As mentioned before, the main selling point for us on Cisco routers is availability and uptime. After configuring and installing the routers, they just work and they work for a long time without downtime. Being continuously connected is key for our business, so the investment in the hardware has proven to be worth it.

When it comes to enterprise grade routers we only considered Cisco Routers, hence cannot comment on other vendor devices.

Cisco's fast forward routing and well designed data plane operations makes biggest impact in delivering large data contents in very short duration. Other routers are often failing in routing heavy amounts of data. This may bring up when memory overflow or cpu over processing happens. But Cisco Routers never encounters this issue as it has dedicated hardware for dealing with high volumes of data. Also, the software part supports state-of-the-art technologies, which helps fast forward the data plane.

I mentioned it earlier, but let me expand-- the Cisco Routers have the highest uptime and resiliency of any of our hardware devices. We check them with our vendor (Cisco-certified experts) twice a year to determine if any firmware or other upgrades are needed. We also have a yearly review to check on EoL and other issues that might arise. Of course, out-of-band or emergency patches are brought to our attention immediately, but that has been extremely rare. We replaced previous routers from a brand that rhymes with "swell."
