If you invest a lot in content marketing, then you need a tool like Buzzsumo. Buzzsumo is probably the best tool out there to get you accurate social share data, and it's an incredible research tool to find new keywords and topics.

But if you're just casually posting a few posts and not too concerned about promoting, it's probably not worth paying for it.

Buzzsumo is perfect for content research, monitoring brand mentions and for monitoring backlinks. It can be used for prospecting media contacts, however I prefer using other platforms for that type of work.

It mainly for content research. It greatly helps us in generating new content ideas for our blog page and social media sites. Also helps in competitor analysis. And gives us data insights about various social media pages on their performance regarding a particular topic. Helps in trend analysis. Gives content based on country trends.

It's well suited for marketing agencies of all sizes who need to quickly monitor the placements of their clients in the media. It's helpful to professional content creators to see how existing content and topics are performing online.

It's perhaps less appropriate for a single freelance user with a limited budget who could do much of that work for free online, albeit with far greater consumption of their most valuable resource - time.

I will tell you that it is as simple as creating new content from others that have already been published and have a certain authority.

As you know, we do not always come up with great ideas for any topic and, above all, no matter how great the ideas are, in the age of social networks, they will rarely be novel. Consequently, most of us create new materials based on various sources, which is exactly where the tool to which I have dedicated this review appears: Buzzsumo.

Because it guarantees that these sources have been shared - and therefore valued - by users who can become your potential audience. In other words, it is about looking for what they like the most to give them an improved version and conquer them.

I would definitely recommend this tool for the influencer portion to any business that wants to find and work with influencers in a specific niche. It saves you a lot of time by being able to see all the influencers in a niche.

Buzzsumo is well suited for content marketing and social teams that want to know what topics/keywords are resonating most on social media. It helps to spark new ideas and to give a good indication of what topics are currently hot on social media. From an influencer marketing standpoint, it allows you to see which influencers are sharing or not sharing the content.

Buzzsumo is particularly helpful for entry/mid-level marketers that need a good starter tool for the ideation phase. The tool isn't quite as useful, nor does it get as much use, from our more seasoned marketers. I attribute this to a relatively basic set of features. I'd like to see them come out with some new ones for more of our veteran marketers.

Buzzsumo is very good for our specific use case to track social shares, and I also like the Chrome extension. But if you need it for influencers or other content strategy work, it's not the best tool. For PR, we are looking at switching away for this tool.

If you're looking to save time, Buzzsumo is for you. In SEO we know there are many free ways to reach your goal but they require a lot of time and deep knowledge of the situation. If the team is looking to save money while having a lot of time to complete their tasks, go ahead. Otherwise, Buzzsumo is perfect.

Pros
  • The real-time data unmatched and Buzzsumo is continually improving their tools and dashboards every year (we've noticed that their team listens to suggestions and often implements new features based on how our industry is evolving).
Cons
  • The price is a little steep for us. We are a small advertising agency and have a lot of tools to consider to improve our efficiency. We just wish it was a little less expensive.

Buzzsumo is ideal to help you not only overcome your writer's block and find content ideas to write about, but also find content ideas that have proven to be popular. That way you know you are writing about something that people care about.

Also, once you write that content piece you can find influencers and reach out to them in order to share your content.

It can be good to find content that gets backlinks, but you might want to combine it with an SEO tool in order to get more backlink data.

BuzzSumo is really great to identify hot topics and trending ideas that we use to develop our social media content. What's the point in writing something if no one cares about that topic? By pre-informing our content with research from BuzzSumo we make sure that all of our posts have really high engagement!

I think that BuzzSumo is perfect for large B2C companies. However, B2B and small businesses may have trouble getting their money's worth. For example, BuzzSumo's SEO features and the social media insights don't always apply during the buyer journey for B2B businesses because we often present our content to clients directly -- especially for larger companies. It wouldn't make sense to create content that attracts online visitors if you plan to present the content during a video or in-person meeting. Lastly, the pricing could make it difficult for small businesses, non-profits, etc. to use the platform.

It is a great way to monitor what is being liked, shared, linked to and talked about. So if you want your social media and content teams to have an edge over competitors that don't use a service like this, it is a must-have. It also saves time and effort with our content efforts since it gives us many topic ideas.

If you are looking for an influencer, Buzzsumo is epic. It is also epic if you want to have ideas for content creation. The only thing that I would have against it is that you get to a certain point and then get asked for money. Ask up front, that is all I would say. I mind paying, just tell me up front.
