a product like this that delivers insight and robust data that we can pass on to our clients within each sector we are operating in.
  • Twitter audience building
  • Understanding follower bios
  • Understanding what type of content is resonating
  • Legacy data for community content
  • Extractable elements
  • API
The system works brilliantly for Twitter; however, for some use cases, we are limited if the client isn't using Twitter right now and their target Audience is on Instagram or Facebook, for example. We get great insight, and it's a limitation of the networks rather than Audiense, so we completely understand.

We have a varied and sometimes, erratic Twitter audience and we needed to be able to get a proper perspective on its value.
Audiense has enabled us to clean out both poor followers, and pointless follows and keep our Twitter audience current. The tools are easy to use and effective. As a company who values our social interactions, and engages with the folk who wish to get involved in racehorse ownership, we have seen revenue come directly as result of using Audiense.
  • Maintains the cleanliness of Twitter Audience
  • Identifies the right people to follow
  • Allows analysis of competitors audience
  • Interface is very basic

We attract a lot of the wrong type of followers. Followers which have zero value in regards of useful information, interaction, contacts or tweets. We use Audiense to decipher which is which and to remove the bad ones.

I have been able to use Audiense to grow Twitter followership for around a dozen different business accounts. It has proven to be very effective at identifying target audiences in commercial and B2B markets.
  • Segments users based on many variables.
  • Identifies top users based on engagement and use frequency.
  • Makes user targeting simple with advanced search and filters.
  • It's unfortunate that Audiense only works with Twitter.
  • A bulk unfollow feature would be nice.
  • Aggregating users by keywords and hashtags in tweets would be helpful.
Audiense is great for companies or individuals who would like to grow their twitter followership by using the reciprocity principal of social media.

I use Audiense as part of my social media listening and analysis service. I create communities in Audiense via my social listening provider and then cluster these audiences by affinity. This data is invaluable when I am writing social or audience strategies for my clients. For me, the integration with Pulsar Platform makes a huge difference to my offering. Being able to understand the real audience who has talked about your search in this level of detail, as opposed to the traditional 'personas' really elevates the strategies I am able to create.
  • Audience Clustering
  • Likelihood of audience using various social platforms
  • Who influences the audience, and being able to filter this
  • Being able to get really specific about the audience you want to analyze if you're building your audience on the platform.
  • I would like to be able to download more of the charts as CSVs so that I can make my own charts easier
  • I would like them to include the likelihood of social platforms in their PDF report downloads
I either use Audiense alone as a starting point for my strategy, helping me to understand competitor audiences and their makeup, or later on during the process of a more in-depth social listening project. I think Audiense is incredibly helpful if you have no social listening experience and want to understand more about your target audience. It can also be a useful influencer identification tool, particularly with all the filters in your influencer report. Being able to select the size of the influencer audience, and analyze the data for influencers on specific platforms or with specific interests is really really helpful.

Deep understanding of digital target audiences and their interests, motivations, and needs, specifically in comparison to benchmark audiences and general digital behavior across different platforms. The overall problem is the need to increase customer-centricity, specifically to reach a better understanding of the unique perspective and context of the customer in its respective context.
  • Audience segmentation
  • Audience interests
  • Digital platform behaviour
  • Practicalities of using targeting packages
  • Cross-platform behaviour of audiences
  • Filtering out of irrelevant segments
Audiense is specifically well suited for the efficient identification of clearly defined target audiences and their respective segments. It is less suited for identifying broad or niche audiences which lack identifiable markers or criteria when it comes to their specific digital behavior. Overall Audiense works well for well-defined, well-integrated audience identification challenges.

We use both the Connect and Insights parts of Audiense. We use Connect for listening, community insights, and community building. We use Insights to inform content and campaign strategies as well as to identify influential people and entities. Both sides allow us to provide our clients with comprehensive analysis and insights, differentiating us from others as a social media service provider in the process.
  • Twitter Analytics and Insights
  • Audience Persona, Interests and Influences Data
  • Historical Data
  • Listening
  • Moving beyond Twitter as the proxy resource for insights
  • Improved automation between insights and campaign creation for Facebook/Instagram but recognize this could be more of a Facebook/Instagram issue vs an Audiense issue
  • customizable report templates for Insights
We have been a client for over a decade. The Audiense team has been collaborative and supportive in so many ways and with so many clients, going well above the call of duty. They have involved us in a case study and contributed to our book coming out in March. Audiense is one of our most valued relationships. Twitter has not remained competitive with other social media platforms, especially Instagram and TikTok. I can appreciate that Twitter being such an open platform means a tremendous amount of data and insights can be derived to provide value but I trust that Audiense will continue to evolve its solutions to augment the value it can offer to agencies and clients.

I use Audiense to gather insights on our community and followers to help maximize the reach of our content. I also use Audiense to run customized Twitter advertising campaigns. The campaigns I have run with Audiense outperformed the campaigns I've run within the native Twitter app. Finally, I've used Audiense to run a massive donation campaign and ended up meeting our goal within 3 days. I could not have done this without Audiense.
  • Community Insights
  • Detailed Targeting
  • Audience Research
  • Adding new features
  • Training
  • Content Marketing
The best thing about Audiense is that it is a very reliable tool. Whenever I am tasked with an objective, the first thing I think of is how Audiense can help me achieve the goal. Campaign after campaign, Audiense never failed. I would highly recommend Audiense for anyone trying to maximize Twitter campaigns.

Audiense fits a key part of our social intelligence toolkit. We use it for a number of purposes:
  • To understand audience attributes and interests in order to inform strategy
  • To identify relevant (and often niche) influencers
  • To inform media targeting
  • To build consumer personas
  • To inform creative routes, including tone of voice and priority topics
  • To expand on insights from other platforms (e.g., social listening)
  • As a rapid way to gain brand and landscape insights for client pitches
  • Rapid, accessible analysis of social audiences
  • The ability to identify influencers in potentially challenging and niche areas
  • An understanding of the emotional drivers that underpin the audience
  • Demo+sociographic insights that can be used to help build broader personas
  • Larger (more detailed) network maps with greater interactivity
  • More options for network map visualizations
  • Auto-naming of segments is not great
Audiense is great for identifying niche influencers, providing a rapid view of an audience, or getting an understanding of a certain topic. A key benefit of the platform is the pace at which it is possible to do this, and the intuitive interface, which means new users can very rapidly get up to speed on using the platform. While it does work well in isolation, we also find that it often works best when combined with other social listening tools and datasets. It can also be used as a first step to building consumer personas, which can then be expanded through other means (surveys, panel platforms, etc.).

Audiense is a great platform to understand social media audiences. The platform is intuitive to use, and the insights and information it provides are really rich. The tool has different features that provide both granular and aggregate data, which is helpful depending on the scope of the research being conducted. The team behind the app is world class and they provide support with any questions we might have.
  • List of users who follow a handle
  • Metadata behind Twitter profiles
  • Reports
  • Reduce the processing time needed to create a new report
I recommend this tool for teams with marketing analysts

Audiense is part of our tool stack for Social Intelligence, and it is used across all the markets and teams to support our clients' needs and business questions. We use Audiense to have a deeper and better understanding of the customers: 1. Understanding the segments/clusters of a specific Twitter user, a group of Twitter users discussing the same topic, or a group of Twitter users with the same demographic characteristics (to give some examples). 2. Answer the questions of who they are, what are their interest, who they follow, where to find them, when/where they are online and how is their personality. 3. Inform the definition of our clients' Personas and recommendations for targeting campaigns. Most of the data come from Twitter, so it's a Twitter-focus tool. From time to time this is a challenge, as in some markets or demographics Twitter isn't a top social media platform.
  • Clustering Twitter audience based on who they follow or what are their affinities.
  • Providing insights to inform the creation of targeted campaigns.
  • Sharing information for Media Planning (where to reach each the audiences).
  • Highlight what are the differences across clusters/segments
  • Adding other platforms information (Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn...)
Understand who are the followers of a specific brand and their competitors. Identify key engaging content of the vocal users on Twitter about a specific topic. Use the Personality Insights module to inform the creation of bespoke marketing messages per segment identified. Unveil niche audience services for our client, hence new market opportunities. Go beyond socio-demographic information when creating Personas.

For all of More Lights projects, Audiense is a key tool for understanding the preferences and affinities of social audiences. It’s been successfully used in insight projects for some of the world's leading brands and organizations. No other tool we’ve used offers the same depth of insight, usability, or customer support.

  • Brand & Influencer Affinity
  • Media insights
  • Personality Insights

Audiense is used in association with our Twitter marketing department to help us understand who our audience is and to connect with new accounts who we feel align with our brand and content type. It has allowed us to further understand the profile of our current clients/followers, as well as reach out to prospective followers who fit into our target demographic.
  • Audience insights.
  • Follower growth.
  • Targeting.
  • Doesn't always sync with platform specific outreach limitations.
  • The filters do not always align with the selection.
  • Results get rest/randomized without warning.
I feel like Audiense has been the best platform for our Twitter marketing and growth strategies. It has allowed us to view and understand all of the existing followers for any given account, and allows us to reach out to new profiles who fit into the same demographic. It has been very valuable to have the filtering options to refine our searches and outreach.

We use Audiense for community management of our Twitter and Instagram profiles on social networks and also for our customers. It is used by the marketing department and helps us in the investigation of our target audience. It is a very useful tool for audience targeting and finding users.

We were using Audiense to build our influence through social media and attempt to gain followers and spread our brand in this dynamic field.
  • Provides Insights about your own influence
  • Provides insights on others influence and how to gain their following
  • This is a useful tool for information purposes but I wish it had a little bit more bells and whistles
  • Great for gaining perspective on others influence, but not at suggesting how to spread your own clearly

  • Audiense is the best tool I have found for tie your tweets to changes in your followers. In essence, I can see when tweets are gaining or losing followers for my account.
  • Audiense also has great analytical tools like best time to tweet reports
  • Audiense also provide a very complete look at each person you follow or is following you. It helps to understand who the people are.
  • The only complaint I have is that I would like Audiense for other social networks
I recommend Audiense to any client who wishes to better understand who the people they engage with on Twitter are and who wishes to understand how their content impacts their followers.
