  • I had to spend hours of my time watching their device for failures.
  • I also spent hours on the phone while they struggled to figure out what was wrong, randomly switching settings back and forth.
  • Second level support was better, but only to a point.
  • They continued to bill for months after the account was canceled and the service stopped working.

  • It has given a great option to sell to clients with a smaller budget. While it doesn't bring in as much money, it helps build more confidence in service from the client.
  • Having an option to sell to clients with a smaller budget is always useful, because it shows a willingness to understand their perspective. Datto is great for filling that selling option for these particular clients.

  • There was one major incident where we were infected with RansomWare. After shutting down the file server, I was able to use the Datto to restore the data while, at the same time, running it as a VM from the backups. I don't recall how many bitcoins the attacker wanted, but it saved us at least that, plus all the man-hours it would have required to deal with the data corruption, whether we paid the ransom or not.
  • A server died one day, as they sometimes do, but we were able to maintain operations because the Datto ran them as VMs.
  • The initial cost was pricey, since we needed 2 units for all of our data. Monthly was also costly, but we felt at the time it was worth it to have reliability in our backups.

  • We've saved some money by consolidating backups offsite to the one appliance and letting it store backups in one location offsite, rather than trying to maintain several different platforms or connections.
  • Negatively, since the appliance doesn't expand in storage, we've got sunk costs into this unit and will have to move to something else to continue growing. I work in healthcare and we can't just purge charts and stop backing up information, I've got to expand my ability to back up that information.

  • Increase technician time in solution backup issues, which has caused our contracts to become less profitable.
  • An increase in the costs of the product, with no discounts due to volume we have done with them, has hurt.

  • Datto is an investment, but it's also an insurance policy against being down due to Server Issues, Human Error, Power Outage, Unexpected Updates or even Fire. With Datto, you have access to your company's data from an offsite location, all you need is the internet.
  • It is hard to calculate what negative impact is in relation to ROI as, like I stated, it is an investment, but is also a way to continue with your business should something happen to your server. Nobody plans on crashing their car on a given day and being without wheels, just like nobody plans on their Server crashing and losing all their data on their server, but with Datto it's like the crash never happened. To really calculate ROI, you would have to know when you are going to be down and for how long, with or without a Datto backup solution.
  • As for Positive, we have had a great experience educating our clients on this solution, as everyone wants some type of backup, and when we do our demo illustrating a server offline and spinning up the VM, they can't tell that it's a VM, and want that solution for their business.

  • Datto is used on a regular basis to restore file server files lost as a result of user error. Man-hours saved alone justify the cost of the Datto solution.
  • I haven't used Datto in the DR scenario yet, but, based on tests, it will be invaluable in such a situation.

  • Datto has had a positive impact on our business because of the different type of services it provides. They have a product that works for any company.
  • The small Datto devices can be affordable, but the larger ones, 18TB and up, might be too expensive for the type of hardware they sell.
  • However, there's also the option of using your own hardware, and Datto provides their software to install. This is a good option to reduce costs while selling local backup appliances and making a good profit from it.

  • For a business that has been hit by crypto malware, [this is worth] the price of the business.
  • Peace of mind knowing that all your files are protected all the time.
  • Very easy to setup and once it's installed there is no hassle.

  • We finally found a way to stop being buried by backup tickets... Datto just works, and we get to spend our time working on other things... It's hard to calculate the actual ROI of fewer BDR tickets, but my techs are happy and working with customers instead of back-end BDR noise.

  • Thus far the impact has been negative and the ROI is negative. The product has not been doing all of the things it was advertised to do.
  • Hard to rely on a product that is supposed to synchronize your data offsite but has been failing for two years but it does not tell you where the problems lie.

  • Everything with Datto has been positive. We now have a real Business Continuity Solution that we can stand behind and know that when that emergency happens we will be the hero's when we get the client back up and running in less than 15 minutes from a fatal crash.
  • Our clients have trusted us for 16 years and with the Datto products in our portfolio we know we won't let our clients down when it comes to safe guarding their data.
  • Datto Drive is the perfect alternative to Drop Box and mainly for security reasons. We trust Datto, Drop Box not so much!

  • Positive: backups auto-verify their job to determine if the server is "bootable". This provides compliance clients with the ease-of-mind of knowing their servers are restorable.
  • Positive: hands-off, minimal time needed to manage and administer the backups and appliance.
  • Negative: appliance is very pricey as the hardware is much higher end than most BDRs.
