We use Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT as our fundraising and alumni database to keep records updated, record donations, send emails, generate mailing lists, host events, and do prospect management. We switched from our university system and streamlined all of our processes. Gift officers are easily able to use Raiser's Edge NXT both in the office and on the road. Sending emails comes at no extra cost, as opposed to using MailChimp.

We use Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT to communicate with our constituents and keep track of event registrations, donations, outreach activities. We send messages to our donor list, invitations to meetings and events, updates on our activities and year end appeals. We also send postal mail using the database to select relevant subsets of our list.

provides statistics on how many people have opened the email
allows us to select relevant subsets of our list

Cons

editing the email is very cumbersome. I know how to do it but if I have to teach a new person there are too many non intuitive steps
mails don't get past the spam filter
adds extra spaces which you have to go back and delete , checking every time
slow
if we send from a gmail id the message will not actually go to any recipients with gmail ids, yet their email ids will be listed under recipients. very misleading.

Likelihood to Recommend

We need a system to send emails to our list of donors and it does the job. I haven't tried other systems so I don't actually know if there is a simpler one out there but it feels quite cumbersome.

We have used this software solution for a number of years and have increased our donations through its use. By using it, we are able to leverage the data within it to offer more personal asks for donors and prospect new donors almost like you would in CRM software.

I have found that Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT is very versatile in its use-cases. We have it integrated with their other product - Financial Edge, which allows for auto data replication in each database. We have used it to cut down on double-entry of items between our development and finance office. Their product however, is not the easiest for new users to pick up on and start using. It helps that it is a typical SQL-based database, and that they have online trainings though.

We use Blackbaud's Raiser's Edge NXT as our primary CRM system for all profile records. This includes both donors and prospects, as well as nonprofits, vendors, and any other entity we engage with.

Using Blackbaud's SKY-API with Raiser's Edge (RE) allows us to clone all RE data into a Postgres database, which gives us the ability to build complex analytics and reporting with ease. We track employee's engagement with donors and prospects, visualize relationships, and generate targeted communications based on complex criteria.

API / Programmatic interface for reporting, analytics and record management
UI - Clean, attractive presentation and good workflow
Well designed address management and validation

Cons

API coverage is limited - certain data is inaccessible for arduous to query (ex: rather that pulling all name format records, must query name format data one constituent/API call at a time.
Native reporting (ie, not using API calls) is limited.
Bulk data maintenance (imports, updates, etc) limited without use of API calls.

Likelihood to Recommend

Great for tracking constituent data for a fundraising organization. Fundraisers assigned to a 'Portfolio' of donors/prospects can work through a well crafted portfolio dashboard to quickly see gift activity, upcoming actions, and other views of their assigned donors. Clean integration with Blackbaud's "Online Giving" and merchant services solutions makes setting up online giving extremely simple.

Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT's pricing is based on "tiers" of total constituents tracked in the system, so it may make sense to only use it for tracking high-value constituents. Our organization has been using Raiser's Edge to track attributes about ALL organization's and entities we engage with, including thousands of nonprofits our donors choose to support. We now pay higher licensing fees to track many records that are of limited value to us. Make sure you have a clear idea of the types (and quantity) of constituents you will be tracking to ensure the additional cost is worth it.

Pros

Duplicate Records- specifically when a constituent signs up for an event, I find that the information does not seem to transfer well and causes duplication.
Prospect Research capabilities- lacking in this area.
Not being able to select more than one primary phone.
The text size in the program is atrocious! Please provide either a zoom function or ability to change the text size to a larger case. Laptops are already small. I am under 40 yrs of age and have a hard time seeing due to the small text size.

Likelihood to Recommend

Best suited for those who work in development and have a working knowledge of database systems. Colleagues who are less experienced is the use of the program are easily confused and have stated there are too many options in the program.
