How Cisco Aironet 1500 Series Access Points (discontinued) Differs From Its Competitors

Time to Value

Once the product was delivered to the customer, it took us about 10 days to install and wire 20 APs outside a factory and 5 days to finish the optimization of the APs. In my opinion, it was quite fast in terms of time as compared to other vendors' wifi implementations it took us more days to do …

Cisco Aironet Enhancements

Improvement and a modular design are extremely important in a fast-moving area like the wireless technology really is. The theoretical maximum throughput is ever growing, so it really shouldn't be the only selling factor in a radio product. Other factors must be continuously refined as well, which …

Cisco Aironet 1560 Series
I installed the external series of the Cisco Aironet 1560 in a factory, as they needed wifi coverage to be able to use the barcode readers through the wifi network for the management of stock control of the merchandise. I was very surprised by the quality of the outdoor box, they are still working without any problems today after a year.
  • A large amount of product documentation for installation and even administration is a big plus
  • The coverage radius is very good
  • The power consumption is very low with full power and the external AP is only 25 watts.
  • 11ax support
At the beginning of the implementation, we had a lot of problems with the barcode readers because of the change of AP coverage areas. Thanks to the software that has the controllers and cleanaire features and the power management and channel change, we were able to control and improve the problem we had when the operations moved and changed coverage zones.
The software of the Cisco Aironet 1560 is highly scalable, the software is very powerful so that the APs can be customized to the maximum and achieve the best performance of the network at the wifi level. The use of it is very easy for people with low knowledge.
Once the product was delivered to the customer, it took us about 10 days to install and wire 20 APs outside a factory and 5 days to finish the optimization of the APs. In my opinion, it was quite fast in terms of time as compared to other vendors' wifi implementations it took us more days to do something like this.

These access points are really amazing. They are used by all departments of the organization and also for guests who access from a login portal. The company has several houses spread over a large lot and we have several 1552 access points installed on poles to provide wireless internet in all areas of the company's coverage. All internal and external areas have access to wireless internet with the help of this equipment. This is important due to the collection of bar codes with RFID.
  • Access points protected against lightning, rain, and fog.
  • Controlled and managed by central WLAN controller.
  • Elegant and beautiful design.
  • Cisco support and warranty very effectively.
  • It does not work on the 802.11ac protocol.
  • I no longer see any technical defects or negative points.
Cisco 1550 APs are installed outdoors, in the company's courtyard. They are connected to posts and some connected to a mesh network. APs are external models and have protection against rain, snow, fog, winds. So far, we have had no technical problems with these models. I recommend it because they are very efficient, with great performance and excellent warranty and technical support.

The Cisco Aironet 1550 Series Access Point is a great choice for small companies to provide internet access in their headquarters or secure locations/hazardous locations. Currently, we are using it in our secure server room where only a few limited people have access to and our outdoor lounge which is prone to weather wear/tear and also wildlife. This is a very useful and heavy-duty router in hazardous/outdoor locations in corporate locations. A business problem that it addresses is the weight and the price.
  • Heavy-duty
  • Weather resistant
  • Good for hazardous locations
  • Easy to install
  • Very heavy
  • Price is a bit too high for its value
  • Configuration is harder than expected
Cisco Aironet 1550 Series Access Points is very useful for outdoor locations that are more exposed to the wilderness or the weather, which provides uninterrupted wifi access during high winds and bad weather. It also is useful for hazardous locations that are prone to danger or wildlife. Unfortunately, it would not be appropriate to get a Cisco Aironet 1550 Series Access Point if it is only needed for basic wifi use, or indoor use, as the extra features and price would not be necessary.

Cisco Aironet 1560 Series
Our Cisco [Aironet 1560 Series] Access Points are being used across the whole organization to increase the range of our wifi system. It allows us to provide coverage to the entire building as well as outside. The outer shell makes it more resistant to the elements, and the internal antenna makes it discreet and unobtrusive.
  • Good housing
  • Internal antennas
  • Low power consumption
  • Better colorways
  • Antennas are an eyesore
[Cisco Aironet 1560 Series Access Points are] not great for inside the office, it makes the office look ugly. It's antennas are large an annoying to look at, and the color of the shell doesn't make it any better. Its great outside as the housing is very solid and provides good coverage. With an internal antenna, it is somewhat manageable in an office, but it is best suited for outdoor use.
The Cisco Aironet 1560 Series Access Points have fairly flexible and scalable software, and it's not too difficult to add more access points. The software is very able and multiple departments can easily take advantage of the access points. The only downside is that the speeds are not as high as it could be.
Getting the Cisco Aironet 1560 Series Access Points up and running was not too difficult, and overall a smooth experience. The installation process took just under a day. After installing the Cisco Aironet 1560 Series Access Points, we noticed instant results. The coverage was excellent and much better than before in outdoor locations.

Cisco Aironet 1570 Series
The 1570 are used mainly to provide outdoor coverage around the campus area where people usually walk or sit. They cover almost 90% of the research building outdoor areas and some of the facilities (restaurants, gyms, recreational clubs).
  • Outdoor coverage.
  • Work-group Bridge.
  • Point to point.
  • Internal Antenna.
Due to its software, it can fit in any outdoor deployment or requirement. It has POE Out port, Various Antenna selection, various powering option, GPS, Industrial rigid design (coming from a very hot and humid area), SFP compatible. You can deploy this AP nearly on any use case you face, I have a successful deployment of 400m distance between two of them as a MESH and it has been running fine for the past 2 years on the beach, it's also providing wired connection to clients on the MESH side. Some other use case is a WGB connected to a AirQuality sensor that has been up since day 1, with no problems whatsoever.
Initially I had a problem with the regulatory and channel selection, it was a bug on the AP as it was fairly new, solved by TAC on engineering release, and since then it has been performing flawlessly.
Whenever I get a new use case, I find 1570 solves it with no problem.

Cisco Aironet 1540 Series
At one of our locations, we are using the Aironet Access Points throughout the buildings. We are situated in multiple old building in the same street but we managed to create a wireless network so roaming all the buildings is possible. This makes working on the wireless network a snap.
  • Good coverage after detailed preparation.
  • speed is good.
  • At one point we did have stability issues on some devices but that was solved by rebooting. Strangely most devices than work for months.
  • Price is a bit high.
If you want an enterprise wireless network Cisco might not be the de-facto standard (as they are in wired networking equipment) but they are a strong contender. If you are a small company Cisco might not be the first to go to, but definitely give it a good look. Prepare by doing some measurements in your building.
I cannot say for sure with hard metrics that we benefited from it, but I am sure the hardware innovations are good.

Cisco Aironet 1540 Series
As corporate users we prefer wireless access as the form of network connectivity due to its convenience. Wireless should not slow down users' day-to-day work, but should enable a high-performance experience - Aironet 1542D gives all of these. We're using Aironet 1542D in our department in the provincial city. The signal strength is awesome. It serves about 150 persons in a good way. Easy to deploy package, low power consumption.

  • Stability
  • Signal strength
  • Power Consumption
  • Price
  • 1 year limited warranty
  • Login simplicity
It's great for a big department, if you're small - use something different, Cisco has many great solutions
Throughoutput is improved especially for legacy devices.
CleanAir allows automatically correct the situation - change channel (in case of some connection errors)
Everything clear and easy to use

Cisco Aironet 1560 Series
The Cisco Aironet 1560 Series Outdoor Access Point comes in a very robust and rugged housing. This means that we can deploy them directly into our wind turbine towers, without installing them inside an expensive outer casing. One AP at the transition piece in the bottom of the tower and one at the top, in the nacelle, is usually enough for full coverage. This provides excellent WiFi conditions to support our on-site technicians.
  • Rugged housing and very robust design.
  • Two different models.
  • One with internal antennas only (1562I) and another model with external antennas as an option (1562E)
  • PoE with very low power consumption
  • Excellent temperature range (-40 to 65 degrees celsious
  • A bracket for magnet mounting would be a nice feature.
  • White colour option.
  • 11ax support
In a rough outside environment - even offshore installation. Combined with a wireless LAN controller installation and deployment is a very smooth experience. This Access Point isn't suitable for installation in an office environment since the housing is very bulky and military gray colored. The CleanAir feature enables excellent coverage in locations with very high channel density and even radio noise.
When we utilize Cisco AP's in our offshore facilities and substations they are often installed inside technical areas with a very high density of radio noise, coming from other telecom systems, generators and radio equipment. Due to ClearAir we never seem to have coverage problems, expecially when using models with external antennas.
