What is DeskTime?

DeskTime is a time tracking software that enables teams to create shifts, manage absences, track productivity. Freelancers use DeskTime to track their time, send timesheets to clients, and generate invoices. This software aims to boost productivity, keep projects organized, and save time by eliminating manual timesheets. DeskTime offers an automatic time tracker that calculates your productivity and provides reliable data. You can also use DeskTime for project time tracking, which provides an overview of your progress and bills clients for all of your completed work. The software's time billing feature establishes hourly rates and calculates project costs based on your timesheets.

Another notable feature is the built-in Pomodoro timer, which reminds users to take breaks from work every 52, 60, or 90 minutes. This improves productivity levels by reducing burnout and enhances time management. Employees can also set private time to take care of tasks that are not related to their work. DeskTime will not track time or computer activity while the private time feature is in effect. Businesses can use DeskTime to ensure that employees maintain a healthy work-life balance and monitor time spent away from work with offline time tracking. You can categorize offline time as productive, unproductive, or neutral. This software is extremely accessible and offers a mobile app that allows businesses to monitor their team's performance from any location.

DeskTime offers scheduling capabilities that are more efficient and quicker than using traditional spreadsheets. The work schedules provide daily, weekly, and monthly overviews and prevent overstaffing or understaffing. Businesses can easily combine their time tracking and shift planning with DeskTime, eliminating the need for separate and costly systems. Employees have the flexibility to manage their schedules and identify their preferred shifts. DeskTime's scheduling feature also enables managers to generate detailed performance reports on productivity, efficiency, and offline time.

Businesses have the option to purchase additional billing and invoicing features that automatically convert time tracking data into invoices. You can create reusable templates or save client details to streamline your billing practices and shift your focus to completing projects. The invoices are downloaded directly to your work computer or immediately sent to the client. DeskTime provides an overview of all invoices and organizes them by number, recipient, status. You can also enable reminders for clients have outstanding bills and missed their payment due date.

We're using DeskTime to track the team working hours, the app they are using, and we are also able to put the current task allocation here. This helps us to answer the question: "What are you working on right now?". By looking at the admin dashboard, we can see who is currently online [and] who is assigned to a specific project. The data is also easy to export to connect it with other apps.
  • Time Tracking - Just open the app and forget it
  • Dashboard Report - Detailed, easy to export
  • App resources usage - it's lagging sometimes
DeskTime is best for a company that has many remote workers that spread into several areas.
  • Reporting Dashboard
  • Good Investment, with the report you can decide which other paid apps [are] not being used in the organization
The user interface and user experience are much better compared to the other same app. It is also cheaper with a bunch of extra features!

Every department in our company currently uses Desktime to measure productivity of our employees while they are clocked in. We also use it to track hours logged and worked for pay. It also allows our employees to account for any idle or down time. Some employees also use it to track and manage special projects they are working on. It is used by management for the reporting features so we can see who our top performers are in different KPI’s.
  • Tracks productivity
  • Takes screenshots of activity
  • Ranks users based on performance
  • Can create and manage many teams
  • Can see all hours worked, arrivals and departures
  • Can dictate which websites are productive and unproductive
  • The ability to change or modify private time by management account
  • Inability for a user to turn off desktime
  • More detailed tracking of internet based activities
When we made the decision to go cloud based and send our employees home to work remotely we needed something that would help us and them manage their time and keep everyone on track. Desktime makes the team more aware of how they are spending their time both individually and as a team. It allows them to see and track what makes them most productive and what times of the day they are most engaged. Keeps projects on track.
  • Ease of installation and implementation
  • Reliability for time tracking
  • Production tracking with screenshots
  • It makes us feel like our employees are more honest about their work
  • We feel that we able to more fairly assess our employees capabilities
  • Ensures us that our remote team is doing the work we pay for with little to no supervision
  • Accountability of time spent
Desktime is the first time management software I have used.

DeskTime is used at our company to track employee time for project tickets. It's not being used by an entire organization, but on a team-by-team basis. The business problem that it addresses for this company is finding a good, efficient way to track how much time is being spent per employee, per project ticket.
  • Personal time management
  • Customer Service
  • Easy to use UI
  • Potential to over-monitor employee time usage
  • No task tracking feature
  • Realization of own poor time management
I would say that a scenario where DeskTime is well suited is for personal use in a private business. DeskTime does exactly what it advertises, and it does it very well. However, I think there is a lot of potential for over-monitoring of your employees, or over-monitoring from high ups in larger companies. In a private business for personal use, you're only monitoring your own time management, so you can adjust as needed.
  • URL tracking
  • Absence Calendar
  • Offline/Online tracking
  • Increased awareness of own time management
  • Better understanding of ticket time predictions vs reality
  • Easier observation of team's out of office status
I was not a part of the selection of DeskTime, but DeskTime seems to have the easiest to use UI, the best rated customer service, and a substantial feature set as compared to some of the competitors. I was not aware of price differences for enterprise use, but I assume it is just as competitive as the others in order to have been selected.
