We use Nexus 9000 switches to transport video and audio in replacement of SDI technology, using the IPFM Cisco setup. Media is transported within sites and also across site, as well as with partners.

Cisco Nexus 9000 has everything you may need.

  • Lower inter-site costs compared to SDI
  • Higher throughput
  • Media is available easily
Juniper has a much much better NETCONF/YANG implementation that I regret. But for transport 2110 media flows, I trust Cisco Nexus 9000 switches.

NBM feature on Cisco Nexus 9000 is a very important feature for us to avoid congestion in our network.
Network bandwith protection and PTP quality are the top most features. So I would start by just filtering the equipments that do not fit these 2 requirements. Then, in this domain, reputation is the also a very important thing to compare. Then, streaming telemetry would be the next item I would compare, as well as network configuration API like NETCONF. Of course price and support would be also important.
  • Implemented in-house
No
Change management was minimal
  • Configuration had to be automated for consistency
  • Rebooting so that TCAM carving takes effect
Start simple, use a central configuration repository, optimize then.
All the cases I opened at the TAC were successfully answered, some of them were very technical. We also have a great pre-sales team.
I don't known exactly the support level we have.
No
all the time!
You can really do what you want with these switches. They are stable and have really a lot of features.

we use Cisco Nexus 9000 series switches for our data center and set up a private cloud for our customers.
  • easy to manage
  • reliable
  • effective
  • so far we did not encounter much issues
the connection is ok and we have used it for years without [many] issues. it is suitable for our data center and we use it to connect our servers to set up a private cloud
  • our partner gave a good corporate discount so ROI was positive
Huawei provided good discounts but other teams had encountered issues with their products after deployment so we decided to stick to cisco

They are used to connect the servers and allow our customers to access the resources within our data centre, and also allow the virtual machines to access the internet

They are network engineers and have network knowledge to operate the switches. They also work with the vendors to do routine maintenance and updates

We have good partner pricing with Cisco and Cisco is also reputable and is the market leader in network equipment. The features are able to suit our needs
We will still stick to the same evaluation and selection process
  • Third-party professional services
We used JOS to implement
Yes
We setup the switches as a base setup and then slowly added more switches as we scale up to support more users
Change management was minimal
The engineers had to be trained on how to manage the switches. Subsequently there was no further change management required
  • Connectivity issues
It is reliable and working as expected
The support was prompt and we did not encounter much issues with them
Yes we purchased premium support. Because our switches are used for operations and there is SLA involved so we needed prompt support if necessary
No
We did some VAPT scans and there were some findings related to their products. We checked with them and they took time to remote in to check
It did not give much problems since go-live and our engineers only need to do routine maintenance and patches

LLD and initial implementation
Yes
Two part implementation. First phase was to build vxlan fabric and test it. Second phase adding external connectivity to IP core and end to end testing
Change management was a big part of the implementation and was well-handled
Every change must be tested in lab before proceeding in production
