There are several aspects of Desire2Learn that outweigh the benefits of using Blackboard. I find that the Desire2Learn system is a bit more user friendly and looks more up-to-date. However, the decision to renew systems is not up to me because the entire University uses the same system. Regardless, I think I would choose Desire2Learn over Blackboard because of its improved user interface.

There isn't another product in the niche of Blackboard that I am aware of or consider. I would like a smoother mobile integration and usage, but I don't think it compares.

I don't think that Blackboard gives users a great experience, though it is adequate. Users do not find it intuitive, at least from the feedback I receive. The customer support is not always good.

Our faculty recently reviewed a competing product and decided to stay with Blackboard, not only because they were used to it, but also because they were excited about some of the new features they would have access to. I doubt that this feeling will subside as we move forward with implementing the upgrades.

Blackboard is extremely easy to use and as stated before, I have not encountered any other platform that has the flexibility and ease of use as well as support tools that Blackboard has.

While price is always an issue in the K-12 arena, unless some LMS as good as Blackboard for less money comes along - we will likely continue to use Blackboard.
