ControlUp is a software that has proven to be valuable in troubleshooting performance problems and optimizing resource allocation in virtualized environments. Users have found it helpful in identifying potential bottlenecks and analyzing resource usage, which ultimately leads to improved performance. The software offers visibility and customization options that allow users to resolve issues effectively. Specifically, its VDI capabilities have been advantageous in workload distribution and resource management.

Another key use case for ControlUp is monitoring employee experience. IT departments have appreciated the software's ability to provide a more in-depth look into any vulnerabilities that users may experience. By offering proactive monitoring and alerting features, as well as real-time data analysis, ControlUp allows users to determine if performance issues are related to the server, network, or client end. This level of control over resources helps organizations enhance their support abilities and automate breach notifications.

ControlUp has also proved useful in assessing logon performance and identifying specific Citrix silos where problems occur. Users can easily determine if performance bottlenecks are related to CPU, RAM, or hosting infrastructure. The software enables users to track and resolve application bandwidth issues, automate fixes for common problems like drive filling up, and enhance support abilities through valuable management information data.

Additionally, ControlUp has been preferred over other solutions for managing and monitoring Citrix CVAD environments. Users have found the additional features, scripts, and alerts built into ControlUp advantageous compared to solutions like Citrix Studio and Director. The real-time console, triggers, and script actions have proved particularly effective for troubleshooting and resolving issues.

Overall, users have reported no problems with ControlUp and have found it to be an indispensable tool that not only saves time but also helps them better allocate system resources. It has been utilized for various use cases such as optimizing resource allocation in virtualized environments, monitoring employee experience, troubleshooting performance problems, assessing logon performance, tracking application bandwidth issues, automating fixes for common problems, and managing Citrix CVAD environments.

Easy-to-use interface: Many users have praised ControlUp's interface for its ease of use, with multiple reviewers stating that it is intuitive and user-friendly.

Customizable alerts and notifications: Several reviewers have expressed appreciation for the customizable alerts and notifications provided by ControlUp. They have found it valuable to be able to set up specific triggers and receive timely alerts for various events, such as session events or hardware failures.

Automation capabilities: Numerous users have been impressed by ControlUp's automation capabilities. They have mentioned being able to create script-based actions that can be executed automatically or tied to specific triggers. The availability of a community with approved scripts has also added value to the automation features.

High Pricing: ControlUp is often considered relatively expensive, which can be a concern for organizations with smaller budgets. Some users have expressed that the pricing may not align with their financial constraints.

Lack of Script-based Automation: One drawback mentioned by users is the absence of script-based automation as a standard offering in ControlUp. This limitation hinders the ability to automate certain tasks and workflows, leading to inefficiencies.

Overwhelming Console Interface: Users have reported that the console interface in ControlUp can be overwhelming and difficult to navigate. However, there is a more modern web-based console called SoLVE, which offers a better user experience and improved usability.

it's a wonderful monitoring tool for VDI's
Controlup we used for citrix and AVD both the products.
it has good set of information when we look for troubleshooting end user issues such as looking over login delays.
CPU/Memory/IOPS/Bandwidth(AVD)
Have built the whole controlup setup in azure and as well as in onprem too
recent insights of controlup is a real add-on when we look over historical data either for a user or its for a whole lot of stuff they included
even i did controlup administrator certification too.
its not only for monitoring anymore its having much more automation scripts to utilize
  • Automation such as exe level of killing, GPO push for all machines, copy files to each VDI
  • Bandwidth calculations/CPU/Memory
  • Insights
  • NA
all VDI solutions controlup would be a apt product which can reduce the headache of operational/Helpdesk teams
  • recently we have seen it started integrating with market leaders such as Nerdio
  • its licensing cost is a bit on high

We are a single location accounting firm with a 100% VDI platform. We use ControlUp to manage, monitor, and troubleshoot this environment. We are also trying to use the ScoutBees module for user experience and uptime monitoring. We'll use ControlUp to help make resource allocation decisions going forward (e.g. how much RAM and CPU to allocate to VMs). We've already used it to reduce logon times.
  • Easy to find information when troubleshooting a problem
  • Information is clearly presented
  • Information is easy to arrange (sort, filter, drill down)
  • Information provided is useful out of the box but can also be customized
  • It seems that there is a gradual transition occurring from one interface (a local program) to another (Web). This creates confusion at times.
  • ScoutBees module has a problem with our version of Horizon, so we can't do a login test
  • The local program for ControlUp uses a lot of resources
  • The training session focus on very large environments, which we aren't. Might be good to offer SMB sessions separately.
An environment where visibility of general performance metrics isn't currently done or is done with a system that is difficult to use (which was our case). An environment where resource allocation decisions need to be made (e.g. how much RAM and CPU to allocate to VM pools). An environment where a troubleshooting tool is needed (e.g. to answer the question, "Why is this person experiencing poor performance right now?")
  • Ease of use
  • Exhaustive information provided about monitored systems
  • It led us to make some quick and simple changes that reduced our logon times by 25%
  • We are better able to evaluate CPU and (especially) RAM utilization in our VDI pools (used for planning)
In four years of using SysTrack I never once felt like I knew where to go in investigate a problem. ControlUp is much easier to use and provide great information.

We use ControlUp to monitor and manage our Citrix CVAD environment. We use ControlUp insights to provide reports to management and to troubleshoot issues that have occurred in the past. We use the real time console to troubleshoot real time issues. We also use the triggers and script actions to alert us to issues and to automatically resolve issues.
  • The triggers are very flexible and can be configured to alert on things from events in sessions to hardware failures. Script actions are what they sound like. They are scripts that can be created and run on demand or tied to a trigger. One example is that if a hard drive is low on space we have a script to clean up certain things on the drive.
  • Script actions are supported by the ControlUp community. Community members can submit scripts that are reviewed by ControlUp and approved. This means more script are added over time.
  • ControlUp support and sales support has been great. Our sales engineer is always willing to jump on and help us with configuration issues and standard support is quick to respond and are good at resolving issues.
  • ControlUp has a quick and easy way to submit feature request but I with they had a public list of things being proposed that the community could vote on to show what is important to those of us that use the product.
  • The console is very memory intensive. They are working on a web version but I am not sure how long it will be before they get all the same features in the new web console.
ControlUp is great on seeing what an end user is doing in a Citrix session and can help figure out why a user might be having an issue. The console also offers a bunch of tools on the right click menu. Things from making registry changes on a remote machine to network tools like ping, nslookup and other troubleshooting tools.
  • Real time monitoring that can help you quickly find what might be causing an issue.
  • Triggers for alerting.
  • Script Actions
  • The ControlUp console has ways to quickly identify issues. Other tools I have reviewed did a great job of collecting data but it did not present it in a way that made it easy to find an issue.
  • We had very little ability to provide management kinds of reports before we started using ContolUp. Now we can quickly tell management things like how many people are connected. How many different devices have connected to our environment. Hardware use and performance.
I feel all these products are good and have their strengths but for me it came down to two categories. How easy is it to find issues and cost. It seemed to me that the easiest to use is ControlUp and eG. Price broke down to ControlUp and SysTrack being lower than Goliath and eG.
