The solution is great, it has incredible features, but when activating all Firepower services on the appliance, the ASA suffers from a performance degradation and is slower to process the information and access the management settings. That is why it is important to correctly size the equipment to avoid this type of problem.

Cisco ASA 5500-X [with FirePOWER Services] handles the multi-layered attacks with its threat prevention techniques, but it lack when it comes to URL traffic filtering and gives so false responses. Also, I have seen many times Automatic failover of links do not happens in Site to Site VPN use case if VPN is configured with both the links.

No doubt, Cisco FirePOWER is a very good product but sometimes when you compare features like application control and content control you will face lots of issues. The main advantage of FirePOWER is advanced IPS and advanced malware protection.

Cisco ASA 5500-X with FirePOWER is very good for a middle-sized organization and you will not face any issue deployment in the existing network. But, GUI is not good so you have to go with CLI for fast work. The main advantage of Cisco ASA 5500-X with FirePOWER is the technical support and lots of easy documentation and training videos for implementation and configuration. URL filtering is also not the best because it syncs with the bright cloud website. Sometimes, URLs detected in the wrong category.

Cisco ASA 5500-X with FirePOWER comes with layered security which prevents gen-6 attacks. It has the smooth link failover [so] if the primary link is down, ]the] user won't feel any latency or network disconnections. In High Availability mode, it does the device failover automatically in case of [the] primary device going down. Configuring and using remote VPN and Site to Site VPN using latest encryption/hashing method is available.

According to me, Cisco FirePOWER is a great product but sometimes we face the issue with web filtering. Lots of URLs are in wrong categories. Cisco should work on this. But AMP and new feature Sandboxing is one of the best products and provides the best security and also endpoint security.

This is for the most part an excellent and reliable device. The only negatives have been a worldwide recall on the device which took Cisco quite a while to get around to sending us a replacement. One other thing that has been frustrating is our internet connection dropping out due to something with this ASA rebooting as it remedies the problem. Since this occurs randomly, Cisco support has been unable to determine the cause thus far.

[Cisco ASA 5500-X with FirePOWER Services] is really powerful at looking at attacks from multiple points. The updates come from the Talos group which is constantly adding new threat updates to the devices. This does give me some peace of mind that we are being protected from the newest viruses. The users who sit behind the firewall have no had any issues with the ASA's performance for general connectivity. If an outside device tries to get in they are blocked without much of an issue. The internal users who sit behind the firewall have no noted any performance issues over the years. I think if you heavily use the firepower services on the box you can tax it pretty hard and that will affect performance. When using the interfaces of the firepower you can watch it struggle sometimes. ASDM doesn't seem to be affected by it as much but when using IDS/IPS you can see performance go down a bit. It's still usable but you can tell it was not designed to handle the most modern engines.

There are a lot of different ASA models, and you could choose the right model based on your needs--starting from 125 Mbps NGFW and 50K connections and up to 1.25 Gbps NGFW with 1 M connections.
