We use it as a replacement and enhancement to the native Salesforce tools. DT is more powerful and easier to use. It is used by several departments. We definitely depend on it and have many, many JobBuilder batches using a whole variety of DTs.
  • Allows you to preview your changes before actually making them.
  • Help and training are really good and informative.
  • Would be nice to have Search ability in more areas. Sometimes you have to scroll thru hundreds of fields on multiple objects to find what you are looking for.
  • Sometimes when you want to change a condition, clicking on the condition brings up the condition and value, other times you have to scroll thru and find the field again which is frustrating.
I am fairly new to DT having only used it for about 9 months, but so far am impressed with the features and ability to update Salesforce.
  • We have many automations run using JobBuilder. They do all kinds of things that used to be handled manually. Not sure the exact savings, but it is huge.
  • One area in particular that we've been able to save on staff is by writing a bunch of de-dupe scenarios. We lost 2 people this year to retirement and have not had to replace them.
DemandTools is much more robust than the Salesforce Dataloader. I can do so much more and more quickly with DemandTools.

  • De-duping
  • Updating Salesforce
  • Ability to schedule scenarios
  • Keeping data in sync
  • One of our SF Admins has done an incredible job writing many de-dupe scenarios which have significantly reduced the amount of manual de-duping necessary.
  • The Admissions Counselors assigned to each student change a couple of times a year and the assignment rules can be quite complex. DT allows us to keep these updated with a minimum of effort.
  • We continue to tweak and improve our de-duping processes.
  • As I learn more about DT, I know I'll find plenty of new uses for it.
DemandTools has enabled us to keep a lean staff and still address the many demands (no pun intended) that working in Higher Education throws at us.

To be honest, I have not had to contact support as my boss and co-worker both are well-versed in DemandTools and have been able to answer any questions so far.
  • De-duping. Our many scenarios save tons of tedious manual de-duping.
  • I like the ability to review records and link to them in Salesforce before updating.
  • Sometimes searching thru to find a field can be a pain. It would be nice to have some sort of search ability to narrow down the many fields.
  • Sometimes when you select a field to update it is ready for update. Other times, you have to search thru the field list to find the field even tho you've already selected it in the Conditions.
DemandTools works great, but would be even better if some of the usability issues I've mentioned were addressed.
It's done everything we've needed it to do.
There has not been a time since I started 9 months ago that I've encountered any kind of downtime.
I seldom notice a lag that causes me to wonder what's going on.

Currently, the Revenue Operations team uses Demand Tools. We use it mostly for data imports and exports. The ability to merge values with existing values already in Salesforce is a lifesaver. Without this tool, performing data imports would take 100x longer.
  • Merge new values with existing values already in Salesforce.
  • Finds the SF ID when given match criteria.
  • Generates restore file prior to importing new data.
  • The UI is a bit slow and clunky.
  • Native Mac functionality.
Merging new data with existing data. We have quite a few multi-select picklist fields in our Salesforce instance that need to be updated regularly. Being able to merge new data with existing data is extremely helpful. In fact, I just recommended Demand Tools to another user yesterday for this reason!
  • Huge ROI, again, being able to merge data is extremely useful!
I have only used Salesforce's Dataloader.

We use demand tools on a daily basis. We are duplicating our contact records based on set rigid or loose scenarios. Only the CRM department is using this tool. We find it to be very easy to use once you get to know how to use it. The UI can look a bit old school but it works well. It addresses the problem of duplication of records in our system.
  • It can run automatically over night.
  • It is much more feature packed then standard salesforce de-duping.
  • We enjoy the ability to grab large amounts of records with this tool.
  • The UI could be different, as it is older looking.
  • More tutorial videos for newer users.
Any scenario where you have multiple records from many objects where duplication is a problem. If marketing teams or other teams load mass amounts of unclean data. Demand tools can help with cleaning/merging this data. Where it's less appropriate is when you have lots of good data or if you have humans entering data.
  • Being able to dedup data on a mass scale.
  • Cleaning up and merging large amounts of data.
  • Working with custom objects even though it takes much longer.
  • API calls are used when working with custom objects.
Standard salesforce de-duping does not have enough function to perform the things we need.

  • When data in your org is messy and unclean
  • when manual de-duping is not fast enough
  • when new data is entering the system daily.
  • We use the find and discovery tool to get data from our org
  • We have created scenarios to keep our system clean
  • We have users use demand tools to pull IDs
  • using the email validator
We find demand tools easy to use and functions very well. With its robust capabilities we have been able to clean our system in a much quicker fashion. Without demand tools it would be hard to keep up with the amount of records that come into the system. We recommend demand tools as it has solved a large business problem for us.

  • Product Usability
The ability to de-dup mass amounts of records in our system. This was the most important factor as without the bulk features we would not have the ability to see de-duping on a scale that we need. We also enjoy the built in fuzzy matching logic that demand tools provides.
we would not change our evaluation process
  • Implemented in-house
No
Change management was minimal
Demand tools does not install into salesforce so there was no issue with that. We just need to to understand the proper permissions when starting up the tool
  • permissions with the users
  • initial login and data work
there we no issues with the tool once we understood each feature it provided.
No
It is not in the budget and we do not have enough issues with demand tools to justify a purchase of premium support.
No
When we first got the tool we had a 1:1 call with a support agent to walk us through all the features and function of the tool. We were not just left alone to figure out the tool ourselves. We still refer back to this recorded meeting today to see how things are done in demand tools if we have a problem.
  • Single table de-dup with standard objects
  • Find and discover IDs from my own CSV
  • Update/upserting new records
  • Custom object de-duping requires lots of api calls.
Over all demand tools does the job and does it well. We don't have any issues with its function or its usability. The only thing i would ask for is a Mac version

DemandTools is used in the office of admission for a variety of business activities. It is most commonly used to locate and merge duplicate records within our CRM, Salesforce.com. Several scenarios have been created, from very strict to more relaxed criteria, that help identify duplicates in the system. Almost any field within a record can be used for comparison, and DemandTools helps you to choose which record should be kept and which can be deleted. We also use DemandTools as a way to update a batch of records at one time. It's as simple as identifying the group that needs to be updated, telling the software what to update, and letting it run. Lastly, DemandTools is great at updating our CRM with an outside Excel list of records. This is a tool we use at least one per week, but usually more often.
  • One strength of DemandTools is how simple it is to use. It's set up in a very user-friendly format, with icons that you can hover over that will explain how to use that particular section.
  • Additionally, DemandTools is very customizable so that each user can tailor it to their specific needs.
  • Also, as an add-on tool, DemandTools is great at running in the background without slowing down your computer or any other concurrently running programs.
  • The biggest area for improvement is related to its de-duplication tool. It would be nice to be able to default certain fields (such as Lead Source) from the record being deleted and have them overwrite the values in the same fields on the surviving record. The system allows you to keep certain values, but it has to be done one-by-one.
For organizations that use Salesforce, DemandTools is a great add-on. Licenses are not very expensive and are well worth the cost. As previously mentioned, the two most-commonly used features we use are the de-duplicator and batch updating records.
  • With so many inquiries coming from dozens of sources, being able to remove duplicate records has been a huge return on investment. This can be seen, first and foremost, in the money saved by not mailing any print materials to the same student more than once.
  • Similarly, having the ability to mass update records in batch format has allowed us to ensure that our coding is up-to-date and as accurate as possible.

DemandTools is an add-on to Salesforce, through the App Exchange. We chose it because we use Salesforce.com as our CRM.
Because DemandTools seems to be the go-to software for updating and de-duping records, we most likely would not change our evaluation and selection process.

Yes, the product is fairly easy to learn without official training. Depending on the users, this approach may be sufficient. However, I think it's best to always be trained by the actual designers of the product.
  • Mass Impact (batch updating records already in the system)
  • Single Tape De-duplicator (identifying and removing duplicate records)
  • Mass Effect (importing an external list of records into the system)
  • Setting up the de-duplicator can be a little tricky at first, but if set up correctly, it works great.
DemandTools is a great addition to any organization using Salesforce.com. Its user-friendly and straight-forward set-up makes it worth the investment.

DemandTools is used to mass edit Salesforce records to support the Sales team. We use it for a variety of tasks - including uploading new data with PeopleImport, standardizing data, de-duping Salesforce, reassigning accounts/contacts when we realign territories. Currently, I'm the only user as we only have one Admin. I am looking to work with it more regularly and have set data-maintenance tasks on a regular basis.
  • Data Standardization - it's a truly beautiful thing using this tool. There's more than one module that will let you update every record in the system if you have to, or you can filter it down to only update records that match particular criteria.
  • Data Maintenance - At least 10% of our database is duplicates. DemandTools works wonders in helping us clean those up. Especially helpful are the Lead2Contact and Lead2Account deduplication tool. We use these most in correlation with our marketing automation tool which creates new records as leads if the email address doesn't match. Running a quick scenario in Lead2Contact will merge the new leads with existing contacts without losing data.
  • Data Format - The ability to format my data uniformly brings joy to my OCD heart. Built in to the software are programs for North American businesses to standardize information. Phone numbers, states, countries, addresses, etc.
  • Better scheduling of tasks. This is something I would like to do but I haven't figured out how to do it yet
  • Better UI - I feel like I'm in the 90s or early 2000s
  • Ability to use punctuation in things - like searching for all accounts with a comma in them or a semi colon
If all you need is one aspect of the functionality, maybe it isn't the best - there's probably a cloud solution out there that will fit your need. But nothing - and I've reached out to the Salesforce Admin community about it - compares to the functionality and cost. Sure, there are tons of cloud dedupe tools out there - and a lot of them are pretty cool. But they don't have the additional functionality of DemandTools, like reassigning objects (any object), or mass-editing data. Additionally, DemandTools touches basically every Salesforce object. Most other solutions are limited to what objects they can interact with.
  • Increased employee efficiency from data standardization / deduplication
  • Faster touches on leads with the list importing tools
  • Cleaner data (see increased employee efficiency) which makes for a happier admin
We went with DT because it met our needs at the time and was very cost effective. Cost is based completely on the number of users, so you're only going to pay for how many users you have (even though actual licenses to the software are dependent on how many you want - we just have one). Also, Salesforce Data Loader is really hard to use and their data importing functions are awful.

I am the only one who uses DemandTools. I am our CRM Administrator and Marketing Coordinator. Around 30% of my job is managing the CRM (Salesforce). DemandTools & its sister product People Import have provided me with significant time savings and have greatly improved the ability for me to fulfill all the roles of my job.
I'm the only one that uses it, so I'm the only one that supports it. DemandTools customer service is very prompt so if I have an issue, I just open a case and they have generally gotten back to me in a matter of two hours or less. No internal support necessary
  • Deduplication
  • Reassigning Territories (I do this at least once a quarter with over 100,000 accounts)
  • Modifying data formatting - like addresses. Or populating missing info (like if the Country should be USA but is blank)
No
  • Price
  • Product Features
Price was probably the biggest one. DemandTools provides the biggest bang-for-our-buck. It offers so much functionality for the same price that other vendors offered only one piece of functionality. Going into the decision, there was no prior experience from anyone. Perhaps a "I think the admin at XYZ company uses this," but that was about it. The Salesforce Admins I knew all pushed me to using DemandTools.
Maybe try to find some other vendors just to truly understand what the offering is. We've been with DemandTools since January of 2014, so I'm sure the software world has changed. At the time, it was definitely the best. It continues to have a very strong reputation amongst the Dreamforce crowd.
  • Merging. So much better than the SF UI!!
  • Running the same scenario over and over - once you set it up, you can just reuse it over and over. Especially helpful for things you do routinely, like formatting address or reassigning things.
  • Scheduling things to run at regular intervals is hard
No
It's an old-school UI, but the training they provide is great so you get to learn how to properly use every module.
