As part of a proof of concept, we tried using Azure AI services like Cortana, Cognitive Services, LUIS, etc. to actually enable our customers to search through vast records of data (Millions) very easily. The Azure AI ecosystem of different services covers all the areas like text, speech, and vision and has helped us in extracting all the information we need from the documents. And on top of that, we have used Cortana service as voice recognition software for our customers to fetch the data by speech as an input which improved ease of access.
  • Ease of Integration for all AI services.
  • Reduced time for development.
  • A one stop for all AI related services.
  • It struggles with customization for specific use-cases related to a particular domain.
  • As a beginner it is difficult to apprehend.
  • Doesn't provide an integrated free trial of services on their web.
It's easy for anyone who is expecting some simple AI problems like fetching the keywords, understanding the intent, language translation, etc. to be solved from an existing database and all they need is to connect to their APIs via a subscription model. But for complex use cases, there is still room for improvement like customization of underlying AI models for a specific use case like identifying some unique identifiers with respect to industry.
  • Machine Learning and AI.
  • Easy of Access.
  • Could easily help in digital transformation of any company.
  • A host of services all in one place.
  • Eliminated the need of huge capex investment.
  • Able to analyze the type of requests the user makes and improve the solution.
  • Easy to track all the expenses based on subscription model offered by Azure AI.
IBM Watson Assistant has been early into this market and has improved a lot over time compared to Azure AI Cortana. More documentation related to the services. But Ease of integration Azure AI ranks over IBM Watson Assistant. And again in terms of services offered under the ecosystem, Azure AI precedes IBM Watson Assitant.

A few departments in my company are starting to create smarter processes using Azure IA Cortana technology.
Some technical teams have access to several Azure services (including IA Cortana) and we are piloting several small applications using these resources. We are still learning. A recent application that we did searches for information in a standardized set of Excel files to scan its content and identify inaccuracies in filling it out. This process was previously done manually by people and was time-consuming, expensive, and inefficient.
  • Provide data scientists and data analysts with tools that give their processes more intelligence
  • Decrease software development time, bringing the intelligence structure out of systems
  • Azure has a lot of support documentation and excellent technical support services
  • More partnerships with colleges and schools to increase the workforce with technical knowledge (increase local workforce)
  • Have more online training and documentation in other languages
  • Have affordable prices for students
We are still identifying these scenarios in my organization and in other organizations that I know of. But it is clear that technology has a lot to offer, empowering data science and data analysis teams. It can be our starting point for the intensive use of artificial intelligence in the company, even in small one-off applications.
  • Machine learning
  • Mining knowledge and information
  • Improving our processes by eliminating manual analysis activities
  • We do not yet have measurements and impact indicators for the adoption of Azure IA. But I believe it will be of high impact in the years to come.
  • We can improve our analysis and optimize team time
  • We can improve our digitization
- Lower acquisition cost (my institution has other contracts with Microsoft which lowers the global cost of many tools and technologies)
- More learning and study material available (which facilitates learning by teams
- More intuitive technology
- Microsoft has a local data center reducing costs and facilitating contracts in local currency
- Price based only on services used

We are a software house, providing software for the legal industry, We have integrated the Cortana Intelligence suite into our legal and case management platform. Primarily we are using Cortana analytics to provide automated complaints modules for customers of law firms; the analytics is used to process complaints and identify sentiment (positive or negative) from the customer and analyse key phrases. The complaints are then routed to the relevant departments in the law firm.
  • Being hosted in Azure solves a massive hosting problem
  • The language understanding system has the ability to revolutionize many vertical markets
  • Integrating with Cortana Analytics was really simple due to easy to understand documentation
  • The language understanding service can be a little overwhelming at first trying to understand the differnces between intents and entities
As a provider of software applications to the legal market there is not a huge amount that the Cortana Intelligence suite can be utilised for though at the speed that new features are being added I suspect that will change very quickly. However the current functionality is clearly really well suited for e-commerce companies or vertical markets where process is very prescriptive and linear.
  • Difficult to ascertain the ROI as we are a software house who have developed a module in our application using Cortana. However for companies that use our software I would say the use of sentiment analysis in our application could free up at least 1 full time resource to be used elsewhere in their organisation.
Have not evaluate any other similar products, we are a Microsoft Software house so it was a logical decision to use Cortana over other alternatives.
