Meraki MR - Wireless Simplified

Score 10 out of 10

Meraki MR APs are my organization's primary solution for providing wireless to our various office and sites. Because all configurations are done in the cloud, there is no need for the locations to require a VPN tunnel back to the CORP office for the APs to work. This allows us to deploy our wireless network almost any where as long as there is internet connectivity.
  • Easy configuration.
  • Zero touch deployment.
  • Deployment flexibility.
  • Deeper configuration options.
  • Per device licensing simplification.
  • More detailed metrics on channel utilization.
The Meraki MR series simplifies the configuration for both the typical consumer and business. Smaller businesses will benefit greatly as it is possible to configure and administer the wireless network without needing to contract or hire dedicated IT support. There Meraki APs are also capable to self determining the best wireless channels to be on, further simplifying the overall wireless setup.

Cisco Meraki MR Series - Great for schools

Score 8 out of 10

We are a school district with about 6,600 students in 9 buildings and various other buildings. We have almost 600 Meraki APs throughout the district. The Cisco Meraki MR Series is easy to manage and has performed well for us overall. We are a 1:1 district, so almost all of the 6,600 students have devices that access the internet over wireless, so having good wireless is critical.
  • Easy management. Tag-based policies and SSID broadcasts make changing things a breeze.
  • Easy installation. All APs come with clips to mount them to ceiling tile brackets and are easily installed and upgraded.
  • Firmware is sometimes problematic--seems like firmware is in beta forever before being released.
  • Some features are hidden and can only be turned on/made visible with a call to tech support.
We think Cisco Meraki MR Series is well suited to large installations like schools such as ours. We don't really have much more, if any, work to do with 600 APs than when we only had 200, and as we get ready to open up another school with another 100 APs, we don't foresee much more work. Once they are provisioned and added to the "network", they just need to be plugged in.

I'm not sure I have a scenario where they wouldn't be suited. Maybe if all your other network equipment was another brand, and that brand also had APs, then it might make more sense to go with them, but otherwise, Meraki fits in pretty much anywhere.

Revolutionary LAN with Cisco Meraki Switches

We are using MR in our corporate and branch offices to centralize the administration and visibility of network and users behavior. Also, we have hospitality clients who have chosen MR in each guest room to minimize the cabling inside rooms while still delivering all the services they need: WiFi, wired connectivity, IP Telephony, IP TV and security system (panic bottom, geofence, etc)
  • MR allows administrator to get Layer 7 capabilities to ensure user’s secure connectivity.
  • MR activates BLE radius to get the most visibility of customer behavior and integration of other functions.
  • The activation of the licenses should not be right after the order. It would be great if users could activate licenses when they are really going to use the equipment.
  • Meraki could add more PoE ports in MR30H.
I prefer to specify where Cisco Meraki MR is recommended because is a great solution in terms of functionality, development, connectivity, administrations, etc. In my case this solution is the best for hotels and big resorts. Meraki has a lot of models which cover you in each space of the hotel (indoor, outdoor, high density, etc). Meraki has a special model for hotels, MR30H. GPON has a solution that permits us to deliver services in the rooms only through a single cable (fiber). With MR30H you only will use a single cable from the IDF to each room. So you get: less power consumption, more space in rack, less switches port used and a best in-room experience.

We use Cisco Meraki MR Series access points across our school district for all wireless access. It gives us end to end wireless connectivity for all our district needs.
  • Ease of use- The platform is effortless to configure and manage.
  • It is very scalable, easy to add more to the system.
  • Cloud-based, so there is no need for an onsite controller.
  • Not as robust in the configuration as some other providers
  • Logs are not as detailed as they could be
  • Sometimes need support to help troubleshoot issues because of lack of logs.
If you are looking for a reliable solution that is easy to manage, then Cisco Meraki MR Series is an excellent choice. If you are looking for something with more detailed granular and specific configurations, it may not be the best.

Meraki MR - The mister in APs

We have implemented the MR42 APs in our main office. The solution has provided exactly what we needed for our company. We were able to implement end user authentication via Radius, and have control of access for guest users.
  • Ease of configuration.
  • Ease of deployment.
  • For guest user access, I wish there was a simpler way to only require the guest to enter an email address to register their connection. There are too many steps to accomplish that.
Meraki will work in any environment. I have successful deployed MR APs in offices, warehouses, and outdoors in very hot and cold areas in the country. When planned and deployed correctly, it's a solution you can almost set and forget. I say almost because you always need to make sure it's up and running, but it's something you would not have to manage 24 hours a day.

Easy to manage from anywhere

The Cisco Meraki MR Series are used in my organization to give wifi access to the employees and the company guests. The connection is very good, simple and quick. We have many ways to authenticate the user for each kind of profile we need. The administration is very easy and simple, and we can make any change from any place with internet access.
  • Cloud management.
  • Easy configuration.
  • Not enough logs for troubleshooting.
  • If we have an internet problem, we can't resolve any configuration problem.
Cisco Meraki MR Series is well suited for a branch office, because the cloud administration, is very simple to make any change without going to the branch office, from any place in the world only having internet access.
In scenarios with some cloud regulation It can bee used or when we need to resolve problems and there is no internet connection.

Best Network Solution for Business

It is been used for conference rooms only. We expected to have high performance on our WiFi Access Point during pic loads. Usually it is really helpful in meetings when we need to supply internet for 20+ users/guests with mobile devices. We also have a few more MR devices in our offices. So far so good with performance and uptime.
  • Cloud Managed control is really good things.
  • Clear licenses policy and manuals to install.
  • Reporting and in-line antivirus protection are good benefits with Advanced license.
  • AI should be implemented.
  • Enterprise license should include AV protection.
It is a great indoor solution for WiFi access point. Clear and easy process of installation for office. Meraki has all of the range AP for any needs. So it is convenient to take devices which are suited more for the project. Cloud management makes all of the operations with hardware handy.
It would be hard to manage in mixing AP environment, especially when multi-vendor non-Cisco hardware in use.
