BrightLocal has proven to be an invaluable tool for managing local business clients' marketing efforts. Users appreciate the comprehensive range of features, including tracking Google My Business, web analytics, citations, online reviews, and keyword rankings. With the citation tracking feature, users can easily identify where they have citations and where they need to create or correct them. The reputation manager feature allows for efficient monitoring of online reviews across multiple platforms. Additionally, BrightLocal's storage of 18 months of historical data for Google My Business is a significant advantage compared to Google's limited three-month data retention.

The ability to generate customizable reports is highly valued by users. Whether it's creating printable PDF reports or web-based reports via custom links, BrightLocal streamlines the reporting process. This is particularly beneficial when using BrightLocal on a client-by-client basis, allowing account management teams to provide detailed insights and analysis for each client's local SEO performance. Moreover, BrightLocal's citation building service is highly regarded for providing quality citations at a reasonable price.

Users also appreciate the educational materials offered by BrightLocal that aid in explaining concepts to clients. It consolidates data from various sources, allowing users to monitor reviews, website ranking, and information accuracy on third-party sites all in one place. Furthermore, BrightLocal's user-friendly online client dashboards receive positive feedback from clients who find them easy to navigate and understand.

Overall, BrightLocal is widely used for managing local SEO for digital marketing clients and offers a valuable toolset that saves time and consolidates valuable resources. Whether it's updating online directories or showcasing expertise through automated reports and site audits, BrightLocal offers a variety of features that fulfill the needs of its users.

Users of Bright Local have made several recommendations based on their experiences with the product. The three most common recommendations are:

  1. Take the time to review competitors and understand the features of Bright Local. This allows users to better appreciate the affordability of Bright Local compared to similar services.

  2. Implement citation campaigns oneself rather than relying on phone support from the Bright Local team. This approach allows for greater control and efficiency in managing local SEO efforts.

  3. Attend webinars and take advantage of the 14-day trial to fully understand and utilize all features of Bright Local. Users highly recommend utilizing these resources as a way to gain in-depth knowledge about how to get the most out of the platform.

Overall, users find Bright Local to be a valuable tool for managing and reporting on local SEO efforts, particularly for micro and small businesses. They appreciate its comprehensive features, ability to consolidate reporting, and track progress effectively. Companies can't remove reviews or game the system. Here's why

Thryv reached out to me about 3 weeks before signing up with BrightLocal. While all of their features were impressive, there were only about 3 features that I would have used. Thryv wanted $200 per month for their service, which I found to be way overpriced for what I was wanting to use it for. I selected BrightLocal because it had the features I wanted at a lower price and then add ons. After using BrightLocal for a week and speaking with Becki, a customer service executive, I have discovered more features that I would use on BrightLocal than on Thryv.

The price was cheaper at BrightLocal, although I have had to pay extra for things, but I like the flexibility that an al cart type program brings. I would say that Synup is easier to use and much simpler. Yext is more expensive and requires constant enrollment, but maybe the most comprehensive.

If you are a smaller business not looking to spend much this is the perfect solution for you. However, if you are a larger company running SEO campaigns for clients with multiple locations I would recommend a higher-end program. BrightLocal does not offer on-page ideas or many other tools found in other programs that are useful for national or cross-country campaigns.

We used to use RavenTools but left several years ago as we needed a software platform more geared towards Local SEO, which is exactly what BrightLocal specializes in. Both of these have multiple features and great reporting options, but in the end, BrightLocal offered more features for Local SEO and also offered better reporting for clients as the reports were very easy to read and understand.

BrightLocal was the best value I found for local SEO research and reporting features at a price that worked for a startup agency. The features are surprisingly robust for the price point, and I was able to service multiple clients from my account.

I like both of these SEO tools. Working in agency it was nice because I had access to both. At the current company I work at I use SpyFu because our focus is on key words more than local SEO. I would be happy to try out BrightLocal again in the future sometime though

  • Yext
We have used Yext in the past for our clients. The biggest reason why BrightLocal is better than Yext is that you don't lose the citations after you cancel. The client is purchasing the citations for life. With Yext, when you cancel, your citations all revert to the old, incorrect information. Also, BrightLocal has a greater amount of available citations than Yext.

BrightLocal's local ranking reports are the best ones out there. For everything else, they're just "similar" to the others and don't stand out from them. BrightLocal's online client report dashboards are also nice and not matched by the competition.

Brightlocal is a well established company with a good reputation and after using them for over 15 locations I can safely say it was an easy and safe investment for my marketing efforts. Compared to other alternatives Brightlocal gives you the flexibility to spend on specific sites and directories and once those citations are created they are YOURS, you do not lose them once you stop paying Brightlocal.
