Azure IoT Hub is used by several clients within my organization, the latest project is about telemetry data from sensors installed in cars allowing easy connection and registration at the scale of new sensors, managing them, and redirecting the data to other services of the business workflow. The Microsoft Azure IoT Hub is very intuitive and easy to use, this is why is our to-go service for handling several IoT devices.
  • Massive registration and deployment of new devices.
  • Easy integration with other Azure services.
  • Handling security if devices.
  • It's usually more expensive than its competitors.
  • More restrictions and limitations for registering IoT Devices.
  • Documentation is confusing, compared to AWS IoT.
I would recommend Azure IoT Hub for the energy industry and for massive scaling, maintaining security, and easy management of devices. It could be less suited from my point of view to small IoT projects due to the steeper learning curve.
  • Device management.
  • IoT Hub SDK.
  • Security
  • Message routing.

  • Azure is the main partner of my organization, so it's the to-go platform, having a positive impact on the ROI.
I preferred AWS because it's faster to learn while more complex on Azure, either way, Azure is very complete and professional, although more expensive sometimes.

We are developing a device that will use the Azure IOT hub to communicate with other devices. This device will communicate within our research building to send notifications regarding login in and login out. Azure IoT hub with Azure student programs is cheap and our school has purchased a yearly subscription for the same. This device will be helpful for our school and is a part of our research.
  • Bidirectional communication on cloud with different devices.
  • Secured communication with different devices.
  • Compatibility with IOT central and Azure event grid.
  • Its expensive for individual use and price needs to be decreased.
  • Documentation of IOT hub is a little confusing and needs to be detailed.
  • Azure edge services are mediocre as compare to Amazon edge services.
We are using the Azure IOT hub for solving the multitenancy problem within our research project. We are consuming data from various resources and communicating it with different devices on our hybrid cloud. We also use Azure IoT as a bridge between two business Intelligence sources which are really hard to connect devices.
  • Bidirectional communication with the devices on the cloud
  • End to End connection oriented communication with the devices on the cloud.
  • Secured communication with the devices on the cloud
  • Easy to mange and configure just with hitting buttons.

  • As a student, we are using student program subscription which is cheaper than an individual or business subscription.
  • Our school devices our efficiently communicating with each other which has increased the revenue of our school.
  • It provides strong and robust cloud communication within the premises which also helped in increased in the school reputation.
Azure IoT provides robust bi-directional communication within the cloud and can store millions of messages from the different devices on the cloud.
It provides seamless communication and it's easy to integrate different IoT applications like app service and device management. It handles heavy throughput and can collect sensor data which is cool.

Usage of IoT products for intelligent logistics operations. We develop Smart Sensors (Sensoroids) which are capable of acting as a direct representation of their physical counterparts in the cloud. For the sensors to act as digital twins in logistics we require to acquire several sensor data to represent the staus of the good in transport. As such we need to acquire location (GPS and indoor location) sensors (such as temperature, humidity, weight, vibration and shock) to be able to inform the asset owner about the relevant data for their goods.

Azure IoT is being used as a central message, OTA, command and control platform for multiple connected devices hosted in different locations across the globe, including China. It acts as a distributed solution managing multiple use cases, interacting with third party APIs, mobile apps (20+) and consumers. Azure IoT also provides end to end security and ability to process billions of messages per second with great performance.
  • Very Strong Security Standards.
  • Good documentation and easy to implement.
  • Hardware and embedded integration could improve or be at parity with competitor.
  • Pricing model not as flexible as competitor.
Extremely robust and scalable, Azure IoT can be easily deployed to manage and run any IoT infrastructure you need - messaging, notifications, business rule engine, machine learning, Artificial Intelligence. It integrates well with broader Azure offerings and other open source tools as well. Security is a pro, and user base is growing. Another benefit is geo availability, especially if you have to support different requirements like GDPR or China.

  • Drove down our TCO by double digit percentage.
  • Easy to find professionals who understand the platform.
Very comparable to the AWS offer, although brings additional security. Far ahead the rest of the industry, with end to end architecture and feature-set. Geo availability is a plus as well. Pricing could be more flexible or easy to understand - too many different components to consider making it hard to understand - but overall is not expensive.
Azure IoT support professionals are strong, and always provide timely responses. Vast documentation and examples are available, plus a network of professionals in the market. It's very comparable to the main competitor offer, and easily integrated into the main Azure product offer. Azure IoT is not a new solution, so it is very mature and support can easily address any day to day or architectural concern you have.
