We use it as a replacement and enhancement to the native Salesforce tools. DT is more powerful and easier to use. It is used by several departments. We definitely depend on it and have many, many JobBuilder batches using a whole variety of DTs.
  • Allows you to preview your changes before actually making them.
  • Help and training are really good and informative.
  • Would be nice to have Search ability in more areas. Sometimes you have to scroll thru hundreds of fields on multiple objects to find what you are looking for.
  • Sometimes when you want to change a condition, clicking on the condition brings up the condition and value, other times you have to scroll thru and find the field again which is frustrating.
I am fairly new to DT having only used it for about 9 months, but so far am impressed with the features and ability to update Salesforce.
  • We have many automations run using JobBuilder. They do all kinds of things that used to be handled manually. Not sure the exact savings, but it is huge.
  • One area in particular that we've been able to save on staff is by writing a bunch of de-dupe scenarios. We lost 2 people this year to retirement and have not had to replace them.
DemandTools is much more robust than the Salesforce Dataloader. I can do so much more and more quickly with DemandTools.

Some coding knowledge is nice to have, but is not necessary.
A good knowledge of the organization's many custom objects and fields.
Detail oriented mind set is helpful.
  • De-duping
  • Updating Salesforce
  • Ability to schedule scenarios
  • Keeping data in sync
  • One of our SF Admins has done an incredible job writing many de-dupe scenarios which have significantly reduced the amount of manual de-duping necessary.
  • The Admissions Counselors assigned to each student change a couple of times a year and the assignment rules can be quite complex. DT allows us to keep these updated with a minimum of effort.
  • We continue to tweak and improve our de-duping processes.
  • As I learn more about DT, I know I'll find plenty of new uses for it.
DemandTools has enabled us to keep a lean staff and still address the many demands (no pun intended) that working in Higher Education throws at us.

To be honest, I have not had to contact support as my boss and co-worker both are well-versed in DemandTools and have been able to answer any questions so far.
  • De-duping. Our many scenarios save tons of tedious manual de-duping.
  • I like the ability to review records and link to them in Salesforce before updating.
  • Sometimes searching thru to find a field can be a pain. It would be nice to have some sort of search ability to narrow down the many fields.
  • Sometimes when you select a field to update it is ready for update. Other times, you have to search thru the field list to find the field even tho you've already selected it in the Conditions.
DemandTools works great, but would be even better if some of the usability issues I've mentioned were addressed.
It's done everything we've needed it to do.
There has not been a time since I started 9 months ago that I've encountered any kind of downtime.
I seldom notice a lag that causes me to wonder what's going on.

I use DemandTools nearly every day as the Salesforce Administrator. I use Mass Effect and Mass Impact the most to help insert new records in bulk to mass edit records. We have done extensive rebuilding of our org over the past year and without the ability to update tens of thousands of records in bulk, it would have been nearly impossible.
  • More functional than DataLoader.
  • Easily make changes to thousands of records at a time.
  • Identify dupe accounts quickly and mass merge.
  • The UX is atrocious- like windows 95 bad. It needs help.
  • Needs a Mac version. I need to use a PC emulator to run the software.
  • Cloud based would be even better but I do understand the value of desktop based.
It's an incredibly powerful suite of tools that every Salesforce administrator needs to perform their job. If you need to clean 100s of thousands of records like we did, dedupe and mass merge, mass reassign after staff turnover or just backfill data to every record, DemandTools is more than well suited to meet your needs.
  • Massive Time Savings. Being able to ID and mass merge thousands of dupes has saved countless days.
  • Data cleanup and data integrity are easier to manage with DemandTools.
I found DemandTools to be a more robust solution that others on the market and despite the aged interface, its still very powerful and easy to use. I needed an all in one solution and DemandTools provides me all the functionality i need and then some.

Team members from within Information Systems, Sales Operations, Marketing Operations, Business Intelligence and the lead Salesforce Administrator are the primary users of DemandTools.
1
Our Salesforce Administrator handles all in-house support and training for any other team members that need to use DemandTools. In order to use it, a user goes through 1:1 training with the admin on the specific functionality needing to be used and then are tested using dummy data and DemandTools connected to a Sandbox.
  • Data Cleanliness
  • Mass Update/Insert of Records
  • Deduping records
  • Re-assigning ownership after employee turnover
  • We have been able to repair corrupted data by pulling historical reports in SFDC and setting corrupted data values back to their original value prior to the change
  • We've successfully removed or merged 40k+ instances and counting of duplicate account records in our org
  • We are able to quickly add target accounts to our org each quarter and get them in front of Sales Reps immediately.
  • Email Connect is a feature we'll be using soon to help validate our database iteratively by enriching a different batch of records each both to ensure the full database is verified each year
  • We've never used Report Edit but with the number of reports we now have, it would be fun to explore the benefits of it
It's a no brainer really. We use this tool every single day and couldn't do our jobs without it. It's a critical tool in our Administrator toolkit to ensure we can keep our org running smoothly. Sure, the interface leaves a lot to be desired but if you care more about performance than looks, DemandTools is the right choice.
No
We needed a product that was more robust that Salesforce DataLoader that we could use to help maintain our Salesforce org and DemandTools was recommended to us by other SFDC Admins.
I wouldn't change it too much. I'd say it would have been better to have an evaluation plan to go through each feature, understand it's pros and cons, test it and see if it provides value in a more deliberate process than just toying around and giving the thumbs up for purchase
No
I didn't know it existed, if it does.
No
We've actually never sent in a support ticket nor have we needed it. Its a pretty straightforward to use product which I think is the key to exceptional support.

Currently, the Revenue Operations team uses Demand Tools. We use it mostly for data imports and exports. The ability to merge values with existing values already in Salesforce is a lifesaver. Without this tool, performing data imports would take 100x longer.
  • Merge new values with existing values already in Salesforce.
  • Finds the SF ID when given match criteria.
  • Generates restore file prior to importing new data.
  • The UI is a bit slow and clunky.
  • Native Mac functionality.
Merging new data with existing data. We have quite a few multi-select picklist fields in our Salesforce instance that need to be updated regularly. Being able to merge new data with existing data is extremely helpful. In fact, I just recommended Demand Tools to another user yesterday for this reason!
  • Huge ROI, again, being able to merge data is extremely useful!
I have only used Salesforce's Dataloader.

We use demand tools on a daily basis. We are duplicating our contact records based on set rigid or loose scenarios. Only the CRM department is using this tool. We find it to be very easy to use once you get to know how to use it. The UI can look a bit old school but it works well. It addresses the problem of duplication of records in our system.
  • It can run automatically over night.
  • It is much more feature packed then standard salesforce de-duping.
  • We enjoy the ability to grab large amounts of records with this tool.
  • The UI could be different, as it is older looking.
  • More tutorial videos for newer users.
Any scenario where you have multiple records from many objects where duplication is a problem. If marketing teams or other teams load mass amounts of unclean data. Demand tools can help with cleaning/merging this data. Where it's less appropriate is when you have lots of good data or if you have humans entering data.
  • Being able to dedup data on a mass scale.
  • Cleaning up and merging large amounts of data.
  • Working with custom objects even though it takes much longer.
  • API calls are used when working with custom objects.
Standard salesforce de-duping does not have enough function to perform the things we need.

Analytical personality with a willingness to learn new things.
  • When data in your org is messy and unclean
  • when manual de-duping is not fast enough
  • when new data is entering the system daily.
  • We use the find and discovery tool to get data from our org
  • We have created scenarios to keep our system clean
  • We have users use demand tools to pull IDs
  • using the email validator
We find demand tools easy to use and functions very well. With its robust capabilities we have been able to clean our system in a much quicker fashion. Without demand tools it would be hard to keep up with the amount of records that come into the system. We recommend demand tools as it has solved a large business problem for us.

  • Product Usability
The ability to de-dup mass amounts of records in our system. This was the most important factor as without the bulk features we would not have the ability to see de-duping on a scale that we need. We also enjoy the built in fuzzy matching logic that demand tools provides.
we would not change our evaluation process
  • Implemented in-house
No
Change management was minimal
Demand tools does not install into salesforce so there was no issue with that. We just need to to understand the proper permissions when starting up the tool
  • permissions with the users
  • initial login and data work
there we no issues with the tool once we understood each feature it provided.
No
It is not in the budget and we do not have enough issues with demand tools to justify a purchase of premium support.
No
When we first got the tool we had a 1:1 call with a support agent to walk us through all the features and function of the tool. We were not just left alone to figure out the tool ourselves. We still refer back to this recorded meeting today to see how things are done in demand tools if we have a problem.
  • Single table de-dup with standard objects
  • Find and discover IDs from my own CSV
  • Update/upserting new records
  • Custom object de-duping requires lots of api calls.
Over all demand tools does the job and does it well. We don't have any issues with its function or its usability. The only thing i would ask for is a Mac version

My organization uses DemandTools to keep our marketing and enrollment data within Salesforce merged, deduped, and accurate. Its use benefits our entire organization. I use it to make sure all our leads get merged with one another, as we receive them from multiple sources, through multiple engagements with our prospective families. This allows for advanced analysis across the leads' entire lifecycle, by allowing us to merge and keep all campaign member records from each individual lead.
  • Reduces time spent manually merging duplicate records within our database
  • Allows me to fully customize the scenarios I run to query for potential duplicates
  • Much faster and more efficient than searching for potential duplicates through the SFDC UI
  • Allows me to define the data I want to keep on the resulting record
  • I would love if DemandTools could be changed to work more like CRM Fusion's other related product, DupeBlocker. I would like if it handled duplicates within the Single Table Dedupe in the same fashion as DupeBlocker, where the older, original lead remains the "master" and the newer lead's data gets appended to it. With DemandTools, you are limited in your options for master record selection. Within DemandTools, I am forced to choose "Newer Record" as my master, because I want to retain the most recent contact details. However, this causes me to also overwrite my lead created date with the newer lead's information, thereby resulting in lead created date values which don't reflect the true creation date of the original lead.
  • I would also prefer the ability to create tasks with details of the merge.
DemandTools is well suited to identify and merge duplicate records within a Salesforce.com CRM database, especially one with multiple entry points (i.e. web forms, other systems, uploads, etc.). It doesn't provide real-time merging on insert, you'll need a product like DupeBlocker for that, but it's great for batch cleansing, updating, and merging existing records. They also have great customer support, which I always like to hear prior to selecting a product.
  • When I first started in my current position, prior to running DemandTools single table dedupe, we appeared to have had 70% of our applicant bypass our marketing efforts, and apply directly. However, after an intense week of merging, I was able to reduce this number to 30%, which highlighted how our marketing efforts had helped influence 70% of our applicant class.
  • This product facilitates much better customer service, because once a new lead gets merged, it allows our outbound calling reps, email team, and analytics groups to see a full picture of a lead's past activities. We typically receive leads with varying levels of data quality, accuracy, and amount of contact information (name, address, email, phone, etc.). I can only configure our on-insert merges to work for ones I'm 100% confident should be merged. However, with DemandTools, I can query for duplicates on much looser criteria, thereby casting a wider net, to help potentially identify duplicate leads that may not have been caught otherwise.
I have previously used native batch deduplication functionality within a previous CRM system, RecruitmentPlus. While I liked how that system could run multiple queries at once, to look for duplicates under multiple scenarios, it lacked the flexibility DemandTools provides to create my own fully-customizable scenarios.

I was able to get a recorded version of a webinar sent to me when I had to drop-off prior to completion for another meeting. It allowed me to finish the training on my own time, without having to repeat the entire thing.
