I have been using Chrome Remote Desktop personally to control my personal computer from the comfort of my phone. We are also using Chrome Remote Desktop at work to coordinate work with colleagues and seek technical assistance remotely. It's easy to install and easier to use. You can use it in two ways: Remote Assistance for user to user screen sharing and "My Computers" to seamlessly connect to your devices from anywhere in the world. That's why I love Chrome Remote Desktop so much.
  • It's very easy to connect to your computers. All you have to do is make sure you are logged in with your Google account on all of your devices.
  • It has good remote control options like print screen or power-off remotely.
  • I haven't faced any lag while remotely connecting to devices at work.
  • I have not really faced any issues using Chrome Remote Desktop. I can't wake my sleeping computer from my phone, which I kind of understand but would have been a good feature to have.
Chrome Remote Desktop is very good for seeking remote assistance among colleagues. Make sure you don't leave your device unattended while sharing access. You can also use it to control your devices from one another. I love to be able to control my computer from the comfort of my phone.

  • It is super convenient to use. It doesn't require any specialized training on how to use this product.
  • It is very cost effective compared to pricier tools we were using in the past.
TeamViewer is good but it won't let you connect to your devices as seamlessly as Chrome Remote Desktop does. Also, TeamViewer is pricey. Some of our non-technical users faced slight challenges learning on how to operate TeamViewer, which definitely is not the case ever since we started to use Chrome Remote Desktop.
  • Connecting to your devices from anywhere in the world
  • Accessing a remote device for remote assistance.
  • If you want to share file, you will have to upload it on Google Drive to access it from local device. There is no direct file transfer between devices. I am personally okay with it though.
Yes
Amazing! I love the mobile interface.
I would rarely give a 10 for usability to any tool, but Chrome Remote Desktop doesn't deserves 9 either :)
I find all options easy to understand. I don't have to work my brain to understand how things work when using Chrome Remote Desktop.

Chrome Remote Desktop is one of the solutions we offer for connecting to workstations from our new chomebooks. If it ends up working out, we could potentially replace a large portion of our laptop fleet with cheaper chromebooks. We've found a large number of users only use thier laptops to remote into their desktops.
  • Setup is simple. Install the app, log in, choose a pin. You're good to go.
  • Performance is fast. I can even stream games fairly well.
  • The connections have been pretty stable. No serious issues.
  • The session can be seen on the screen of the workstation. Could be a privacy issue. It DOESN'T work like traditional RDP, much closer to a screen sharing support session.
  • There is no built in File Transfer. Its not a deal breaker, but definitely an annoyance.
Really the largest thing is that it shows exactly what you're doing on the screen of the workstation. Great for remote sessions to help someone, terrible for remoting into your own computer to get work done.

  • Its helped us explore options for changing over expensive laptops to inexpensive Chromebooks.
  • Chrome RDP and Citrix
Still up in the air about which solution is best. We're actually leaning towards Windows RDP via Citrix session right now. It is secure, fast, and easy.

We're all within IT for now. We're still piloting Chromebooks on campus
We have no support for Chrome Remote Desktop at this time
  • Remote access
  • If Chromebooks can have stable and reliable remote program, we can replace a large portion of our laptop fleet with them
I like it for the most part. I'm still trying to find a way around the screen issues. It shouldn't show what I'm doing on my remote computer while I'm connected unless I specify that.

We're still evaluating. Its a free product with no commitment. Its simple to switch.

Change management was minimal
Its as simple as an app. No change management required.
  • People forgetting their PIN
None, its quick and easy
We don't use their support
No
We've never need Good Support for this. Can't beat that.
  • Connecting is one click after initial setup, works well
  • I like the pin system for connecting from new devices
  • no file transfer is a killer
Yes, but I don't use it
Still, managing the screen is annoying. Don't show what I'm doing on my remote computer. Also annoying if you're remoting into a computer with 2 monitors.
