This is one of the tools that I can say really helps. The implementation of the software was good and it was easy to incorporate. Overall I would give the tool a good rating as their customer support team is handling issues very well.
  • Great for the review process. The talent selection feature is also very useful.
  • The embedded smart platform has an automated marketing mindset that provides smart analytics.
  • There is nothing I don't like about the product. All the features are very good and useful, except some technical aspects that need to be improved.
I love the built-in analytics that alerts when we're drifting from our brand voice or missing our priority keywords. So we can say that it is a very useful tool in our company.
  • Automated workflows and editorial calendar make it easy to see exactly where your content is.
  • Create great content, which can attract and engage the customer as well as increase traffic.

  • In the time that we have been using this tool, we have not found any fault with it, much less something that makes us feel that it has created negative aspects in our work.

I opened my Contently freelancer account in August 2016. I created the account for two reasons: First, so that I'd have an online portfolio, since I didn't have a website at the time. And, second, to try and find new clients to write for. At the time, a blogger and podcaster that I followed had received multiple projects from the site, and others she knew had also found new clients as well. Even though they were finance writers, and I wrote about other topics, I decided to give it a try.
  • Nice and easy space for an online writing portfolio
  • Supposed to be a space to find and attract new clients
  • An online space for clients to find new freelancers
  • They have a blog with some good articles and resources.
  • They have a rates database where you can see what some publications pay.
  • I have been using it for 3.5 years, and have had no response from potential clients.
  • The portfolio section is pretty easy to use, but I don't love the format.
  • Since I'm not a client, I don't know just how easy it is for them to find new freelancers or how often it is actually used.
  • Probably more suited for some types/concentrations of freelance writers, like finance, tech, or healthcare.
Because I've been using it for over three years, and never had a single bite from a prospective client, I can't recommend Contently for that reason. This is the sad part, because this is what they are supposed to be suited for, but I've had no luck. The people I would (and have) recommended it to are those that need a free, online portfolio for clients, and also for journalists who are curious as to what specific outlets pay.

  • Since I've never received any work from this site, it hasn't made much of an impact.
  • I do appreciate being able to see what some online publication pay rates are from time-to-time.
  • I do think some of their blogs/resources have been helpful as I grow in my business.
I also opened an account with Skyword in 2019, which is a similar service. The person that recommended it was a travel writer, and since I've done that as well, I thought it might be a better fit. To this point, I've received no work from it either, and don't hold out a lot of hope. As previously mentioned, where I think Contently does well is by giving you an online portfolio, additional resources like a blog for learning, and a rates database for publications.
I'm giving them a 10, but honestly, I've never reached out to them. I do see them putting out regular content on social media, so they might be responsive to questions there as well as regular customer support. In their posts and communication, they do seem to value their community, so hopefully, they have good customer support. And I've seen them asking for pitches from their community to publish well-paid articles during this stressful coronavirus time, and I really appreciate that.

Several of our product marketing departments use Contently. Not everyone in the company uses Contently, but I am unsure of the exact extent of its usage. We use Contently to contract creative writers and designers to generate content for our marketing teams when we do not have the time to do all of it ourselves. My team uses Contently mostly for creative writing content and find it helpful for sourcing different perspectives for the campaign ideas we provide writers outside what my team would usually write ourselves.
  • Easy to set up and track workflow.
  • Easy platform to communicate with contributors and team alike
  • Some very good writers
  • Transparency for how much we pay and how much the freelancer gets paid
  • Nice that Contently has analytics, but they aren't very useful.
  • Sometimes hard to navigate site since many of the terms for what I'm looking for are similar.
  • Some other UI issues with Calendar and Campaign pages.
It's helpful for top of marketing funnel writing that we can sometimes lose sight of because we are so ingrained in the product day to day. Contently is also helpful for long written pieces and ebooks that will take a significant amount of employee time to put together.

I avoid using Contently for mid to bottom funnel marketing writing because my team will often have greater insight into the product function or use-case or product release, making them more adroit to the tone of the written piece and able to produce the content quickly.

It allows my organization to organize the many steps of content marketing—from brainstorming and delegating work to edit and promotion—all in one place. Our entire marketing team uses it as they were tired of bouncing around from Google Doc to Google Doc, to internal management software back to Google Doc. To free up time and keep track of every stage of our projects so we don't drain precious mental energy that could be used to write, publish or promote instead.

  • Consolidating my work in one place to make my work life easier
  • Contently is unique from other content marketing organizational tools in one key way. It hands you a network of freelance professionals eager for delegated work.
  • You can search through a database of professionals to find the perfect person for your given project. Find individuals in your budget offering the exact skills and experience you need.
  • Find a way to give a number (or percentage) of stories completed by contributor compared from each article to my average
  • More in-depth heatmaps to see where eyes and cursors went during engagement
  • Track engagement rates and views for a given article over a period of time
What they are doing well is contently is making the lives of my content marketing team so much easier. My content marketing efforts use to feel held back by ineffective management systems, Contently is the perfect solution for us.

Ways they can improve is on the price. Contently requires a yearly subscription to access its software, and this can range anywhere from $30,000 to $150,000 a year—or even significantly higher. That is a lot of money for a small business like mine.

  • Price is too much for most companies but for us we have the ROI within one year
They are a much better product and offer more analytics and customizations for us, but they are about twice the price as Taboola is.
