How Cisco Meraki MV Differs From Its Competitors

Simplified Management

It was a breeze to install, with the dashboard being user-friendly. I would say overall; it was 6-7 minutes to set up. I was able to upload a floorplan with a field of view which again makes tracking much easier to manage. The vision portal is also a great tool for our use cases.

It's really easy to connect a new camera to our cloud console. The settings, which are many, can be configured remotely and very rarely do we have to physically do something to the camera. Occasionally we have to power cycle a camera, but because they are POE we can cycle the power remotely …

General testing of its features, so that I can train, and demonstrate its features.
  • easy to set up
  • easy to search and retrieve data
  • sometimes does not detect people/vehicles
Does not work well in the dark, but I guess that is the environment and common to other solutions. Love the heat maps and the increasing features that are being rolled out
  • i had it via promo
Testing purposes. Have used it to retrieve a funny video of my son when hose pipe burst.
Love the fact that MV can act as gateway device for the Meraki Thing
simplifies archetecture, it is as easy to deploy as a MR

Currently, everyone is remote, so using this to monitor the front desk only with access remotely. We can capture any motion and respond accordingly to any activities on our storefront. This helps keep physical presence not crucial but available when really needed. The camera is very nimble and quite easy to move about to meet our needs.
  • Video quality
  • Motion alerts
  • Reviewing past footage
  • Ability to zoom
The Cisco Meraki MV2 camera is well suited, in our experience, for our front desk operations. Again, with light traffic, it can act as a stand-in for a person - this saves greatly on cost and allows people's resources to be better utilized. Our focus is on the dashboard, which provides all additional information as needed.
  • Reduced staffing

There haven't been any issues since installation, and day-to-day operations have been without complications.
I am unfamiliar with other products.

We have deployed over 25 cameras between our offices , indoor & outside. Main reason to deploy these was to replace legacy DVR and NVR based system . We felt cloud camera was ready and a much better investment since other technologies were obsolete too quick and having acces to that online dashboard made it that much more compelling
  • Easy to maintain
  • Powerful integrations and features set
  • MV sense
  • Pricepoint
  • Multi sensors options
  • More powerful lens (but theyre already good at 4mp)
The Cisco Meraki MV Cameras work well for surveillance and managing traffic. It also embeds very well with the other Meraki component and offers great management options, although some features are not necessarily built in and require a third party software. However it does offer an amazing Cloud based solution for all sizes of shops. Especially in retail with add-ons.
  • Cloud updates will ensure to stay up to date with new features
  • Lifespan of product should be longer than average => better ROI
  • Once deployed, maintenance is affordable
As with every Meraki product and solution, simplicity is at the forefront of it all! Once hooked up to the network, setting up the system was a breeze. Management was able to optimize setting for different sites and location in just a few hours. The dashboard is really intuitive and the quality of the lens and cameras has already proven to be invaluable in a case of theft.
We have some Meraki MR (42 and 36) deployed in our offices, and we have multiple Cisco Meraki MV 22 in the same environment. We have used Meraki beacon & bluetooth technology to keep track of traffic for our guests between the our common area of the building and the admin setion using some visitors passes.
Once youve deployed a model, say MV22 in a typical environment, adding another one is a true piece of cake. If you add say MV72 outside and you wish to monitor new elements , ie. Perimeter breach, then it requires a bit more work, but overall it's fair to say that scaling is easy to do.
While we havent tried other Cloud based camera and surveillance system, we feel that Cisco Meraki MV has offered us a true quality experience with their camera lineup ( second generation) - including the MV32 Fisheye, but mostly with their analytical features (location analytics) and wealth of integration thru third party solutions - mostly used for by our clients in the retail environment.

We have four different offices in different areas. As a Cisco partner, we decided to replace our four old camera systems with the Meraki MV solution. For our management and executive teams, it is a lot easier to get a great overview this way and to have a better understanding of the overall operations across the organization.
  • No need of a NVR or heavy infrastructure.
  • One simple cloud dashboard to set up for admin
  • Vision portal for users needing access to watch cameras (others than IT users)
  • Really easy to deploy
  • Cost is pretty high, even though you don't need to buy an NVR.
Usually, Meraki MV cost is quite high, so you need to deal with an experienced Cisco partner to make sure you're getting the greatest discounts you can have, especially for larger deployments. In opposite, in very small deals, Meraki MV can be an attractive solution based on price as you don't even need to buy a NVR. Just like with Meraki MR (access points), you can get great analytics info from the solution, and even more with some third party solutions on top of it. As you pay for a licence, Meraki has a evergreen model so make sure to always have the latest and greatest features.
  • Really easy deployment
  • Scalable without any issue
  • One easier solution to manage all offices
Meraki MV is managed into the same Meraki dashboard just like any other Meraki products. So IT teams usually already know/master this intuitive cloud based, single pane of glass dashboard. Like all the other Meraki products, MV's are really easily scalable. And even better now, viewers have an independent Vision Portal (web/app) and don't need to log into the IT portal dashboard.
We also use other Meraki products (MS / MR / SM ). We didn't try so far but also know that Meraki introduced MT (sensors). This could be a great addition to the portfolio eventually. The idea is always the same with Meraki, all products are easily managed throught the same cloud based dashboard.
I don't even know if there is a limit to Meraki product's scalability! We can group so many campus[es], offices, [and] organizations under the same cloud based dashboard that I don't even know what is the maximum devices count...if there is one. For our customers and us, it has never been an issue.
As a Cisco Partner, we didn't really look for [an]other camera solution. We simply decided to replace all of our camera systems in all our offices to get one easy to manage and centralized solution.

We use a few different [Cisco Meraki] MV models to monitor our campus with three main buildings and housing complex. Security guards and staff are able to view the camera feeds using their mobile phone or designated computers in which they can view multiple cameras at one time.
  • Ease of install and setup
  • Configurable options
  • Motion sensing and ability to search on motion within the video capture
  • Ease of administration and access permissions for different staff
  • View camera feeds from any location with internet access
  • Wish the night vision was bit clearer, but that could be the models we have and newer/better ones could fix that.
  • The exporting procedure is somewhat non-intuitive, but once you understand then it's fine.
  • There is actually very few things I don't like about the MV's - it would be mostly nitpicking.
We use the [Cisco Meraki MV's] to monitor outside areas around campus and inside areas. Best suited to see activity in an area - via their heat maps really helps. Depending on how much the camera is zoomed in, the lighting, and type of motion, it is hard to get details like a license plate or a super clear picture of someone's face. Lots of variables play into this, so it's not necessarily Meraki's fault.
  • Excellent value for the price considering how many cameras we needed.
  • The ability to assign permissions and see video from anywhere increased our security protection as guards can be on the move yet still see the feeds.
  • We ended up finding we needed more cameras than we thought because to get certain detail and clarity the cameras have to be close to what you want to monitor.
It's really easy to connect a new camera to our cloud console. The settings, which are many, can be configured remotely and very rarely do we have to physically do something to the camera. Occasionally we have to power cycle a camera, but because they are POE we can cycle the power remotely at the switch level.
We have not done any integrations with the MV's, although I know that is possible.
It would be very easy to configure a new camera at another location, as long as someone at that location can do the install. The camera can then be categorized in the console. Different video walls can be created so you can group the video feeds by site or department, etc.
We did not evaluate any Meraki competitors.
