The ease of setting up and configuring Boardable was also praised by several users.

Seamless Integration with Zoom: The integration with Zoom allows for seamless meeting creation without the need for separate logins, which has been highly liked by users. This feature eliminates any additional steps or complications when scheduling virtual meetings. Several reviewers specifically mentioned how this integration simplifies the compilation of records required by regulators and enhances the overall user experience.

Centralized Document Center: The document center in Boardable provides a centralized location for all organizational documents, improving transparency with board members. Multiple reviewers expressed their appreciation for being able to store recordings of prior meetings, board minutes, and notes from committee meetings in one place. This functionality has made it intuitive and easy to navigate for both administrators and trustees according to various users' feedback.

Confusing User Interface: Many users have expressed frustration with the user interface of Boardable, stating that it is confusing and makes it challenging to navigate and perform tasks efficiently. The complexity of the interface has caused some users to struggle with finding important features and understanding how to use them effectively.

Lack of Desired Features: Several reviewers have voiced their disappointment regarding the lack of certain desired features in Boardable. Users have specifically mentioned the absence of file integrations with platforms like Box.com, a need for a more streamlined voting history lookup process, and a desire for better organization of discussion threads within the software. These limitations have prevented some users from fully leveraging the potential benefits of Boardable.

Technical Issues with Virtual Meetings: A significant number of users have reported experiencing technical difficulties during virtual meetings on Boardable. These issues often manifest as freezing or lagging problems, which can disrupt communication and hinder productivity. As a result, many users resort to disabling their video feeds in order to improve performance and maintain smoother meeting experiences.

We use it for our complete volunteer platform/portal. We use a significant portion of the product to help with: Meetings - the product allows us to poll for best dates and times, schedule meetings, build agendas with board packets, and take minutes, and the best part is easily integrated with Zoom. The poll function allows us to conduct easy and secure voting for our board members. The document section allows us to have a central location for all corporate documents the Board needs to have access to.
  • Meeting Scheduling
  • Agenda and meeting packet building
  • Improved centralized communications
  • Meeting scheduling can be wonky with polling for a date
  • A lot of the most valuable features are at a higher price point beyond the basic package.
  • Opportunity to improve the minutes builder
Overall this is a solid board/volunteer portal. It allows staff and volunteers to have an all-in-one place for operations, votes, and meetings. It is also built to allow volunteers to operate without the need for staff to do the work. A committee chair needs to set up a meeting - no problem they can go in, poll committee members, set a date, and with the preset zoom integration establishes the meeting using the company's Zoom account. Tired of building huge board packets of materials with tabs and chapters? No problem the system allows you to build it easily with attachments. Then you don't kill trees to print and mail with the Board able to view the agenda with all attachments in order with a few taps. Overall very solid product and cheaper than many other board portal services. They have some things that can be better, but nothing that should keep someone from adopting the technology.
  • Ease of use
  • Board Agenda/packets
  • Meeting scheduling
  • Directory
  • Decreased staff time significantly on communicating with the Board/volunteers
  • Empowered volunteers to take the lead vs. depending on staff to do the work.
  • Provided a secure platform for voting
The main issue is this platform is designed and geared toward nonprofits vs. adapting a for-profit board portal. The second is the price point, while it has gone up significantly, is still in line with nonprofit budgets.

Boardable has coordinated the restructuring of our Board and made it easier for our Board to meet and become more engaged during the pandemic. We now see the value in using a management platform to keep us organized and productive. I highly recommend to non-profit Boards to consider using Boardable if their goal is to expand the engagement and effectiveness of their Board of Directors.
  • Organize and execute Board & Committee meetings through the "Meetings" which allows you to build your agenda, attach documents, create minutes, and send out a summary of the meeting once completed.
  • Provide a very versatile Document Center where you can archive all types of documents for current and future use.
  • Polls, Tasks, & Decision-making features. These tools allow for broadcasting to members at large or to committees important information to be acted upon. It also keeps a record of responses.
  • Reports--this is an area we are just beginning to appreciate since it provides overviews of board member engagement and progress made within committees and the board at large.
  • People Directory--an invaluable tool for orienting new board members to current members as well as allowing for board members to contact each other.
  • Goal Setting: this is a tool we are just starting to use. It allows for the tracking of progress for board projects and/or fundraising.
  • Spotlight bandwidth--our organization has a large board (26 members) and we encountered video issues at large meetings. In all fairness to Boardable, this was prior to the latest Spotlight upgrade as well as some of the issues had to do with users not following recommendations and/or not having a strong internet connection.
  • You cannot deposit completed minutes directly into the document center. As it stands, once a meeting's minutes are published the minutes stay with the meeting then are stored on the "Past" meeting page. It would be nice to have the option to save the minutes directly to the document center for that particular board mtg or committee meeting.
  • Sending notice of published meeting minutes to people who were not included in the original meeting. It would be ideal to allow all board members to receive published meeting notes to review who may not be associated with that group.
I spearheaded the adoption of Boardable after vetting 3 other Board management platforms and found Boardable to be the best fit for our Board of 26 members. Boardable provides great features for coordinating our efforts for being organized, reporting, and most of all, consolidated engagement. Boardable enables us to meet regularly through Spotlight, create agendas and use them to guide the meeting, take notes directly related to agenda items, create discussions outside meetings, and house all important documents. Most Board management platforms do all these things, however, Boardable is intuitive, provides tremendous support, and is very affordable for non-profits. Less suited scenarios would include boards with many members who are not well-versed in using digital platforms. Boardable is simple enough to learn. It just requires an openness to learn a new skill.
  • Agenda Building features--it organizes meetings and provides a quick turnaround for minute building and publishing.
  • Spotlight--is pretty robust for smaller group meetings and for larger meetings Boardable provides a zoom integration. This is a nice choice if your board is used to using zoom or is concerned about bandwidth issues.
  • Dashboard--allows a clear overview of your particular group interactions, upcoming meetings, and goals, and allows a box to post unique links or documents. We use it to post our strategic map, along with the agency's organizational chart, and other general lists.
  • Discussions--this is a great feature for generating and/or continuing discussion on pertinent topics that need further action.
  • Directory--I find this feature practical and handy for looking up contact info on board members and/or getting to know their background.
  • Boardable enabled our NP board to continue to meet during the pandemic and in the process helped us discover that we can accomplish more by using a digital platform to assimilate and store important documents, discussions, and tasks.
  • I don't know the exact cost savings we gained but from a practical perspective using Boardable has saved tons of paper-generated reports, emails, and time-consuming staff activities. Boardable's fees are reasonable and provide affordable tiers to meet your agency's needs.
  • I believe Boardable has taken our large board's engagement up a notch or two by providing the means by which board members can interact outside of in-person meetings.
I personally evaluated each of these products and found Boardable was the best fit for our needs. Plus, none of these products could match the price for the features we wanted. I actually met with Boardable users and was able to ask honest questions and was pleased by the feedback I received.

We have 5 staff (including the CEO) and 25 board members enrolled. All but 6 board members use boardable on a regular basis. Of the 6, 3 have disabilities.

  • Building a library of documents for present and future board activities.
  • Broadcasting announcements to members.
  • Engaging in discussions outside of meetings.
  • Learning more about board members through the directory.
  • Circulating documents prior to meetings to be reviewed.
  • Voting on minutes and/or issues without having to call a formal meeting.
  • Improve our use of the Minute Maker.
  • Continue to build our library of documents.
  • Create an executive board information folder for new key executive members to access as they come into the office.
  • Create an onboarding process for new members to orient them to board operations as well as how to use Boardable.
  • Take advantage of more features as members' adoption increases.
If it was solely up to me it would be a no-brainer, however, it has to be a board decision.

The subscription price was ideal for the number of features that fit our needs. Another good feature is that at the professional level we have unlimited guest capabilities which enable the non-tech-savvy members (who rarely use the platform anyway) to attend Boardable board meetings as a guest. There are limitations on access however these features are things they would not use anyway which offsets the cost of a full subscriber.
I wouldn't change a thing. Our agency's IT director and I met with each of the vendors to do a demo. I also did product interviews with agencies our size who use Boardable and felt that our evaluation was thorough and convincing.
  • Implemented in-house
Yes
The phases were by our design. We negotiated for a 1-month trial where we onboarded members in small groups via a spotlight meeting that acquainted them with basic operations. We were 75% successful with the members who were willing to do the onboarding. You can only lead people to the water...
Change management was a major issue with the implementation
  • It is important that the executive leadership supports and leads the way for adopting Boardable.
  • Not every board member is tech-savvy and willing to learn something new.
  • High-profile board members are not necessarily hands-on people and are willing to learn something new.
  • Be sure to make use of Boardable expectations clear and enforced in order to get the full board to use the product.
  • Use Spotlight and other features regularly so that members learn how to navigate faster.
  • People being unwilling to learn how to use Boardable
  • People not knowing how to set up their computer and email to receive notifications and to log in
  • People having outdated browsers and/or not being willing to use the downloaded app.
  • Mac and Safari users not being willing to use another browser or work within the Mac limitations.
Boardable provides ample videos, information, and support to enable new members to learn how to navigate the platform. However, not all members are motivated to learn a new software system. Lessons learned with onboarding new members is to do a Spotlight meeting with them that utilizes as many of the popular features our board uses so that they shorten their learning curve. As with anything new, "practice makes permanent!"
Boardable's support is outstanding. They respond quickly and are eager to find solutions to your issues. Additionally, their learning center is continually updated with videos and blog articles that are easy to access and use. Most of all, Boardable is very open to suggestions!
Yes, we purchased the premium level to get the support as well as to become acquainted with all the features in order to know which ones we could not function without.
Yes
Yes, Boardable's support listened, asked questions, met virtually with us, and worked as quickly as possible to rectify whatever issue we had. They also used our feedback in the development of upgrades. It was a win/win experience.
We had issues with Spotlight early on in our membership. Support did a few meetings with our IT personnel and provided resources as needed. Together we were able to figure out what to do and not-to-do for upcoming meetings with our large board meetings. (size=29)
I find the platform to be easy to use and intuitive. It does require a user to "use it" in order to find the best ways to navigate and experience the advantages of the features.
  • Log in-- plus choice of browser, desktop, or mobile app entry.
  • Dashboard.
  • Meetings--building an agenda, uploading documents, creating minutes, publishing meeting notes, etc.
  • Spotlight--for the most part. It does require reading some of the support documents and basically using it often to stay familiar with how it functions.
  • Document center--building your own filing systems for important documents.
  • Polls--being able to get feedback in an easy to set up manner.
  • Searching for past meetings-- the search feature is not as robust as it could be, but better still is the ability to direct the meeting to a location within the document center so that minutes and meeting documents can all be housed together.
  • Formatting the minute maker--you have to read about and experiment with the options when doing minutes.
  • Learning best case uses for setting up goals. I find it difficult to know how to know the best metrics to use when creating goals.
  • Spotlight--getting board members to follow directions and get to learn how to use spotlight to their advantage.
Yes
I don't use it often other than to receive notifications sent out via Boardable. Some of our board use it exclusively to attend meetings and depending on their phone either have an easy or glitchy experience.

We use Boardable as an important board management tool to schedule meetings, organize documents, start discussions, and maintain an up-to-date people directory. Boardable offers a ‘one-stop shop’ for all of the information we need and helps make board members more effective in their fiduciary roles for the Foundation. The Boardable tool has offered five key results for us: 1) time savings; 2) streamlined agenda building; 3) more accountability; 4) access anywhere; and 5) better virtual and in-person meetings.
  • Streamlined agenda building: Instead of spending time sending emails and attachments, I can easily build and share an Agenda with documents appended to specific agenda items. This keeps everyone organized and informed.
  • Accountability: I can see when board members log into the platform and keep track of who has read which content for increased transparency and accountability.
  • Real-time edits and updates: As things change or need to be added to an agenda, I can easily make edits and share these changes with board members. I can send them an email on the platform to remind them of new documents or information related to the board meeting.
  • We have created a board policy & governance manual and made it a meeting with agenda so we all have easy access to all that information. It would be amazing for Boardable to offer a policy document tool like it that's easier to manage, but this was their suggestion for setting it up for now.
  • Being able to add the time zone where the in-person will be held would be helpful rather than just where the person sets as their time zone.
Boardable is definitely worth the cost. It’s extremely valuable and there are new tools and updates being released all the time. Their staff reaches out for feedback and is easy to reach. It is a great resource for managing our board meetings and being effective, supportive, and interactive for our Trustees. I never want to waste our board members' time and Boardable helps us deliver an outstanding and engaging board experience.

We didn't look at other products. I used Boardable for another organization first (as its President) and was thoroughly impressed with the easy-to-use interface, the low cost, and the quick onboarding process. I introduced the platform to our Board Chairman who gave the green light to move forward in 2019, which was a great move to do before the pandemic and our board meeting became virtual for nearly 2 years.
Boardable is very user-friendly, easy to manage, and building agendas and setting up meetings is functionally easy.

Prior to signing up with Boardable, all Board-related documentation was being disseminated by email, creating a real security risk with the sensitive information contained within. Boardable provides us with a very cost-effective solution to eliminating the security concern while also providing us with the most important organizational tools required to manage board proceedings.
  • Scheduling
  • Document retention
  • Ease of use
  • Cost-effectiveness
  • Support responsiveness
  • Support is currently offered through a ticketing system, so it does sometimes require an understanding that there may be a delay in getting a response.
  • Security features in place are adequate, but I would like to see some form of higher security compliance, such as SOC II or ISO27001.
Well suited for any company of any size in need of an effective way to manage board proceedings without breaking the bank in the process.
  • Allows for a quicker turnaround in getting docs to board members.
  • Provides a one-stop location for all board proceedings and documents.
  • Pricing plans for getting up and running are easily among the best available with similar tools providers.
Less robust toolset than its competitors, but the tools available through Boardable should suffice for most users.
Very responsive, but only through a ticketing system at this time.
