What is Connectify Hotspot?

Connectify Hotspot enables users to turn a PC into a Wi-Fi Hotspot and share Internet with all nearby devices. It is a virtual router application that lets a user share Internet from a laptop with a smartphone, tablet, media player, e-reader, other laptops, and even your nearby friends. The vendor states it can be used it anywhere in the world without restrictions.

Connectify is better than using mobile devices for hotspots, but not as reliable as standard internet connections

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

I use Connectify Hotspot when traveling, which has been ideal for remote work. It allows me to access my emails and any other internet needs on the go, which has been extremely helpful when in areas without public Wi-Fi. It is nice as well that I don't have to carry a physical hotspot with me either.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

I have used Connectify as a laptop hotspot, it really helped me expand the wifi network from my LAN device to other devices. Generally, we don't really have multiple Ethernet LAN ports available as Switches are costly which is not a feasible solution for SOHO (Small Office Home Office) environment). And with Connectify, WiFi can be extended, and most of the devices can support WiFi, so multiple devices can be connected with even limited LAN ports available.

Pros

  • It can expand the WiFi network or LAN network.
  • Multiple devices can be connected with the same network, which eases the burden of securing multiple Internet connections, as we use a single Internet connection.
  • Devices such as Printers, Scanners, IoT devices can be connected with same Network.
  • It removes the need for Having a Physical WiFi router. This helps save some money, which is critical for Small Office Home Office.

Cons

  • Connectify has very big competition with Mobile Hotspot, they should add some more features.
  • Connectify has software Speedify, however, this has very limited features when combining two different Internet connections.
  • Connectify needs to find a way of combining different Internet Connections, they should use QOS when doing that. So that they can give the best path for preferred traffic.
  • Connectivity should add multiple SD-WAN features. And they should give users more granular control over which path traffic can go.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

The Connectify Hotspot software, just like other virtual router software, allows us to turn any of our computers into a mobile/wifi hot spot. This not only helps with connectivity issues caused by faulty physical routers but also can be used as a wifi extender so that the more remote areas of the office are covered.

  • Connection stability can be hit or miss sometimes.
  • The UI is a bit outdated.
