We use it across the organization. It is a good backup with history support and helps me easily share content with different team members in my organization and/or clients.
  • It has top-notch security, which is highly appreciated by my clients.
  • The history feature saved us numerous amounts of time from re-doing work.
  • Ability to track who made changes to a document, and comment on it helped us with keeping content organized and avoiding conflicts.
  • Recently we started integrating Dropbox into other product management and communication tools such as Slack and Monday. Works really good.
  • Once we had a major problem where one of the employee accidentally deleted lots of data and had to restore. It appears that this mechanism work much less effective than restoring a group of files. Eventually it took Dropbox about 2 months with resolving the issue, and us additional 2 weeks of cleanup afterwards.
  • Dropbox is getting very expensive and there are today some alternatives that have better price to value ratio.
It is very good for small organizations or very large organizations. Everything in between may have problems with the sheer cost of maintaining the users' costs. Also, it is not recommended if your company has a huge amount of data as currently, Dropbox lowered the amount of storage they're offering for small businesses.
  • Ability to work seamlessly from my file explorer without using the website interface
  • Content is integrated naturally on my pc (without "my content" and "shared with me" which are very confusing)
  • Ability of the admin to see who deleted content and when, and then restore it

  • When we had to restore a large portion of our database, it took Dropbox about 2 month to handle the problem, and eventually we got a very huge mess. Some of the files were never restored, and we lost money and reputation. Dropbox, on their part, did not do but the bare minimum to help us with this, nor they took responsibility for their inability to supply us with the backup and restore features they were committed to.
Google Drive UI is VERY messy. It is not convenient to use, and its integration to the desktop is arbitrary...
OneDrive sync functions tend to break and lots of time we found ourselves wondering why a work we just saved disappeared, only to find out that it was overridden by the server version, and that our newer version is available as a revision of the server...
Copy was actually pretty decent and cost effective, but the product was cancelled.

Because of the very high price of Dropbox, we only allowed a third of our employees to use it. These are the people who handle content and/or graphics within our company. Also the CEO and COO are using Dropbox, with the COO handling all the files and making sure the content is backed up on external drive weekly.
6
Actually, no skill is needed, since the Desktop software is very intuitive. We never had a problem with a user not knowing what to do with Dropbox. To use the more advanced feature, a basic need in SAAS will help, as users will need to go to the Dropbox admin site and look for their deleted file. On the other hand, Dropbox did a very good job with adding a small widget to MS Office, enabling the user to reach most of the needed function straight from the widget.
  • Share content with clients
  • Backup
  • Organize the content to be easily reachable to my team members from anywhere
  • We used Dropbox comments to review content with our clients
  • Also used Dropbox to get content we needed to work on, when we were working abroad
  • Some business meetings were saved because some very important content that was unreachable, was eventually retrieved from Dropbox
  • We are currently exploring Paper and its functions
Dropbox is very expensive and its price is not as competitive as it was. We are looking for an alternative that will enable as to subscribe more users at a more affordable cost.

Also, we did not like Dropbox customer service, and felt that they should have found a way to compensate us for some of the damage they were responsible for when restoring our data.
Yes
We used Copy, but sadly the product was discontinued.
We also reviewed Box, but it felt like Box is aimed for bigger companies than us.

Dropbox usability is top notch - Very easy to work with the Desktop app, and the admin site is very straight forward. Rarely we've had users with problems with the product. The only one problem we ever found, is that you can't share a sub-folder with a team member, if the folder itself is already shared with someone.
Probably not.
For the period we've been using Dropbox, we still think it is the most convenient product there is right now. I am very upset that the price per user is so high in Dropbox, thus forcing us to look for alternative, because otherwise, we would probably have stuck with this product for a very long time.

Change management was minimal
Nothing was needed because of the easy integration, and we've used Dropbox almost from the day 1
  • We've had to teach employees that deleting files on their computer will delete these files for the entire team
  • We've needed to teach employees not to work on local folders
Employees should be advised about how to work properly with Dropbox and sharing
  • Work only in designated folders
  • Delete files that can be removed for the entire team
  • Only temp files can be local
  • Selective sync and online save are imperative to keep the content secured
  • no training
It was easy to learn without training, but accidents happened and employees deleted file they shouldn't have
Out of the box configuration is great and we did not have to do any major changes.
  • Use selective sync
  • Have admin create and dictate the folder structure
  • Use the public folder for essentials only
No - there is no facility to customize the interface
No - we have not done any custom code
There is no special configuration possible that I know of

It integrates perfectly with file explorer. This is leagues away from competitors. We're working with this like it is a local folder.
  • Share files/folders with the team
  • Send links to files/folders
  • Send as a transfer file with receipt
  • Manage activity and restore data
  • The software itself is cumbersome, and I have no idea why it is needed
  • Restoring a folder can be difficult
Yes
It works pretty well and I can easily find my Barings there.
The only issue I've found is that while uploading content to Dropbox on iPhone, the Dropbox app must be in focus and the phone screen should be always on (Which is annoying because it drains the battery and the phone is unusable at that time)
We've used this when we were 2 users and when we were 20. It did not make any difference.
Even when we've had to scale down and fire 10 employees, it was still easy to salvage all the material and keep it organized within Dropbox.
We once had a problem where an employee accidentally deleted a major folder (Before we knew how to manage permissions properly) and we had to restore ~1,500 files and fast. We've contacted Dropbox and their support were with us all the way, through various talks, phone calls, emails, and a long communication to understand what and how to restore.
We manage to salvage 90% of the data. Sadly it was messy (because files and folders which were deleted prior to the incident have been restored as well) but it was better than facing our clients and telling them that we will not be able to deliver our work because of a data loss.
Since we mostly use Dropbos's File Explorer interface, it works seamlessly most of the time.
When working online, the preview sometimes displays low quality.
We integrate Dropbox with any service we work with that uses storage and did not encounter any problems
  • Jotforms
  • Nintex

  • Clickup
We use Dropbox as a link to our files everywhere. It is easy as it connects with a press of a button and authentication
  • Wordpress
I don't think so, but it would have been awesome if instead of uploading images from my PC I could just link them to Dropbox
  • File import/export
Countless other business offer integration with Dropbox with a click of a button. Up until now we did not encounter any service that needed file hosting and did not integrate with Dropbox

We've started with a standard version with one user paying, and the others using free accounts. Once the company grew to more than 5 employees, we've moved to the teams version in order to effectively sync everyone to the organization. This was made easy as a bit earlier Dropbox introduced the ability to have two accounts installed on the computer (Personal, and Professional)

We use Dropbox for Business for our internal corporate storage needs, as well as, the storage needs for each of our customers. In total, we currently have approximately 130 customers' mission critical files being stored on Dropbox. The files are segmented by company for security reasons obviously, and we use use an encryption scheme for the directory structures in addition to the Dropbox encryption and security.
  • Speed: Dropbox file access, for a mass market solution is incredibly fast, almost as fast as if we had our own dedicated servers.
  • Flexibility: From an admin perspective, we can move files, directory structures, close structures off, virtually anything we need to do, from any device we need to it.
  • Cost Effective: For the scope of the solution we have, we could not implement anything like this cheaper ourselves, nor can we buy it cheaper anywhere else and get the same level of service. Believe me, we have checked!
  • Mobile: As with most other services out there, mobile access could be better to mirror what we can do from a desktop browser. But that day is coming, and it is not just Dropbox, that is with most mass market SaaS solutions.
  • Complexity of Solutions: Okay Dropbox, you are simple, we get it, but how about ramping it up a bit. Perhaps it is time to step beyond the simple and add a little more complexity to the mix and compete against the next level of solutions. It would be interesting to see what happens there and what you come up with. Perhaps you would be able to disrupt their solutions a bit and simplify their models somewhat as well and really shake things up!
Dropbox is definitely best suited where what you are trying to accomplish is solved from a more linear approach. The easier it is to draw it out or the more "1 to 1" relationships you have in the solution the better suited Dropbox is for you or your customers. Where Dropbox's value starts to wane is where the need for very complex solutions are necessary. This becomes very apparent in the cost model, very quickly.

  • Our experience has been overall extremely positive from a cost lowering perspective...we immediately lowered costs from our old solution which was great, so we migrated once we decided that technically it was the right solution for our customers.
  • Then a funny thing happened...after the migration to Dropbox, we actually were able to lower our data storage fees to our customers because the bandwidth costs reduced more than we expected. So while we painted the same profit margin, we reduced cost to our customers, it became a win-win for everyone! This then also positioned us competitively in a slightly better position to win more customers which never hurts! Thanks Dropbox!!
The three mentioned above come to mind most readily, but there were others we compared against Dropbox. Dropbox may not have been the cheapest, or had the most rich feature/functionality set, but it was the most straightforward and simple to understand. It was the LEAST complex. And being the least complex we felt it would present the least problems. Sure enough we are aware of customers, friends and even team members that have tried the services mentioned above and have found them to be a bit difficult to use at times and too complex for their own good, among other things. So we are happy to go with the more simple, straight forward solution.

The single most important factor in our decision was the test of usability. We tested Dropbox to see if it would do what we wanted it to do before we migrated all our customers over to it and all our data. We knew other solutions out there would work but we weren't in love with them. When we tested Dropbox it was the last solution we were going to test and to be honest we did not think much of it...we thought it was too "light" of a solution for us. Boy were we wrong. We loved it! And to top it all off, it did everything we wanted and more!
To be honest, we would not have changed a thing. We tested and tested and test, vendor after vendor. Evaluation after evaluation! I believe we did it right.

  • The only issue we encountered was the initial architecture and building of the directory structure, which we quickly resolved with a bit of research. We quickly realized that the directory structure needed to be slightly different than usual which we researched and were able to implement without any difficulty. The lesson learned here is to plan, plan, plan ahead!!!
The implementation was actually very simple. Again, as stated previously, the most intriguing part of the entire exercise was the implementation of the directory structure for each account. Once you design and implement it for one, it becomes quite simple to replicate for each account you implement thereafter. You just really need to take time to ensure you implement the first perfectly and those that follow on will be likewise work efficiently and easily.
Generally we use the help topics and forums mostly. However, as Pro Business account holders we get priority email support and when they say priority, they mean it. The few times we have actually used it, mostly in the beginning, they replied to our questions immediately. The speed at which they responded was awesome. To be honest though, everything in the Dropbox system is so simple, and the help functionality and forums are so helpful, we very rarely ever even think of asking for priority level support.
No
Absolutely. When we first came onboard Dropbox, we had to split storage of one of our customers data across multiple Dropbox accounts. We were struggling with the most efficient way to do it to maximize speed, security and ensure that all the data "fit" together perfectly across all their web and mobile apps. Well, we used priority support and the Dropbox folks were really interested in this challenge and actually called us and worked with us on this opportunity to ensure it was handled the right way! Now that was awesome. Years later we still have the same solution in place and have never changed a thing other than replicating it across more Dropbox accounts as the customer's data has grown. The customer loves it and we love it!!! Now that was service and we are grateful!
  • They are all super easy to use. It literally mimics the directory structure of a desktop/laptop and it is very visually appealing.
  • I don't find anything difficult of cumbersome, really!
Yes
The mobile interface is great, however, like all other SaaS platforms, it is not easy to perform a lot of the more advance feature of the system on there. It is meant more for the normal, everyday feature functionality. If that is what you are using it for, you will be fine.
Dropbox is very easy and fun to use. It is very self evident and from a graphical user interface it is very intuitive. There is really nothing else to say about it.

I use Dropbox for Business in the communications department at my non-profit. It's been an invaluable tool in sharing design work between machines and users. I've used Dropbox for years and keep coming back to it because of its simplicity. The business functionality allows me to take it further into the creative work we do. I'm the only person on staff for communications work so things get overwhelming quickly, Dropbox for Business has helped me have some organization to the craziness. It allows me to bring in volunteers to help with work as well and share with other key staff members easily.
  • It allows me to easily share files with people inside and outside the organization. This really helps for large files as well.
  • It allows me to keep all of my computers in sync.
  • I love being able to communicate and share across the platform.
  • I wish I could do more project management with it, so it could be an end-to-end solution.
  • I HATE that you can't easily split up files to multiple hard drives, you have to do workarounds for that.
  • It can be hard to stomach the fees.
I think it works for most applications where you're sharing files. Google Drive is better for documents, slides, and spreadsheets. While dropbox has added Office 360 functionality to the product, nothing beats the ease and simplicity of Google Drive for documents. For any other files though, especially in the design world, it's awesome!

  • It's allowed me to get projects done easier.
  • I work on multiple platforms, so it helps to have the information at my fingertips at all times.
  • Helps with project management.
As said before, Dropbox is way better and easier to use for all types of files, it's just weaker than Google Drive for documents. I've never liked Google Drive for files, I think it gets muddled with all of its document functionality, so again, dropbox for files, Google Drive for documents.
3
It's used by myself and other people in communications and production. So we use it for all sorts of design work, including graphic design, video production, audio production, and print production.
3
It's really easy to use, so it's not too hard to teach it to people. There's not a whole lot of learning curve to Dropbox for business. I'd say the hardest hting is to just get across cloud storage with people and that Dropbox has both a desktop app that syncs stuff on your computer with the cloud.

  • Revisioning has helped with documents getting deleted.
  • It's been an easy way to share video proofs with people because of the web interface when sharing the file. They don't need software to watch the video.
  • I think it would be great to expand it to the whole staff.
  • It would be great to use it with more project management.
I love it, use it every day, and it always works. So as long as I have a budget for it, I will continue to purchase it. It's so easy to use and its totally worth it.
