What is DoX CMS?

DoX CMS is a web-based content management system developed by DoX Systems. According to the vendor, it is designed to manage technical documentation and facilitate content production. The system is suitable for companies of all sizes and is used by various professions and industries, including technical writers, content creators, documentation managers, training professionals, and sales and marketing teams.

Key Features

Structured LW-DITA format: DoX CMS utilizes the structured LW-DITA format, allowing users to write independent sections of publications and adapt content for different situations using tags. The vendor claims that changes made to recurring sections are automatically updated throughout all instances, ensuring consistency. Users can customize the content style based on specific situations and compile new publications by selecting and combining previous content. Additionally, the system supports publishing in various file formats, including PDF, HTML, DITA, WebHelp, and EclipseHelp.

Reuse of content: DoX CMS enables the reuse of content across different types of documentation, such as product guides, training materials, sales and marketing materials, and proposal and contract materials. According to the vendor, the same base content can be used across different versions of product guides, with the system retrieving the appropriate values based on the publication. This feature allows content to be written once and combined in different ways to create various publications.

Comprehensive web-based CMS: DoX CMS is a comprehensive web-based content management system. Users can edit and manage content from any device with a web browser, eliminating the need for device-specific installations. The vendor states that the system offers version control to preserve previous versions of content and publications. Content can be reviewed and commented on using revision-based workflows, and it can be marked and filtered in different ways. Users can create and edit style sheets using CSS format. The system also supports the management of PDF, image, video, and audio files attached to documents. According to the vendor, direct publishing to connected locations within the system is possible, and the system automatically assembles XML translation files and places translated content.

Ability to manage multilingual content: DoX CMS allows for the management of language-specific content. Users can maintain content in multiple languages within the system, according to the vendor.

Flexibility and expandability: DoX CMS uses LW-DITA, a simplified version of the DITA standard that can be expanded with additional DITA features if needed. The system employs generic content types and tags, making it easy to adopt content written in DoX CMS in other systems. The vendor claims that DoX CMS can be integrated with PDM/PLM/ERP systems, and additional add-ons are available to enhance functionality.

Collaboration and sharing: DoX CMS promotes collaboration by making all content accessible to users. Users can share responsibility for writing sections and review each other's work seamlessly, according to the vendor.
