What is Coveo Qubit?

Coveo Qubit (acquired October 2021) uses rich visitor data to understand different user segments and serve personalized messages to audience segments using JavaScript. It is available on either a managed or self-service model.

Data is collected using Qubit’s own QProtocol data layer, or by integrating the user’s existing model via our API. Quantitative visitor behavioral data is combined with qualitative visitor feedback and ingested data from Qubit users' other systems of record enabling them to identify areas of the site and customer groups to optimize and target with personalization experiences.

Using JavaScript means that changes do not have to be hard-coded into the site, giving marketers and ecommerce teams greater power to implement changes outside of the development cycle.

Users can A/B test any changes to their site using Qubit, and the user interface lets them know what the test results are.

Qubit is a versatile software platform that is widely used by various departments within organizations to enhance their websites and optimize user experiences. One key use case of Qubit is its ability to facilitate A/B testing, allowing users to create and implement tests to drive conversion rate improvements. With Qubit, marketing teams can quickly make changes to websites without requiring CMS changes or extensive development work. This flexibility enables them to test different designs and content variations in real-time, measure the impact of these changes, and make informed decisions on website optimization.

Another important use case of Qubit is its capability to collect and analyze large quantities of data to drive personalization based on customers' previous website and transactional behavior. By leveraging this data, Qubit empowers organizations to deliver targeted experiences and offers to specific customer segments, enhancing engagement and driving conversions. This level of personalization is seen as a key advantage of Qubit over other A/B testing and personalization software available in the market.

Furthermore, Qubit's attribution tool through OpenTag plays a crucial role in understanding visitor journeys and making informed decisions on marketing spend. It provides valuable insights into how customers interact with the website, helping organizations allocate resources effectively for maximum impact. Additionally, Qubit's frequent upgrades offer new opportunities for increasing conversion rates and improving customer engagement.

Overall, users rely on Qubit for a range of use cases including A/B testing, personalization, data-driven decision making, content delivery, measuring the impact of changes, and understanding customers' preferences and behaviors. Its versatility makes it an essential tool for marketing teams, IT departments, web designers, and customer service professionals looking to optimize user journeys, test hypotheses, implement rapid changes, and ultimately improve overall conversion rates.

Versatile tool: Users have found Qubit to be a versatile tool that allows them to build literally anything, making it a valuable asset for non-technical team members. Multiple reviewers mentioned this.

Excellent account management and customer support: The account management and customer support provided by Qubit were highly praised by users. They mentioned that they had never experienced such good account management before and found the team's support particularly helpful in areas like data preparation for strategic review, growth hacking project management, and A/B testing. Multiple reviewers mentioned this.

Valuable feedback collection: Users highly appreciated the feedback box feature in Qubit as it gathers information on all parts of the business. Feedback is given to relevant departments such as merchandising and product development, leading to the introduction of new products or additional sizes based on customer feedback. Multiple reviewers mentioned this.

Difficult User Interface: Many users have found the user interface of Qubit to be difficult to navigate, making tasks feel clunky and impeding their ability to report on tests effectively.

Lack of Data Visualization Features: A number of users have expressed a desire for more robust data visualization capabilities within Qubit. They suggest that additional features or panels could greatly enhance the overall user experience by providing better insights into their data.

Compatibility Issues with Web Browsers: Some users have reported encountering bugs when using certain web browsers with Qubit. This has caused frustration as it disrupts their workflow and creates obstacles in setting up experiences within the tool.

Qubit is addressing several significant needs for multiple departments (Customer Service, IT, Marketing, User Experience) within our company:

  • User Experience Testing
  • Customer Journey Reporting
  • Dynamic Customer Segmentation
  • A/B Testing
  • Mobile Experience Testing
  • Data Integration
Limited IT resources mean that we do not have time to make all of the necessary integrations or tests we would like to see. Qubit helps us move with more speed to market advantages.
  • Tara and Trip have been excellent contacts and resources for questions and answers. Their Service and support and extremely helpful.
  • The ease of test implementation is very handy. Requirements are discussed, the project is scoped and development starts. Updates are provided as steps are accomplished and tests are visible throughout the entire test period.
  • The provided "opportunities" section helps define what next steps may be taken from a project management standpoint. This is a two edged sword. 1) It provides some light directionality communication on what next mid or low tier priorities exist. 2) This also proves the investment of the tool by adding a third voice to the conversation and consistently communicating ROI in potential dollars to be gleaned from the work that could be done.
  • I have yet to be "impressed" by any of the design elements supplied by the design team. I know that they are working from a billable clock perspective, but many of the designs require two or three rounds of refinement before I have been happy with their finalized work. Even then, the design itself seems somewhat vapid. It may be that they have not been empowered to challenge formats or pages more specifically, but more often than not, I wonder what their background is, as many adjustments seem like design 101 from an eCommerce perspective.
  • The timeliness of design turnaround is the least expedient of the group. Tara's ability to launch a project is excellent, her developers and QA team seem to have legitimate 48-72 business hour turnaround times, but the design feels like it takes much longer. This is then compounded by the aforementioned required set of approvals during which additional adjustments are made. Again, I do not know what requirements are provided, but it is the only part of the relationship that I would deem a "pain point."
  • I would like to see a more Robust Customer Feedback tool or the addition of a automated report. There are plenty of false negatives or false positives in the reporting and so the breakdown within the tool doesn't help a great deal. Segmenting by type is more helpful, but the positive negative is often not correct.
Qubit works well in certain situations, but any internal backlog in IT, specifically Data Integration or Development, will run into consistent issues between published tests, the ability to hard code winning tests and the actual use of the data engine that Qubit provides. Having a fully Functional IT team is necessary in order to make the best use of the tool. This is somewhat at odds with some of the work we are requesting them to do for us, based on the fact that our IT backlog is significant. In short, we are using Qubit to provide additional IT bandwidth, but Data integration requires a decent amount of IT bandwidth.
  • None that I have worked with
I was not directly involved in the decision-making process but understand that overall functionality, data integration, and UX testing weighed against the cost of the solution were the deciding factors.

Qubit is used by four distinct departments:
  • Marketing
  • IT
  • Analytics
  • User Experience
Each of these stakeholders has their own uses and reporting and provide information we utilize to further refine our experiences, integration, and design focuses. The structure of the tool allows clear handoffs between departments and has helped facilitate a smoother set of transitions throughout our projects.

Our Qubit support is primarily an IT consideration. Although I maintain the project Status and am the primary relational contact point, the Support and Primary users reside with IT. Our developers are few but top notch. They work in conjunction with our Data Warehouse Architects to streamline the flow of information between our platform and the Qubit tool.
  • Speed to Marketing Experience Changes with Conversion Uplift
  • Marketing Channel Segmentation and Personalization
  • Platform Data feeds into our CRM
  • Qubit provides a second set of eyes for areas requiring attention in lower priority assortments or portions of our site. This provides some "low hanging fruit" projects that will drive incremental revenue for the company.
  • As of right now, we are not looking into any additional uses as there is ample work in the opportunities presented to us currently.
  • Incremental Conversion Rate lifts site wide
  • UX Code Development and QA Projects
  • Additional Customer Feedback Loops and Abandonment Surveys
Qubit is currently providing resources and support we do not have internally. Our relationship managers are exceptional and I feel well informed and well supported by their team. The tool is nice, but our contacts from the company are the real reason to maintain our relationship. They work hard for clarity and continue to help us push for additional opportunities.

Qubit is being used on our website for A/B testing and visitor feedback. Running A/B tests enables us to make informed decisions as to what we would like to use/change on the website.
  • Personal contact at Qubit - I always know who to reach out to rather than just having an impersonal support email.
  • Lots of testing ideas coming from Qubit, so we can utilize best practices.
  • Reporting on the data gathered on the website could be easier.
  • Visitor opinion could have categories you could program rather than machine learning.
Visitor feedback is very helpful to check that everything on the website is as user-friendly as possible and working as expected. The feedback gets categorised automatically and given a sentiment rating, so you can filter by topics of interest. Qubit is also great for A/B testing - they have great ideas and are able to implement them quickly.
Qubit was already in place when I joined the company, so haven't tried alternatives.

Understanding website analytics - but no special skills really as Qubit is very self-sufficient and [customer support is] able to explain things in case of questions.
  • A/B testing
  • Tracking the customer experience with visitor opinion
  • Online analytics
  • Looking at our features and quantifying how well they are doing
  • Enhancing the visitor opinion options
  • Product recommendations
  • Better website userfriendliness
  • Understanding conversion drivers
  • In-person training
They explained what the tool does very well.
Fast response
No
They've always been quick to respond and did everything to investigate and solve any issues.
I wish customized reporting was easier as that currently needs to be uploaded in order for me to use it.
It works regardless of how many website visitors we have so it's not really necessary to scale up or down.
It's been very reliable.
We check if there's going to be an impact on load times before agreeing on a test.
Qubit manages the tags needed for IBM Digital Analytics. Not sure on the difficulty as it was done before I joined.
  • Not at the moment
I have found dealing with Qubit very easy, we have regular calls plus an account manager is always there for any ad hoc questions.

Qubit is used by the organization I work for in order to test new website ideas before adopting them. We are creating new tests, new designs. We are also using qubit to see customer feedback and to see if an idea would improve anything on the website. Qubit is used by the user experience team.
  • Gives you the ability to test an idea.
  • You can track the result of the test and verify how it is going.
  • Advanced technologies - data collection.
  • Sometimes I find it difficult to write the code using only jQuery or CSS
  • Poor training on the product.
I think that Qubit is very good when you want to test some ideas like an extra button, a different page layout, a different banner/banner remover. But, at the same time, Qubit is quite difficult regarding class creation.
Qubit was used by my company when I started to work here.

We use Qubit as an A/B testing and personalization platform on our e-commerce site. It is being used within the marketing and IT departments. We had tried previous A/B testing and personalization software with our site but nothing compares to Qubit. We finally found a solution that not only doesn't conflict with our e-commerce platform, but also gives us a way to change the design on the website without needing to go through IT development cycles.
  • Qubit has great support and Simon, our point man at Qubit has given us great ideas and contributed to our e-commerce strategy to increase conversion and overall ROI on our website.
  • The ability to be able to A/B test different features on our site without impending other projects and priorities.
  • One of my favorite parts of Qubit is their ability to give us back customer feedback collected on our site in an organized and simple to use feature in their dashboard. This gives myself and team a direct line with our customers. Something I have always wanted.
  • I would like more communication between myself and Qubit. I feel that a bi-weekly phone call isn't enough to push strategy forward.
  • Initially we encountered conflicts with Qubit and other 3rd party scripts.
I would say it is well suited as a personalization tool and if you are seeking to find an A/B testing tool that fits your needs, this is a great all in one solution. It is not magic though, the best way to work with Qubit is to come to the table with a strategy and they will help you figure out the best solutions for your customers and website.
  • We have seen a slight impact on our overall ROI. It is still early days though, as our traffic sources have gone through quitesignificant changes.
We choose Qubit after a bad experience with Personyze. We found the latter difficult to use and their dashboard was hard to navigate. We have far less overhead with Qubit and Qubit are able to take care of all the development stages from A to Z.
IT and Marketing. Specially software development, UX design and content writing

One person should be able to support the platform from a technical perspective, as in can handle any software changes needed and be able to act as the technical liaison to the Qubit account managers. Another person would need to be able to support the platform from a marketing perspective, to be able to oversee the mockups that Qubit design, to ensure they align with the company's brand and 'look'.
  • The ability to be able to use Qubit to add a feature to the site, without having to go through an IT cycle
  • We use the dashboard to help us discover any issues that our customers may have, whom may not necessarily contact customer service.
  • Sometimes when we have a promotion or sale and our own deployment wasn't successful, Qubit was able to step in and provide a solution for us.
  • We had to temporarily disable a feature on the website and we were able to do this via Qubit's so that we didn't need to burden our already overwhelmed IT department.
  • We would like to continue to optimize and personalize the site further with Qubit. One of my aims is to really segment our audience and be able to deliver content on the homepage and even throughout the site that is personalized for that user specifically.
We really love working with them and we are excited to see what ideas they will come up with as we continue to optimize our website.
Yes
We were using Personized, which is a platform for Web personalization. We found that it was meeting our needs in terms of expectations and product usage.
  • Product Features
  • Product Usability
  • Product Reputation
We had been looking at a different platform to replace personized. However we preferred the customer service and personnel at Qubit far better. We also had a trial period with Qubit and found that we loved working with their account managers. We also found the platform was easy to use and their grasp of the brand and our needs in a short period of time was phenomenal. So I would say their customer service was definitely the main factor here.
I was pretty happy with the process, we had a few bumps initially but were able to find a platform we were happy with and are excited to continue working with.
  • Implemented in-house
As our strategist at Qubit took the initiative to bring in another account manager when he saw that we needed communication / support during the hours he wasn't available, due to conflicting time zones.
I would say that the Qubit account managers are always available for any request. We have a lot of different promotions that could always do with last minute optimizing or changes and Qubit can be relied on to get this changes up and running in an impressive amount of time, so that we don't need to patch live or wait for the next IT sprint. Invaluable to our business.
Performs very well and if they are any problems, they are resolved as soon as possibly.
