  • Helps to separate routing information for different networks for different customers.
  • Helps peers with service providers and Customer Networks and starts the exchange of information between them.
  • Helps facilitate internet connectivity for enterprise networks.
  • Helps transferring Internet or Private Data from one place to another.
  • Cisco Routers would be great if they have easier UI.
  • Would be better if Cisco can use more Open-Source Tools instead of proprietary tools.
  • Will be amazing if Cisco has cheaper training and certifications on Cisco Routers, as currently they are expensive ones, and dominating the market.

  • Access point management using Meraki cloud.
  • network security using dedicated 3rd radio.
  • Enhanced client connectivity using dual band radios and 802.11ax standard support.
  • Voice and video optimization and application traffic shaping.
  • Wi-Fi location tracking.
  • Software-defined radios could be used so that both the radios could be converted into 5 GHz model to provide enhanced connectivity in network congestion scenarios.
  • Support for low power IoT devices.
  • Should provide more details about devices connected to the access points such as the risk score of the devices.
  • Enhanced encryption algorithms and quick firmware upgrades.

  • Cisco routers offer networks for the WAN, the LAN and the cloud include advanced analytics, optimization security incorporated with them you can have a comprehensive and proven solution.
  • They are well designed to support coherent optics to drive the convergence of optical layers, as well as systems that offer lower power consumption
  • They are very reliable for networks that are constantly growing traffic with fixed or modular systems that allow handling large traffic flows
  • They are quite friendly and easy-to-use computers on their different platforms, whether ios, ios xe, XR
  • I have had the opportunity to work with different vendors of routers and simply from my point of view they are the best equipment in the market. Perhaps the unfavorable point is the costs compared to other manufacturers, but they are still the best option

  • Data boosting (high rated functionality & efficiency for boosting data in a large network)
  • WAN is software defined (users and device are in secure network)
  • Cisco Intent-Based Networking and Digital Network Architecture (DNA)( Automation Security in very simple manners)
  • Embedded Event Manager in Cisco IOS (monitoring & detection of EVENTS, for correction and passing information to avoid)
  • Dedicated CPU Sockets must be included
  • Price and licensing must be reduced
  • Power supply must be duel like core switches
  • Mounting issues are very common but no action from Cisco (Improve Mounting kit)

  • Centralized management
  • Automatic updates
  • Simple site-to-site VPN configuration
  • The yearly license fee for Meraki products is way too costly
  • No ability to manage an individual device and no CLI interface
  • Some configuration changes are difficult or not well implemented

  • Security. You can run VPN services on these routers along with core function of routing.
  • Rate limiting for DDOS or traffic on WAN links can help to prioritise the actual user traffic.
  • Routing. This is main feature of these devices and they do it really well.
  • GUI Management, as such there is no great GUI built-in. CCP can help but it's more for switches rather than for routers.
  • The whole upgrade procedure is pure manual work, great if it could have been single click button for upgrade and downgrade.
  • Config rollbacks are still manual, good to see if Cisco can implement config checkpoints.

  • Cisco Routers set up easily (even the IOS derivatives); they are basic in a good way.
  • Cisco Routers support all routing protocols (limitations on Merakis)
  • Work well in conjunction with Cisco switches.
  • Documentation can be challenging sometimes if questions are had. The tech docs can be overwhelming.

  • Functional VPN with robust configuration options for small businesses.
  • Load balancing for WAN, adding excellent manageability to your network.
  • Dual WAN.
  • Firmware improvements as the routers (at least the models I used) can sometimes crash while setting up.
  • In two RV042 that I had to configure and monitor, I had problems where they stopped working properly (crashes, loss of settings, bug). In another model, the VPN did not connect and only after a router restart did it work.
  • Three WAN options on RV line.

  • Route packets.
  • Store prefixes.
  • There are inconsistencies in syntax and feature set across families.
  • The recommended code releases are usually way behind the release schedule.
  • Catastrophic bugs can cause issues with the most benign of changes.
