DEAR Systems is used within my business as a tool to manage inventory of all inputs and finished goods. Additionally, it is a helpful tool to generate production modules, forecast production requirements and track production capacity. The software is also used to generate and send electronic invoices and to synch stock levels with our online store.
  • Inventory tracking
  • Invoicing
  • Ecommerce synch
  • More variable production modules
  • Ecommerce synch can be improved
  • Lower tier pricing
The production module systems that is offered by DEAR Systems is very good but a criticism is that it is tailored to non-variable production e.g., assembling a bike. If the output is variable e.g., dehydrating then the system is a bit challenging to use and can lead to inaccurate stock levels.

Point of sale integration
  • Improved reporting for production
  • Reduced invoicing admin
  • Better cogs reporting
DEAR Systems is much better software compared to Xero. The inventory tracking within Xero doesn't record batch dates and isn't really capable of production modules. Additionally, Xero doesn't have pricing tiers within invoicing, which is a very helpful feature offered by DEAR Systems. If a business has any level of complexity than DEAR Systems is a significantly more capable software.

We use DEAR Inventory across the whole organisation. It help us manage inventory, stock control, production, reconciliations, website sales etc.
  • Batch Number Tracking
  • Manufacturing
  • Intergrations
  • Pricing increase 400% this year
  • Down Time is unacceptable, dedicated server option cost £30k per year
  • Lots of minor issues across the board.
The software was well suited to small businesses who manufacture and sell on line and who have to manage batch codes however they are now pricing themselves out of the market. Customer service is terrible.
  • We have been using for so long it's impossible to say.
  • Dear cost us £900 last year but we have had to employ a part time person to help run it.

It is being used mostly by two departments -- Production and Accounting, although other departments occasionally access it.

The down time is unacceptable within DEAR -- having it gone down for 2 hours unannounced last weekend causing some overtime and unhappy campers. It's really got the worst up-time of any website I've ever seen. Not only that, it has a very glitchy and buggy interface that takes ages to load on the most menial tasks.

  • Glitchiness
I think it's better suited for small businesses and those looking to change inventory in the future.
  • Lost company time
  • Effective inventory management
  • Mostly does the job it's supposed to
Terrible support, absolutely useless for anything more major than a simple navigational problem. They always provide meaningless responses that don't really address the issue such as, "our engineering department is working on the issue" or "we're working on some optimisation". These responses would be fine if anything actually resulted from them, but the same errors and problems have existed for 4 years so I don't believe they really amount to anything. In addition, they're quite pushy for me to "close your ticket" so it can be marked as resolved, but my issue hasn't been resolved. I don't exactly want to leave my ticket open for several months, but they send me consistent reminders to close the ticket which is obnoxious especially since their resolution was "our engineering department will work on it".

We have clients using DEAR Inventory to manage large volumes of drop shipments and shipments from [their] own warehouse. Drop shipping mechanics are excellent, combined with procurement via purchase orders in a multi-currency and multi-warehouse environment. The ability to clone or create a matrix of, for example, products by colour and size are excellent features. We are 100% Xero Accountants - Silver Partners and we find the integration to Xero, 100% robust and reliable. Also, the visibility of data transfer status is very clear.
  • Xero Online Accounting Integration - 100% reliable
  • Drop Shipment combined with Own Warehouse Shipment Processing is a dream
  • Support - Really efficient dealing with technical issues and more generic issues equally well
  • Financial control of delivery notes and purchase invoices provides excellent data integrity
  • Easily add new cost variables such as shipping costs, managed easily
  • Integration to UK shipping channels like Royal Mail
  • Period locking would add greater integrity
  • Reporting could be improved on
  • Interface could be cleaner
DEAR is excellent at integration from Amazon. DEAR is too fiddly when receiving part shipments. Conversion of units from square metres to Square feet is a simply programming modification. Imagine you stock in imperial but customer orders in metric. How easy it would be for the software to manage this? I would also like to see the ability to buy in packs and sell singularly. It seems this is possible, but it means using the assembly/disassembly which is a skill set in itself.
  • We have secured new clients with DEAR and they have been delighted with it.
  • We have failed to secure new clients when we have identified where DEAR will not work for that specific client.
  • The alternatives on the market, like Unleashed, often don't meet the clients need either.
  • DEAR does what it says on the tin. We see great feedback from our peers.
  • Unleashed, I found support poor (but over two years ago).
  • Linnworks - No Xero integration by Xero recommended API and very expensive by other third party SAP Business 1 is in a different league, but the cost is also [expensive].

  • Financial Control
  • Integration
  • Streamlined solutions
  • New clients seeking support and implementation
It does what it says on the tin.
