We have 6x Virtual WLCs to manage stores APs and 1x WLC to manage HQs APs. We use then to manage APs, troubleshooting wifi problems, check the health of different connections and so on. This new model of wlcs come with a friendly interface and easy to use.

When deploying Cisco Wireless Access Points that are running wifi 6, it is best to upgrade to a Cisco Catalyst 9800 Series Wireless Controller. This way all devices are natively running ios-xe instead of mix and matching aire os controller or devices.

For this specific product. It's pretty well suited for management of access points for not a huge campus, I would say for this specific one that I have. But I mean it can manage up to 5,000 access points. So it's a great product. Less appropriate would probably be really massive for the product that I own. The one, that version of it for what I have, I wouldn't say use it for something that's like this mega corporation, huge ginormous corporation because you need the higher end model of what I have. But in general it fits my needs, it fits what we need. It's the capabilities, but there's faster and better ones that I could have got if I needed it.

When we do upgrades, we upgrade access points within the dorms or things where we're pushing out a lot of new hardware. I really like the ability to go in, select all of these devices, give them the appropriate tags and things of that nature. As far as rooms for improvement, sometimes the UI can be sluggish and unresponsive. And also we do tend to have issues with software updates, firmware updates. Just recently a couple of weeks ago we had three access points out of around 3,900 that was causing the entire upgrade to fail, so small things like that.

Cisco Catalyst 9800 Series Wireless Controllers are well suited for bigger deployments were an on-premise controller is necessary and a cloud management is not possible. The management possibilities are endless; cli, gui, Cisco Calayst Controller Center or Monitoring over Meraki dashboard, you name it, you got it. The wide range of old and new supported Access Point models makes it a very flexible deployment option.

CIsco Catalyst 9800 Series Controllers shoud work fine in any business scenario. Since the small company who treat each access point individually or the medium companies that needs to centralize wifi management. If you want to manager the wifi network with reliability and confiability, you should get to Cisco 9800 wireless controller.

If we are thinking about replacing old Cisco AireOS controllers with a new technology, we can only choose Cisco Catalyst 9800 Series Wireless Controllers. Configuration based on Profiles and SiteTag is convenient and easier compared to the previous configuration. You can see that the entire controller has been designed from scratch. Support for new AccessPoints in Wifi 6 offers great possibilities.

Handles upwards of 200 APs. Stress tested the APs and they worked really well. Works really well on a layer 2 environment with locations throughout the state. Doesn't need as many APs as the 9500 series Wireless Lan Controller.
