What is SolarWinds Dameware Remote Support (DRS)?

Dameware Remote Support is a systems administration tool that helps IT admins and support teams provide remote support to end-users. This tool enables users to initiate remote connections with multiple computers at the same time and provide support with the help of the built-in administration tools and utilities. Users can also remotely connect to Windows, Linux, and Mac OS X systems—all from a single, central Dameware console. The vendor says the solution is trusted by over 70,000 organizations worldwide and that Dameware was the first remote support software to introduce Smart Card authentication for remote connectivity.With the help of a secure internet proxy, Dameware lets users connect to their end-users and customers across the globe—whether they are situated inside or outside their corporate network. The Dameware Mobile Gateway functionality lets IT pros provide on-call and after-hours support by launching remote sessions from iOS and Android devices.

Dameware stacks up quite well against TeamViewer, it has similar functionality but lacks the easy over the internet connections that TeamViewer is known for. Dameware is more of a domain-based remote support application and works very well in that use case. We chose Dameware because it has been used for several years in the company and so it is well known and recognized.

We were looking for a tool to be able to provide remote support. We have SysAid and it has its own connection tool, but we had several problems. We tried to use AnyDesk and it worked for us, but, sometimes, the quality of the connection was bad since suddenly it would freeze for a few seconds. Because of that, we decided to switch to Teamwork, but at the same time, we also found SolarWinds Dameware Remote Support. The quality of the connection was similar but, with SolarWinds Dameware Remote Support, we had more tools available and for the price, we decided to stay with SolarWinds Dameware Remote Support.

SCCM is pretty decent as a Remote Support tool, the main difference is that, as SCCM is much more, it takes long time to load and uses u lots of resources that are wasted if you only uses it to Remote. Dameware Remote Support is specialized software, so it is powerful enough for all your needs, while being light enough to barely make a dent on the system resources.

We used mRemoteNG for quite a while, it had some good capabilities but wasn't a complete solution. It was the same with SCCM, we had heavy use of it in our organization, but trying to use some of the remote support options was cumbersome and didn't seem fully polished. SolarWinds Dameware Remote Support has had a long history of being a solid remote support solution. It has worked very well in our environment as a full solution to pair with our other SolarWinds products.

It's there when you need it, no getting ready or looking for it. Just log on in the morning and it's there all day. No connection issues, firewall issues, relying on users to punch buttons. The performance is great and the service is reliable.

Dameware Remote Support has more features than any of the other Remote Support products I've tested and it's much more affordable than almost any other program in this class. It has all of the features you will need and some you may not have even considered for this type of software.

We still have licenses with some competitors software for other reasons, such as large webinars. But the way that Dameware Remote Support tops all of the solutions is with all the included features to manage the network and users, active directory, software, services, and more, all without ever connecting to the remote system. When you must connect to another system, the agent service already installed on the remote system, establishes the connection in a second or two. It is very fast and compression is amazing without needing to disable wallpaper, sounds, etc., even with a slower internet connection. The ability to send files both ways, chat back and forth and give or take control by both parties is superb to all other software.

They both provide the same support, though I think Dameware has more features available than TeamViewer does. Between the two, I would recommend Dameware Remote Support for the additional features and better support.

We have tried countless other solutions (Bomgar, TeamViewer, LogMeIn) and I can safely say nothing comes close to Dameware. It's fast, efficient and has a simple interface. Very easy for users to use and cost less than other solutions. If your company currently uses something else and is willing to try other options, have a look at Dameware. The price and features alone will convince you!

DameWare is nice in that it is relatively inexpensive, stable, and "just works" for 90% of what I need. What is lacking, however, is an easier to deploy method of managing clients over the internet.

We chose DameWare due to price and it's integration with our selected help desk application. I have used several other competing products in the past. Some of them offer the ability to connect unattended on and off network which is nice, however, those solutions also have a much higher price point. We couldn't justify the cost when the majority of our need is for devices on the network. Overall DameWare has some room to grow when stacked against some other products but I don't know that it is intended to be a direct replacement as the other solutions are typically a part of a much larger package that cannot be purchased as a standalone item such as DameWare.

DameWare Remote Support was recommended by a friend who is also a systems administrator. My needs were being able for the user to share and see the desktop as I am working, having a chat feature, and [being able to] support multiple displays. I really didn't try anything else other than Windows Remote Desktop and various versions of VNC. They just didn't have the functionality I needed. Dameware Remote Support had all that I needed and even more features I didn't know I wanted but ended up using too.

DameWare is different than the built-in RDP protocols that Windows features, in that Windows RDP does not allow for connecting to the current user's session. DameWare does, so we can see and interact with exactly the same thing the user is experiencing, in real time.
