GeoHECRAS is a versatile software that offers a range of use cases for users in the field of hydraulic modeling and floodplain analysis. Users have found that the software greatly enhances efficiency and accuracy in HEC-RAS model flow analysis by allowing quick and active modification of terrain data. By simplifying the creation, editing, and manipulation of 2D floodplain models, GeoHECRAS streamlines processes in drainage/flood studies and helps users meet their deadlines and budgets more effectively. Additionally, the software supports various applications such as floodplain delineations, bridge and culvert replacements, dam failure analyses, and steady and unsteady 1D and 2D modeling. With its intuitive interface and additional features, GeoHECRAS proves to be a valuable tool for a wide range of projects, improving productivity and collaboration with clients and designers.

Intuitive User Interface and Streamlined Workflow: Users consistently praise the software for its intuitive user interface and seamless workflow, which has significantly increased their productivity and efficiency. They appreciate how easy it is to navigate the software and how quickly they can accomplish tasks. Time-Saving Functionality: Many users have found that the software saves them a significant amount of time and effort in constructing models. They mention that new models can be created much more efficiently using this platform, leading to a decrease in overall project hours. Seamless Integration of GIS and CAD: Users highly value the integration of GIS and CAD into one platform as it simplifies the process of modifying geometry data. Additionally, they find the combination of GIS, LiDAR, and CAD data within the software's interface to be an invaluable time-saving feature.

Confusing User Interface: Many users have expressed frustration with the user interface of the software, finding it confusing and difficult to navigate. They have struggled to locate specific features and perform tasks efficiently, leading to a less-than-optimal user experience.

Bugs After Updates: Several users have encountered program bugs after updating the software. While customer service typically provides prompt solutions, these issues can disrupt workflow and cause inconvenience for users.

Limited Training Resources: Users feel that the company offers limited training resources for the software. This poses a challenge for those who are new to HEC-RAS modeling or require additional guidance in order to use the software effectively.

Based on user reviews, the following recommendations were made regarding GeoHECRAS:

  1. Utilize georeferenced data: Users recommend GeoHECRAS as a valuable resource for creating or updating HEC-RAS models using georeferenced data. Incorporating location-specific information enhances the accuracy and applicability of the analysis.

  2. Supplement with HEC-RAS: While GeoHECRAS offers significant capabilities, reviewers note that it is not a complete replacement for using HEC-RAS itself. Using GeoHECRAS alongside HEC-RAS allows users to take advantage of its georeferencing features while still benefiting from the full functionality of HEC-RAS.

  3. Seek support from customer service: Reviewers suggest reaching out to GeoHECRAS' support team for assistance when needed. The availability of customer support is appreciated, and users recommend utilizing it to resolve any issues or receive guidance on optimizing their use of the software.

In summary, users find value in GeoHECRAS for incorporating georeferenced data and creating or updating HEC-RAS models. However, they also emphasize the importance of supplementing it with HEC-RAS and leveraging customer support for optimal utilization.

We use GeoHECRAS in our organization for flood line studies and hydraulic analysis. The product allows us to determine critical flood levels and the extent of the flood lines and how it affects certain developments and/or bridge and culvert structures or how a proposed development will affect surrounding areas and the natural watercourse. We are able to hydraulically size bridges/culverts accordingly.
  • Ease of use - functionality
  • Accurate results
  • Considers all types of scenarios and structures etc.
  • When dealing with large files, the interface can be slow at times
It is well suited to determining the capacity and flood levels for existing structures and sizing proposed structures based on the existing flood levels. In cases where we do not have sufficient information for proposed developments that need to be included in terrain for modeling, it can be challenging to modify the terrain, however, I think this would be the case for most software.
  • The interface between all different types of files
  • The results are populated well for ease in reporting to a client
  • Greatly improved timelines for finishing a project as everything can be completed together on GeoHECRAS without having to use other software etc.
  • No negative impact thus far.
  • Makes working on these type of projects easier.
Other software not on the list includes HEC-RAS and SWMM / PCSWMM. Initially, we had to use multiple software before going to HEC-RAS to complete projects. Now we are able to complete the entire project on GeoHECRAS alone with so many different features which enable us to analyze various different scenarios with ease.
