We onboarded with Cohesity to replace an existing backup solution that we felt were no longer innovative while price for renewal kept increasing year by year. Cohesity was both competitive and showed innovation that was regarded as a leader in its field while providing much for solutions than just simple backup allowing us to converge not just the infrastructure but also different solutions into one.

  • Cloud backup
  • Canned Reporting

  • Meaningful error messages
Cohesity checks all the boxes when it comes to backups to an on-prem appliance as well as offloading to the cloud as an offsite backup. If you are after some meaningful analytics around backups for reporting when some additional work will be needed as the built-in reporting does not seem too intuitive or useful for those who want more than just an understanding of whether the backup succeeded or failed - we need to understand which, files, directories, partitions or VMs and the cause.

  • Replacing a existing backup solution gave us an immediate ROI but at the cost of losing existing backups due to proprietary cloud solution from existing solution
Support is quick to respond but lacks that ongoing responsiveness if the issue is not simple. There will be large gaps in replies if they need to resort to escalation and when there are timezone differences between yourself and the person who picked up the ticket.
Yes, as a first time customer with teams in unfamiliar territory, this is crucial.
No
Support is excellent when it is a simple matter. They are quick to respond and don't mind jumping into a remote web session to troubleshoot together. There is also an option to enable a remote support tunnel for them to troubleshoot remotely which is an excellent option when an issue does not require your focus and to watch them troubleshoot.

We use Cohesity DataProtect to back up all of our physical and virtual servers as well as desktops. The primary problems Cohesity addressed for us were that we wanted our backup data to be on separate disks than production (this was not the case before) and we wanted faster restore times for virtual machines. We have a Cohesity cluster in each of our data centers and use the replication feature so our backup data has redundant copies.
  • Fast VM restores
  • Good dedupe/compression
  • Easy replication
  • Good Dashboards
  • Hotfixes complicated to install
  • Upgrades don't always populate into GUI
I believe that a highly virtualized (my exposure is only VMware) environment is a great fit for Cohesity DataProtect. But it also works very well backing up our physical servers. We are also backing up MS Active Directory, MS SharePoint, MS SQL, and MS Exchange. Cohesity has app-specific solutions for all of these giving granular restore options and we have leveraged all of them in production.
  • Ease of use
  • Fast restores
  • Small backup windows
  • Faster restores mean less user downtime
  • Smaller backup windows mean we can run multiple backup jobs throughout the day. This means that we can restore a file closer to where an issue occurred to minimize data re-entry
We used to use the NetApp SnapManager suite, I've found Cohesity to be more reliable, easier to configure, and restores to be faster.

Cohesity - It just works

We use Cohesity across 7 locations to backup and replicate our data. Cohesity allows us to have several copies of our data in different data centers.
  • We use replication heavily to get data from one site to another, letting us get data out of areas that are more subject to natural disasters.
  • The user interface for Cohesity is simple and easy to use; folks that don't use it often have no problem picking it up quickly.
  • We attempted to use the archive feature to copy data to AWS, but this hasn't really worked out well for us.
  • I wish they would run a mailing list that informed of new versions or problems that others are seeing with the product.
Cohesity works well if you're attempting to consolidate your data center or if you're trying to get the most out of your investment because of their focus on hyper-convergence.

  • We've been able to take backups more often.
  • We've been able to get rid of tape.
Cohesity is faster and much easier to use and understand than any of the other products. Plus, to the best of my knowledge, the others don't let you use their platform for hosting datastores for ESXi.
Support seems to ebb and flow. There are months where it's very good, and there are months where it could be better.
There is no such thing, as far as I'm aware...it's all the same

Cohesity is used by our internal IT department for backup and restore. It has been used mostly for backups using ESXi. MSSQL and Exchange will also be backed up with Cohesity. You can create BackUp groups and link them to vCenter Folders. As soon as you create a VM in this folder it will be automatically backup. Also SQL Backup is easy to set up and once you know how the restore is also easy.

  • ESXi backup.
  • Very fast restore.

  • Little issue that can't be solved yet.
  • Some problems with SQL restore.
  • Sometimes a little bugs in the GUI.
You can restore VMs very fast so your business is online in less than one hour. It's also possible to search your backup files and restore only that file that you need within seconds. I think Cohesity can be used in most of the business. You are able to back up a lot of products.

  • The maintenance is very little (from our team).
  • On a disaster recovery scenario you can restore a lot very fast.
I was not involved in that project but we had Actifio before.
Serviceware Processes (helpline), Microsoft Teams
The support is fast but sometime it takes long for a fix. If something important doesn't work they will help you as good as they can. The support team usually are very fit in finding a solution.

Cohesity is used to replace our older backup and archive solutions because they are too old and expensive.
We currently mainly use it to back up our VMWare virtual desktop and server environment. We are also archiving our Microsoft Exchange email environment to the Cohesity cluster. It could also be a potential solution in the future for file server archiving.
  • Easy setup of backup policies within the UI
  • Creation of backup jobs is very straightforward with all necessary options but without being overloaded
  • Grouping of backups to backup groups makes admins live much easier
  • Restore of files and VMs is very easy
It's a very good solution for backups, restores and archiving. That's where it is meant to be and for me, that's what Cohesity fulfills.

  • We could reduce running costs by decommissioning our old backup and archive environment.
  • Cheaper to buy than to extend existing support contracts.
Cohesity is more flexible in sizing, supports more protocols and can cover our needs easily. It supports NFS archiving without the need for an additional "translating-gateway" like many other products need.
It's easily scalable. You have everything (Hardware, Software, Engineering and Support) from one supplier. No need for 3rd party support.
The support from Cohesity is done from real engineers. Very often you get a solution response at the first contact. I have, until today, never seen that a case has been opened by "log a route" without any useful feedback. They have 24/7 support and if necessary you can reach a support engineer within a very short time.
The resolution time and quality are awesome!

We had problem with restore of a VM due to a wrong VMWware setting. Cohesity support invested a lot of time and even it was not directly their responsibility, they solved that for us!
