What is Basecamp?

Basecamp is a web-based project-management tool developed by 37signals in Chicago and launched in 2004. The Ruby on Rails framework was extracted from the Basecamp project.

Basecamp offers features standard to project management platforms, including to-do lists, wiki-style web-based text documents, milestone management, file sharing, time tracking and a calendar, and a messaging system. Mobile accessibility is supported. Notably, it supports unlimited users. It also offers integration with 37signals' own Campfire product, which expands the group messaging functionality of the core platform. Customization, accessibility, and functionality are extended further by the broad range of apps available for free from 3rd parties. A 2-month free trial is available. Pricing is dependent upon space requirements and the number of concurrent projects, not the number of users.

Community Insights

TrustRadius Insights are summaries of user sentiment data from TrustRadius reviews and, when necessary, 3rd-party data sources. Have feedback on this content? Let us know!

Based on user reviews, here are the three most common recommendations for Basecamp:

  1. Learn and Utilize Basecamp's Features: Users recommend taking the time to learn about all of Basecamp's features and functions. They suggest getting training or working with someone experienced in Basecamp to fully utilize the platform. This recommendation helps users make the most out of their Basecamp experience.

  2. Set Up a Standardized System: Many users suggest setting up a system or process that everyone can follow when using Basecamp. This recommendation helps to ensure consistency and streamline project management within teams.

  3. Consider Other Tools for Advanced Functionalities: While users find Basecamp handy for organizing projects, offering instructions and feedback, some reviewers suggest using a more advanced tool, like Monday.com, for large teams collaborating on projects. They advise evaluating additional functionalities and comparing prices before deciding on Basecamp.

Overall, users recommend considering Basecamp as a low-cost option for small teams with straightforward projects. It is recommended for organizing projects, managing workflows, facilitating team cooperation, linking departments, coordinating tasks, and storing data. However, users caution against using it for purposes other than its intended use and highlight that compared to more advanced tools, it might seem basic and limited in benefits. It is also suggested to stay updated with appropriate titles and efficiently organize projects while using Basecamp. Additionally, Google Drive is recommended for file management purposes.

We use [Basecamp] as a small team to track our team's coverage on different ticketed issues that arise. This way, we can determine team member bandwidth, figure out the status of different tickets, and provide robust reporting so executives can get a snapshot of the work in progress. As far as I know, it's not used beyond our team.
  • Recognizable brand allows for immediate software acceptance
  • Pretty solid APIs to pull in data from other platforms
  • Lightweight software that can be accessed from anywhere
  • Honestly, I struggle with the User Interface -- it's not intuitive
  • I wish there was more extensive drag-and-drop functionality
  • I struggle to figure out the stage of a project at certain points
It depends how quickly you need to set up a solution. We needed to set up a solution suitable for reporting ASAP if not sooner. We're small to mid-size team within a large corporation, so it works well for our purposes. However, if you needed it to support a larger enterprise effort, I wouldn't recommend it.

We currently use Basecamp only in our department, though we've recommended it to other departments on campus. Basecamp is great for organizing all of our project details, comps, and final files - as long as everyone agrees to use it in the same way. With large projects it can get to be overwhelming, so it's recommended to plan out how you want to organize your files, overview, milestones etc.
  • Communication. Since it sends you emails as well as gives you a notification in the top bar when you're needed, it's easy to stay on track with comments and feedback.
  • File sharing. It supports a lot of different file types, so when referencing a file you can see it right on basecamp without having to download it on your computer first.
  • Organization. With large projects it can get overwhelming with lots of comments, comps, and feedback. But with some planning and the use of the Project Activity timeline, it's easy to stay on track.
  • High Learning Curve. It's true that it can be easy to use, but to use well and effectively takes some time to learn. It's recommended to have an agreed-upon system in your team of what tools to use and when.
  • Notification Overload. If people aren't careful they could send a notification to everyone when only a couple people were meant to be prompted. And since emails are sent by default, you could have your mailbox overloaded with unnecessary updates. This is where it takes a bit of training in your team to have an agreed-upon system.
  • Lack of organization with Archived Projects. I will often need to reference an archived project to make a new one, but there is only a list of archived projects in alphabetical order, with no way to organize by archive date, or even search.
Basecamp is great for the organization of design or copy comps and sharing progression of the project. It is not meant to be only a file share site, but integrates well with box, dropbox, and Google Drive for larger files. It allows for client sharing, so that only certain messages and files are seen by your clients, but requires a bit of training within your team to function properly.

It has helped me a lot to keep in better communication with the clients and employees of the company, thus improving the relationship within the workplace. I have been able to obtain better results in the management of a project, thus being able to specify each objective correctly, completely, and without any setback. It has kept us really up to date, organized and synchronized with projects and team communication, and at the same time with the client. It has been possible to have a pleasant and comfortable experience with this platform, and it has not taken much effort to learn how its tools are used.
  • The interface has been very useful since it is intuitive and easy to configure since this platform is based on simplicity.
  • No professional recruitment is needed to be able to operate within the platform.
  • It is very simple to be able to create and assign tasks to users, in addition to being very simple to be able to follow up on it.
  • The ability to manage users is incredible and you can also include clients in projects that are carried out.
  • It is not very customizable in terms of aesthetics, hopefully, it could be adapted to the characteristics of the company.
  • Sometimes it is a little difficult to keep the thread of the conversation since everything is together and you cannot make comment sections if you have to ask a separate question.
  • I think Basecamp is very basic for great projects as it lacks many functions and tools.
I recommend it for its simplicity and how easy it is to use without the need to resort to experts to explain its use. Also, if they are projects that are very short or easy to carry out, then Basecamp is the ideal for those cases without exception.

Basecamp is used for a project with different parties to stay connected and share experiences.
  • Message board where people can share news or ideas.
  • Creates a dashboard suited for your needs.
  • Notifications may get a bit excessive if you don't set them right.
  • I'm not sure if there's an ability to hold video meetings, that would be really good.
Basecamp is suited for collaborative projects or just a place for people to come together to use as a platform for engagement. This can also be used as a good tool for project management where you can keep track of projects and events, and document management in a company. Its user-friendly interface allows users to use it easily and efficiently.

We have a Ceridian Dayforce user group that is being administered via Basecamp. I am a part of the group and it is only being used to facilitate communication with the group members. Basecamp is a good tool that integrates information from all questions initiated. It is a good repository of past information.
  • Easy to add new users and access user information.
  • Easy to integrate with email.
  • Data is organized well in Basecamp, by new discussions, calendar, projects etc.
  • Base camp is good for communicating with other users but not apt for project management.
  • It lacks advanced features in project management like milestones, and schedule charts.
  • Many reports or files can be stored within the system and accessed easily. But it is difficult to filter files by document type.
It is a good tool that integrates information from multiple users. It is great to connect with other users. I can review discussions by date if I have been away for a long time. It is easy to view and add comments in response to other questions.

If a question or response is unsuitable for the group, it can be dismissed.

Many consider Basecamp to be a project management tool. In my opinion, it should not be used for project management.

Basecamp is a flexible, cost effective collaboration tool for large teams. In our project we are used it as a knowledge repository. The tool slowly gained traction and now being used across the whole organization. We could upload documents on Basecamp and ask for reviews and enhancements, comments from the team. We could track each team members tasks and ask for updates.
  • It is a great tool for large teams. There is no limit on the number of people one can add.
  • It comes with a good user interface. For people who were used to old tools, this is a god send.
  • It is a cloud application and does not need a big team to maintain it.
  • For a person working on multiple projects, it is difficult to flip between different portals.
  • Reports can be run out of basecamp. They are very basic, there is scope for improvement there.
  • There is no way to track time or record time in basecamp as of now.
We were a large team, so basecamp came in handy in collaborating and tracking tasks. We needed some training documentation to be made available for both internal and external users. Without Basecamp we would need to work with IT department, take several approvals, get a URL and give the training material to IT department, so that they can upload it. With Basecamp, there is no dependency on IT department. We created a portal and uploaded the training material and made it available to the audience within an hour.

We use it as a project management platform to organize different projects and initiatives.
  • Easy to use.
  • Works well on iPhone.
  • Good value.
  • It would be nice to customize notifications to not just be all or none and to select preferences by the project.
Basecamp has been a great tool to get our teams working together and to share information. We haven't been using it as much this past year, and I am not sure why, but 2-3 years ago it was really great for our organization.

We used Basecamp to streamline several processes during the lifetime of the campaign cycle: specifically trafficking creatives, building creatives and creating media plans. As an organization, we were comprised of offices in seven different markets that were all serviced by a centralized digital department and we wouldn't have been able to manage campaigns across the board if it weren't for Basecamp.
  • Intuitive and easy to pick up and start using.
  • Great system of reminders and notifications to keep everyone up to date.
  • The ability to assign to do's and view other's to-do lists is super invaluable to me as a manager.
  • Sometimes navigating to areas I frequent is a bit clunky.
  • I wish I could at least see projects I'm not invited to, though ideally, I'd love to have a setting to just automatically give me access to everything. As a manager, it's always tedious having to request access to campaigns all the time.
I've always used it for project and ad campaign management and I think it excels at both. We used it as a central meeting hub for sales, operations, and creative teams as well as the client in some instances.

Honestly, in all the instances I've used Basecamp it's worked exceptionally well. I'm sure there are instances where Basecamp is not ideal but in the Advertising world, I've always thought it was a great fit for our needs.

Basecamp is one of the superb project management tools that is being used widely all over the world. Indeed a collaborative application for those who work mainly in a team on a daily basis. In order to make certain group projects, assignments and presentation it’s a must-have application with all these amazing features. An interesting feature that I personally like the most is its sandbox-style that gives users a good place to make conversation with colleagues and clients as well.
  • Its messaging board is amazing. It keeps track of the incoming and outgoing messages in a useful queue manner.
  • It is an effective tool.
  • It offers the ability to make to-do lists which decreases my workload.
  • Sometimes there are certain connectivity issues that slow down the working process.
  • Although I like everything in it but occasionally when I have to export my work to excel format as they have no feature for that so I feel a bit annoyed and confusing.
  • Apart from this, I like each and everything about this product.
It is a great product for our company and giving excellent performance. Automatic check-ins are also a blessing in disguise for every kind of organization. This is a simple and interactive application for those organization where there is a need to do many tasks within a team. It is also an effective software that takes less effort to set up than others.

Basecamp is being used by the production department. It allows us to manage our projects very effectively. It is a useful collaborative tool for teams, which organizes projects in a simple and effective way. With the implementation of this software it is easy to communicate, share documents, create a calendar, assign responsibilities and monitor the progress of the processes. It allows to obtain results that can be measured in productivity.
  • It is easy to implement and it is simple to assign tasks because the interface is excellent.
  • It is excellent for creating a work calendar with specific tasks and dividing them according to areas and processes.
  • The chat room is effective, to publish information about the organization.
  • It is very useful that all conversations, requirements and shared files are stored on the platform.
  • It facilitates the monitoring of the work of each professional, something very significant for the internal management of the projects.
  • It is a very excellent program to plan projects in an organization, although Their reports regarding time issues are somewhat basic or elementary.
It offers the organization the simplification of work methods and favors the circulation of information among users. For the simplification of working methods and for favoring a fluid circulation of information among users. Basecamp is used throughout the whole company. We're aggressively growing and acquiring new properties. We need to keep track of layouts, photos, logos, and more. Basecamp helps us do that. The construction, investments, finance, and marketing teams all have access and it's a great tool for us.
  • It's great for collaboration. When we acquire a new property, we need to consolidate all of its digital assets into one space. Multiple departments need to be able to access these assets. We have teams in 12 states and various timezones. Basecamp allows us to work together even though we're hundreds of miles apart.
  • We recently updated our website, turning it into a huge corporate site with several microsites. When building this out, Basecamp was an essential tool working with external agencies. They would upload new wireframes and we could make comments and suggestions.
  • It's a great project management tool. When you're working with internal and external stakeholders on multiple projects, Basecamp allows all of us to stay on target and work together.
  • Bulk download of files.
  • Upload files larger than 10GB.
  • Easier UX. The layout can be confusing, especially to those who are new to the platform.
Basecamp is a terrific project management tool. It's one-stop shopping, a platform to share and store assets, schedule projects, message boards, and group chat. If you're looking for a platform where your internal and external stakeholders can collaborate efficiently, then Basecamp is it. The layout can be a bit confusing to newcomers so there is an adjustment period. There is also the baffling inability to bulk upload and download. But overall, I would highly recommend Basecamp. Once you get into it and use it on a consistent basis, you'll be hooked.

Basecamp is being used throughout the company by keeping all projects in one product where everyone can see and use it. All clients that we have come in contact with are also stored in there. It saves a lot of time between talking to departments because they can just look in Basecamp and usually see everything they need. It also keeps everything organized and secure at the same time.
  • Keeps things organized and easy to find at any time.
  • User-friendly. Easy to upload new information and find information.
  • The amount of people that can take advantage of Basecamp at one time is awesome.
  • Sometimes when using Google Chrome it does not work so you have to disable some extensions. I wish it could work all the time in any browser without having to do anything.
  • It would be nice if Basecamp could change languages also.
  • Could probably be a little cheaper.
When calling a client about a project we can all look into Basecamp and see the same project so we are on the same page and both see it at the same time. If I need to change the language for a client I cannot so it causes some issues.

It is used as an online collaboration app where employees discuss their projects, queries etc. One can share DOC and CSV files using Basecamp. It also features task management (for keeping tracks of tasks ), group discussion between team members, Discussion Boards, and Project Management. Instead of stuff scattered all over, everything you're working on will be in one streamlined and organized area.
  • Handle multiple tasks at a single place.
  • Communicating with multiple users in one place.
  • Not a great UI. The mobile application is not user-friendly.
A cool tool for sharing project information and documents between local and remote team members as well as customers.
Handling multiple tasks at a single platform, event management, and meetings.
Organising business is understandable.
Performs work fast. Can chat with individuals and groups in real time.
Notification is sent to the concerned person. Searching filters and activity feeds are also available.

Basecamp is used to encourage collaboration across multiple teams and multiple geographic areas. It is a new tool for our organization and offers a platform for us to generate ideas, make plans, and hold team members accountable, as well as idea share and give feedback/input. It is an excellent tool for project management, for those who know project management and those who don't.
  • Managing reports for various users so I can quickly see what is on my plate and the plates of others.
  • Easy to use, intuitive interface. People with all technological skill levels will be able to use the program.
  • Monitor activity several ways - by person, by date, or by project segment.
  • Better integration with Google Docs and e-mail (could show a display of the doc instead of the icon, auto-assign an e-mail to a project, etc).
  • A feature that would allow you to resurrect a project and tasks, that would automatically clear out the history so you could start fresh without having to re-enter all the tasks.
  • It would be great to be able to toggle between seeing completed tasks and uncompleted tasks, both all at once, or just one at a time. Being able to see only the uncompleted tasks on a project would be helpful to give a better overview of what still needs to be done.
Basecamp is best utilized for teams of people assigned to work on multi-layered projects. It is especially useful for my team who has members who work remotely or part-time. The best part of using Basecamp is that it allows me to spend focus time working on this specific project, and there is less clutter in my inbox because all the questions are contained to Basecamp. I've tried to use it just for my own use as a task manager, but it's not set up well for that.

We use Basecamp on projects and ongoing work at the Center for Distributed Learning for communication, collaboration, and to break down tasks into component To Do items. We find that the To Do lists provide a simple "eyeball" method for judging the completeness of tasks.

Our organization consists of various functional teams that are not required to Basecamp. Its use is completely optional but judging by the number of projects currently using it (43), our teams find it a valuable tool.

Some of the projects we are involved in tend to be long-term, slow progress efforts. It would be quite difficult to stay in touch with them without having a record of the goals, desired outcomes, and activity toward those goals. Basecamp solves this problem for us.

  • For us the strength of Basecamp is the To Do list. To Do lists help us in three ways: 1) They help us document how work breaks down into component subtasks; 2) They provide a simple means of tracking work (eyeball method); 3) After the work is complete, the To Do list along with all the comments and notes attached to it provides a means to help predict the level of effort for similar tasks that may need to be done in the future.
  • I personally use To Do lists frequently when reviewing media for online courses like software demonstrations, videos, stills, and any other content that might be included in the course. Each error, be it a typo, flaw, or design issue is documented a single line item. The To Do item is the assigned to a team member to be addressed. Basecamp notifies them via email. These completed lists provide us with a kind of measure of the initial quality of our alpha-level work.
  • I like to refer to Basecamp as "Project Management Lite". Basecamp plays that role well and needs little improvement if used as a project accessory and not as a formal management tool. If I were to wish for one thing it would be that there be some sort of native reporting tool that would help in understanding the level of effort for tasks. I have investigated a few of the third party tools powered by the Basecamp API but have not been satisfied with any so far.
  • For our needs here at the University of Central Florida it would be nice to have expanded options for managing user roles that include a wider range of "Super Powers" as Basecamp calls them.
  • If you have certain projects that contain sensitive data or other information that must remain totally under your own control then you should probably avoid Basecamp since it is hosted entirely on their facilities.
You'll need to understand your security requirements, user management needs, and your data storage requirements.

Basecamp was used to manage projects by teams. We were able to solve the problem of not having a central server to store documents on, by collecting notes, documents and design files in one accessible location.
  • Very simple to upload notes and documents.
  • The whole interface is very easy to pick up.
  • Managing multiple projects at one time was easy with dashboard view.
  • The calendar could be more robust. I'd like to be able to see what a specific user is doing across multiple projects.
Basecamp is a great resource for design projects. It's easy to assign tasks to designers and have them upload their deliverables.

I wouldn't use it for managing larger projects that have many small pieces as the documents may get lost in a flood. It's also too simple to manage technical projects.

I'm part of an IT team and our department uses Basecamp for IT team tasks and also with other departments to manage communication and tasks for (1) weekly on-boarding of new employees, (2) large on-boarding events, and (3) longer term projects like installing new tech in schools. There are about five to six teams, around 50 people total in our Basecamp environment.
  • Basecamp is relatively easy to use. Some of our users are not especially comfortable or adept with technology, so having a relatively simple tool was important for us. Project Management tools are tricky, they are only useful if everyone gets on board. Basecamp's ease of use helps everyone get on board.
  • Since Basecamp is pretty widely used, there are a fair amount of online resources and training available. As IT people, we didn't want to implement a system we would have to train everyone on and support constantly. Our Basecamp users can get a decent overview and have their questions answered really easily by searching the web.
  • It's quick and cost-effective. You can set up an account and start using it within a few minutes. Since it's priced according to how many "projects" you set up and not how many users you have, it's really cheap to use. We never have more than 10 projects going at once, so that means we pay $20/month *total* for unlimited users. We're a non-profit and didn't really have the resources to devote to more sophisticated (expensive) Project Management tools, so this was a big deal for us.
  • My biggest overall complaint with Basecamp is that, although the interface is pretty simple, it's also pretty clunky. The point of Basecamp is to keep teams organized and working fluidly, but sometimes the rigid simplicity of Basecamp is as frustrating as it is useful. The project pages can start to look cluttered if a lot of people are involved in a project and they're creating a lot of discussions and posting a lot of files. If you have a lot of people to invite at once (like us, 50+), the interface for inviting them to Basecamp and organizing them into teams and groups is tedious. If you don't keep up with this tedious task as new users are added, then you risk having them lose out on communications. Some level of Active Directory integration or even just a simple email list import function would be a welcome addition.
I think Basecamp is ideally suited to smaller teams and companies (like 25 users or less) looking for something quick, easy, and cost effective. It's seems that's what it's designed for. It's great for small freelancing teams or individuals. It can improve the signal-to-noise ratio of your team's communications and cut down on redundant emails, texts, meetings, and phone calls. It provides a one-stop repository for shared documents, discussions, and tasks. It's easy to learn and use and even basic users can identify some functionality in it.

If you have a larger team like we do, it can still be useful, but it becomes a bit harder to get everyone to adhere to it consistently. While this is true of just about any Project Management tool, Basecamp's lack of robust user management and clunky interface exacerbate it's weaknesses for larger teams.

We use Basecamp for file sharing and collaboration on projects across the business and with our external vendors. Basecamp makes it easy to organize our projects and work with large file internally and externally while assigning tasks and responsibilities around each project.
  • Notifies selected users of new tasks.
  • Easily share large files.
  • Combines all work into easily accessible files.
  • Better organization of multiple tasks under different projects
Best suited when working across a number of projects with a number of users. We generally have 5 to 10 collaborators on a project and the file sizes are frequently over 10mb which is too large for email.

Basecamp was used by a Digital UX vendor that we engaged on our project. Primarily the company used the program to store and organize files such as wireframes, visual mockups, project plans, etc.
  • The user interface was simple to use.
  • I did not need any training.
  • Versions were clear.
  • User comments as they related to versions were clear.
  • Basecamp is a great file storage solution but as a PM I did not feel it covered other areas of Project Management.
  • I found it difficult to really understand where a number of items were in the process based on the setup and resorted to using a MS mpp stored in the file storage.
  • Ultimately I spent a lot of time looking for information that I thought was pivotal to being a project tracking tool.
As a project manager I did not feel like Basecamp met my needs and whenever it has come up as a tool choice I agree that it has its strengths from a development perspective. I always recommend that it not be the only tool used to track a project. If given the choice of one tool for project tracking, I strongly advise against it in favor of tools like TeamworkPM or JIRA.

We mainly use Basecamp during project delivery phases for collaboration between both internal and external teams. This aids clarity of communication and ensures that issues, risks and milestones are managed in a transparent manner.
  • Issue tracking - having a contact log for issues that ensures tracking to completion.
  • Document management - documents such as specification, designs and basic screenshots can be added and retrieved easily.
  • User interface - the solution is simple to use and intuitive enough that only the most basic of training is required, even for non-technical team members.
  • Multi-media support - it would be good to be able to preview multi-media files.
Basecamp is more suited to specific project tracking tasks (both from a global and granular scale). The message board functionality is also useful and in some cases can form "wikis" to support business processes.

  • Though we don't necessarily use this how it's designed, we do use it to coordinate projects across multiple departments. It allows us to have not only a shared calendar for all of our different marketing efforts, it also is a place to keep all of the collateral we need for each project in one place.
  • We are able to use this to share documents, images, and various checklists to keep everyone on the same page. It serves as a shared repository of different pieces of information, helping to avoid silos and getting us over having to rely on share drives and email communications.
  • We can manage a schedule with Basecamp that holds all of our different teams accountable to the projects that are being managed - which is great when we have so many things going on with departments who don't often communicate with each other.
  • There's no way to share just the calendar without also including someone on a project. So, people may receive information that doesn't pertain to them, and then it can create some question of separating the signal from the noise on important projects.
  • There is no versioning available for items added to Basecamp - so your options are either to replace historical documents with the new ones, or to append the new documents and try to be clear about the order of importance.
  • They removed the milestone functionality from calendar events, which was a nice way to manage things on the calendar and to mark them as complete. We've worked around it by creating a "Done" calendar and migrating completed calendar events to that project.
We use this more as a repository of all feedback around different projects. This has become a key way that we communicate across different teams in different locations. This also helps us to ensure that, year over year, we have a historical context of why particular decisions were made. It's become an invaluable way to keep the clutter out of email and still keep everyone calling from the same playbook, so to speak. As teams continue to adopt this as a communication tool, we're seeing great results in how we're able to collaborate across different roles.

Basecamp is currently being used among our digital and online ecommerce team to interact with several vendors to schedule and plan a variety of initiatives. I work with the marketing side of our ecommerce team, and have found Basecamp to be very useful in planning email blasts, marketing campaigns, vendor powered coupons, and other such tasks. Basecamp helps resolve the "Whats Next" issue. It keeps us organized and structured such that we know what needs to be provided and by who.
  • It keeps us organized and structured such that we know what needs to be provided and by who.
  • Tasks are given out to each member with email reminders
  • Holds the team accountable for the various tasks that need to be accomplished.
  • The initial setup is sometimes tedious, but after it is done, you can copy the format for all other projects
Basecamp is very useful if you are struggling with keeping a workflow in place and holding people accountable for their actions. I would recommend Basecamp to pretty much any organization as you could be using it among a small team of 5 people, to an entire organization. Another added benefit is that Basecamp is not extremely expensive as some of the competitors are.

Basecamp is being used as a project management/collaboration tool across the organization. It's supposed to be uniting copy, creative, and us as the digital marketing team in making timelines and creating assets.

It is currently being used by only our department.

Basecamp eliminates combing through 100's of past emails to find versions or conversations with coworkers. It's a place where an entire project can live and exist. It creates transparency in the creative process.
  • Consolidates project documents
  • Increases transparency
  • Eliminates the need for 1 off emails
  • It can be insanely disorganized depending on the user
  • Without the proper training it ends up being more of a hassle than it's worth
  • It can be time consuming to manage all projects inside BC
I think it's appropriate for a group of people who have a technical background. It's incredibly easy to use, and with little explanation those people can be up and running.

Unfortunately for people who are not technically inclined and don't understand organization it ends up being a complete disaster. Finding files, or comments becomes a nightmare. So training is required.
