Tinkercad has become a valuable tool for educators who want to introduce the basics of 3D design and printing to their students. Teachers appreciate how Tinkercad simplifies the process, making it accessible even for students without prior CAD experience. The software allows for project-based learning, enabling students to bring their prototype ideas to life and emulate real-world STEM careers. In addition to educational settings, Tinkercad is used by non-profit organizations for developing promotional and educational materials. With its easy-to-use interface, users can create custom 3D models and add logos or text, making it ideal for applications like adding labels to museum artifacts or creating braille labels for visually impaired visitors. Furthermore, Tinkercad offers an outreach program where children learn the fundamentals of 3D printing and CAD design, providing them with a hands-on experience in a day camp-style event. Overall, Tinkercad caters to a wide range of users, from educators to advanced designers, offering a versatile solution for various design needs.

User-Friendly Interface: Many users have found Tinkercad to be incredibly user-friendly, making it easy for both students and teachers to quickly learn and implement. The intuitive design interface allows for easy import and modification of existing models, simplifying the design process and facilitating customization.

Valuable Resources and Support: Several reviewers appreciate the provided projects in Tinkercad, which help enhance the learning experience and allow students to explore the program before designing their own complex sculptural forms. Additionally, Tinkercad offers tutorials that contribute to its simplicity and ease of use, providing educational resources that help users navigate the software and acquire basic CAD skills.

Compatibility with 3D Printing: Users have praised Tinkercad for being compatible with 3D printing. It seamlessly integrates with the 3D printing process by providing solid 3D files needed for this purpose. This compatibility ensures high-quality prints while saving users time and effort in preparing designs for printing.

Outdated project instructions: Some users have found that the text for the projects in Tinkercad has not been updated, leading to confusion and difficulties in understanding the instructions.

Compatibility issues on Macs: Several users with Mac computers have reported experiencing issues while using Tinkercad, even when using Google Chrome. This limitation may hinder their ability to fully utilize the software.

Limited rendering options: Users have mentioned that Tinkercad offers very limited rendering options, with no lighting feature available. Models can only be given plain colors, which restricts their creative possibilities.

I use Autodesk Tinkercad to develop promotional and educational materials for my non-profit organization. The program has a user-friendly interface that allows you to create custom 3D models that are easy to export and print. You can also use the program to add logos or text to existing models. I often use it to add 3D labels to models of artifacts for our museum, or even to create brail labels for visually impaired visitors. I also use the program to create unique and memorable gifts for donors.
  • Excellent workspace.
  • User-friendly interface for 3D modeling.
  • Easy to import and modify existing models.
  • High-quality exports in all major formats.
  • Controls can be finicky.
I have found that Autodesk Tinkercad is best for creating simple 3D models for printing. I use it to add text or modifications to 3D models of artifacts for my museum, including labels and support structures for artifacts to stand on. I also use it to create promotional materials, like 3D models of artifacts with our logo on them, which we can print and pass out at events. I would not use Autodesk Tinkercad for more complex 3D modeling or editing 3D models. It's really designed for basic creation and modification, and in those areas it is extremely useful!
  • Quick and easy.
  • Ability to add text and logos to models.
  • Ability to import and modify STL and OBJ files.
  • High quality exports for online sharing or 3D printing.
  • Autodesk Tinkercad allows us to create unique and memorable promotional materials.
  • Personalized 3D printed gifts made in Tinkercad are a simple and effective way to show donors you appreciate them.
  • Autodesk Tinkercad makes creating text or brail labels for museum exhibits incredibly simple and cost-efficient, and it makes a huge impact on visitors.
Autodesk Tinkercad is by far the most user-friendly 3D modeling program I have used, especially for basic 3D modeling tasks. MeshLab and MeshMixer have similar functions but are far more complicated to navigate and difficult to use. These programs also tend to crash frequently, which has never been a problem with Tinkercad. The fact that you can use Tinkercad without downloading any software also makes it far more accessible, as you can log into your account and edit your models from any computer. I use 3ds Max for more complex 3D modeling, but for small tasks I always choose Tinkercad.

Tinkercad is a great tool for simplistic design. It is perfect for anyone without a CAD background with a simple and intuitive interface. I've used this to make simplistic objects that were then easily exported for 3D printing. This is also great for kids as sort of a first CAD program.
  • Intuitive Design
  • Make 3D printing files
  • Learn basic CAD skills
  • Best for simple parts
  • Seems more of a toy compared to more professional software
  • Hard to tell measurements sometimes
The price is right and the capabilities are great. As long as it does everything you need then go for it. It's not a simulator or great for complex parts, but if you have no CAD background, but want to make a 3D object to be printed this is about as easy as it's gonna get.
  • Great Price
  • Easy to use
  • Easy to export
  • Doesn't require a lot of training
  • Fast design
  • Fun
Tinkercad has a fraction of the capabilities but is also a fraction of the price. Most of the tools of SOLIDWORKS are overkill for the average user anyway. The software is also much more intuitive comparatively without the need for training (like we're talking there are college courses about SOLIDWORKS)!

It is a great introduction to 3D modeling and design for students during our stem challenges at school. We use it with the upper elementary, and others use it with middle school students. Great for project-based learning and helping students bring their prototype ideas to life, and it mimics real-world stem careers.
  • Simple 3D tools
  • Free and online and accessible
  • Has tutorials
  • The tutorials could be more easily readable and easier for younger students
  • Sometimes confusing how to use the mouse tools vs on an iPad
  • Less professional, not often used in career fields
I think it is a great and well-known tool for stem in schools, for 3d printing, for teaching 3d modeling basics and tutorials to learn on your own, for teachers and students to use, and to create on a desktop or an iPad. It’s a great cheaper, accessible option!
  • Free/cost/accessible
  • Easy to use for teachers and students
  • Compatible with our devices
  • Helping students prototypes and ideas come to life
  • Connecting to math and science and engineering standards
  • Great thing to “advertise” to prospective families that we teach at our school
PTC Creo is a more professional software and is great and I used it for many years at my old job, but tinkercad is great for younger students in my opinion and it is nice that it can be accessed online and as a teacher it seems easier to manage. It also has more kid friendly built in tutorials and I think is easier to pick up and learn. Many teachers I think would be overwhelmed by Creo and it also has more of a cost than tinker.

Use them in the elementary and middle school STEM labs with our students to make their engineering prototypes come to life! Great use of 3D shapes, math, measurement, and design work. Students have a lot do fun doing it and we have fun teaching it, which is always a bonus.

We use Autodesk Tinkercad as part of our customer Outreach Program. In this program, we bring in the children of our clients and teach them the fundamentals of 3D Printing and CAD design in a "Day Camp" style event. Autodesk Tinker CAD is an easy-to-use program that provides the near-instant ability for the user to create 3D objects and export them for 3D Printing.
  • Simple, easy to use 3D Design
  • Quick rendering and output of 3D Files for printing
  • The ability to save files locally instead of having to export them would be nice
  • The randomly assigned default names given to files can be confusing
Autodesk Tinkercad is the perfect web-based software for anyone thinking about dabbling in 3D Modelling. It is easy to learn and its cloud-based rendering makes for fast work even on computers with slower graphics cards.
  • Easy to use
  • Free
  • Fast
  • Autodesk Tinkercad has enabled us to engage our customers further by offering enrichment programs for their children which will help to inspire them into STEM careers
Tinkercad is free and easy to use. It's a great place for people to start learning about 3D Design before they invest time and money in professional-level tools.
