We use Datto RMM for most our client's systems management. This tool allows us to monitor and connect to remote client systems to update and maintain as needed.
  • Remotely view servers and end users systems and specifications.
  • Remotely apply updates and instllations for servers and end user systems.
  • Connect to user sessions for servers and end users systems.
  • Web Remote is very slow and generally unresponsive compared to alternative options.
  • Search result catigories could be automatic but have to be manually specified.
  • Agent client software sometiems does not perform scheduled tasks without notification.
It is a great tool for end systems management and monitoring. It has generally served well and can assist inmanaginf the devices for multiple clients / sites as needed. Remote control software leave alot to be desired and can be greatlly improved. Great for creating systems policies and providing basic end systems management.
  • Agent software can push updates and software installations / removals as needed.
  • Systems can be monitored for errors and misconfigurations from remote without much intervention.
  • Can eaily organize multiple clients / sites within the interface.
  • Datto RMM has been a great tool for end device management and organization.
  • It has a simple design and has been very easy to train new employees.
  • Many tools for remote management and deployment.
  • Easy to adaopt new clients and devices to the portal.
Our previous system was N-able RMM and while it was a good tool, the current version of Datto RMM has been better in most aspects. I personally have not used N-able in a few years and would not be able to go into too much detail about how they currently compare.

We use Datto for a variety of tools. The most used feature is remote access to their machines for troubleshooting. We also use it as an inventory tool, a remote scripting tool, and a simple data gathering. This really helps us get away from using a local AD server for pushing out changes to the machine since the machines simply need the agent installed and an internet connection.
  • Script jobs are easy to write up and quick to push out.
  • It gathers a lot of data regarding the machine.
  • We find ourselves with a good deal of machines where the Datto agent software simply stops working and requires a reinstall. Very annoying and getting worse.
  • More information about the machine would be nice, such as HDD/SDD model number.
Very well suited for MSPs, which is where we are being allowed to use it from. Quite cheap compared to some competitors, too. It's an all-around useful tool for managing your users and their machines for keeping things up to date, tracking specs, and troubleshooting.
  • Remote access
  • Pushing remote scripts
  • I've always had an RMM tool being used with our company, so I don't know what life was like for them beforehand. It's a massive time saver for sure. No more going to homes/desks when we can do it remotely with this tool. I think the cost is well worth the time saved.
I feel like we only scratched the surface with what ConnectWise Automate (formerly LabTech) could do. I don't remember seeing Connectwise have the ability to auto-update or install apps automatically for you from a selection of managed apps. I do love the simplicity of scripting things in Datto and the component store, which is basically just a marketplace for pre-made scripts, is nice. If someone else has already done the work of writing a script you want, why not share it with all?

We use Datto RMM to monitor and interact with our client's workstations, servers, and network equipment. Datto RMM provides diagnostic and evaluative reporting tools and also provides tools for immediate remote support for technical issues. Having these tools and access to their workstations saves time and leads to faster case resolution.
  • Remote connection options
  • Reporting
  • Remote tools available
  • Visibility
  • The Splashtop streamer in the Remote Tools breaks frequently
  • The New UI is feature-rich, but not intuitive to set up. You CAN find a way to show all of the information you need, but you may need to reach out to support to get there
I use Datto RMM extensively every single day. The RMM agent console has the following tools: 1) Take a screenshot of the users' display. 2) Access the services 3) VNC remote 4) RDP remote 5) command prompt, power shell prompt 6) Restart/Power 7) detailed use reporting 8) access to the files on the device 8) registry editor access 9) run quick jobs 10) Event viewer 11) Splashtop remote access 12) drive/disk information 13) a web remote access tool There are even more than I listed. It is an incredibly valuable tool that allows us to support our customers and go beyond expectations. Scenario 1) A local user is locked out of their windows computer, but it is on and connected to the internet. Solution: I used the command prompt tool in the RMM, which has Supervisor level access, and was able to use the net user tools and reset the user's password and unlock their account. Scenario 2) A user is moving to a new device and needs certain software. Solution: we have the installer files on the server. I used the RMM, connected to the client's new workstation, and uploaded the installer files to her desktop. I connected via one of the remote tools and was able to install the software.
  • Visibility of the network
  • Device Health information at a glance
  • Remote access at the click of a mouse
  • Excellent tool to help resolve client issues quickly!
  • The developers are always trying to increase the value of the product, and it is making a difference.

Datto RMM is our main LOB application. It's used across the whole organization, mainly by the technical department but also by the accounts and sales teams for reporting and asset management purposes. Datto RMM is purely designed for MSPs with automation and scaling in mind, as it allows to apply of every policy or job to devices across all the managed sites.
  • Monitoring
  • Patch Management
  • Remote control
  • Scripting management
  • It lacks job templates which could allow bundling multiple components (pre-made scripts)
  • Customized dashboard widgets
  • Integration with DeskDirector
Datto RMM is a great tool for MSPs of all sizes. Its design allows for scalability and it's been built with automation in mind.

It does a great job with patch management for Microsoft as well as with 3rd party apps.

Datto's ComStore is updated regularly with new components which allow application installation and uninstallation, monitoring and other pre-packed scripts. The best part is it will allow for anyone with only basic scripting knowledge to achieve great results automation-wise.
  • Automation
  • Patch management
  • Remote control
  • Device management
  • Monitoring
  • It has reduced our support costs significantly
  • Allowed us to add great value to our service offering
  • Documentation became easier as it allowed us to standardize configurations across multiple sites
Unlike other RMMs, Datto does not require a scripting expert or level 3 engineer in order to set up and for its daily use. I see the ComStore, where you'll find a great amount of pre-made and tested scripts, as one of its greatest strenghts. You'll typically find what you need in there without the need to create, script or figure it out for yourself. If you can't find exactly what you're looking for, you'll very likely find something that can be easily copied and modified to your needs.

Integration with both Autotask and ConnectWise Manage for two-way ticketing and asset management works seamlessly.

We migrated to Datto after their purchase of Open Mesh. We were in need of an RMM solution and their one-stop approach seemed to be a good fit. We have dozens of clients across industries with a combined 3,000 users. Our goal was the integration of all Datto products and services throughout the client base. We were trying to standardize products across clients and having a decent experience with the Open Mesh team and their product leading up to the merger, it seemed like a natural fit.
  • Sales calls and sales engineers
  • ALTO Backup solution was decent
  • A few support reps were helpful
  • Their hardware was terrible. We had one product fail four times in 3 months, another fail twice in six months. Same client.
  • The RMM is poorly coded, designed and implemented.
  • Autotask was a decent integration until the integration failed and couldn't be resolved.
Datto is probably suited best for providers that are starting out or don't care much about client satisfaction. Hardware failures should be the exception, not the rule. It is the other way around with Datto products. They have horrible support and management [in my experience] and really don't want to solve any problems. I used their File Protection service as well as their Workplace service, both were abysmal failures [in my opinion]. The file protection failed within two weeks of installation and could never be resolved. Workplace worked 50% of the time, the app crashed the other 50% of the time. New Dell PowerEdge with Windows 2019 so no, the hardware was not an issue.
  • A stable and reliable product
  • Quality customer support
  • Quality interaction when there is a problem with the company
  • I lost a client because of numerous hardware failures
  • I had a client that lost data because the Datto backup didn't work
  • I've spent more money in the implementation of Datto because of all the issues than my ROI for at least a year.
  • N-able N-central (formerly Solarwinds N-Central)
Both Datto and SolarWinds leave a lot to be desired but from a technological aspect, but SolarWinds products are substantially better. At least when they aren't being hacked. SolarWinds was an intuitive design with some decent features that made management much more seamless and, well profitable. Datto products are nearly impossible to implement out of the box and even after months of customization, their RMM products were terrible.
