[Dynatrace is being used] To support a complex legacy and cloud environment, mobile to mainframe. Current use is primarily with operation teams across application and I & O organization. Will be integrating with CICD pipelines.
  • Transaction trace - provides detailed, method level insight into business transactions and performance from UI through backend services and DBs.
  • AI - technology assistance in identifying both root cause and impact of issues in the company.
  • Full stack visibility - allows all in the organization to have clarity on operational health and transparency where issues exist.
  • Simplified integration to external data sources
Complex execution environments across modern and legacy technologies.
  • Reduce impact of issues through avoiding or quick remediation of issues.
  • Ability to get deep insight into issues we never saw before to improve client experience.
Greatest capability to cover a modern and legacy environment and provide traceability across all platforms.
The in app chat is very useful and responsive. Support staff is knowledgeable and typically solves issues quickly.
Elasticsearch, DX Infrastructure Manager (formerly CA Unified Infrastructure Management)
Application and infrastructure support organizations responsible for the operational health of business IT services. These functions include business applications used by sales, security, back office processing, and service requests (i.e. loan submissions...). It also includes teams supporting back-end services such as client or portfolio information and content management systems. Lastly it includes teams supporting technologies such as servers, data base, middle ware and security.

Ideally your candidate will have familiarity with application architecture used by your organization with a blend of deeper knowledge for the following:
System administrators - operating system to install, configure and troubleshoot product.
Middleware administrator - ability to support and consult on various technologies including application platforms, web servers, ESB, MQ, mule, kubernetes, containers.
Application development - ability to understand application architecture. Ideally familiarity with user interface development. Basic understanding of supported languages java, .net, nodejs...
  • Identification of root cause for issues impacting the operational health of business application disrupting business processes.
  • Identification of impacted users for identified issues.
  • Transparency across application and technology domains to effectively and efficiently respond to disruption events.
  • Ability to expose failures and performance degradation for individual business transactions across a complex underlying application design composed of both modern and legacy technologies.
  • Ability to reduce the number of monitoring technologies used in the enterprise.
  • Integration of user session data in a log analytics platform for different perspectives of user behavior.
  • Improvements in AI to more comprehensively apply the solution to external data sources.
  • Integration into development pipelines for full lifecycle visibility of the product.
  • Deeper insight into issues impacting data services.
  • More comprehensive coverage of non-application hosts to contribute to the AI.
The comprehensive solution provides significant insight into technology health enabling us to avoid issues impacting business processes. We expect to consolidate our tool set to offset product investments while providing a deeper, more transparent view of operational health across business and technology domains. No other tool provides an ability to trace user activity from mobile to mainframe with an AI engine to support the full transaction path and quickly identify root cause and impact.

Dynatrace for the win!

Dynatrace is being used to monitor the majority of production applications. This includes payments, b2b, database calls. It is used by operations and developers. It addressed getting APM into our org for automation and containerization.
  • Dynatrace was quick and easy to implement so we could see an immediate impact.
  • Root cause analysis and problem identification help lower MTTR.
  • The UI is easy to use, which makes for quick adoption.
  • The ability to alert on low volume right out of the box for transactions and services would be nice.
  • The fact that you can’t resize the number of open problems tile is frustrating.
  • The beehive dashboard page is worthless.
Well suited for automation and containerization. It is less appropriate for Ruby and web methods.
  • We have lowered MTTR.
  • We can address problems quicker.
No competition. Dynatrace won because of root cause analysis. Ease of deployment. Ease of use.
We don't have to spend a lot of time on the support. We can focus on helping dev teams and solving problems.

Dynatrace is used for select applications in our company. We use it to troubleshoot apps and improve the performance of key apps. We also use synthetic monitoring to ensure reliable uptime and availability for our customers. We recently deployed real-user monitoring as well to track user activity. We have also integrated Dynatrace with Splunk and Service Now. We do get problem alerts from Dynatrace in Service Now
  • The backtrack feature is awesome.
  • The replay features to troubleshoot applications issues is incredible.
  • The Appdex index provides a health score for executives.
  • The ability to view error logs within Dynatrace is a very useful feature.
  • End-to-end transaction monitoring and code injection help troubleshoot a lot of issues.
  • Basic functions like extracting a list of deployed or discovered hosts are missing from the console.
  • Needs more interfaces, like Solarwinds etc. to be built-in with Dynatrace
The Dynatrace team is always improving the app and the support is great. However the mindset is for a smaller sized organization. Eg. Role-based access to administer different apps is missing from this tool. Dynatrace reports are virtually non-existent and it only provides dashboards. Not an ideal situation when leadership is actually seeking tangible reports to be delivered to our clients (government mandated application status and outage period requirements)
  • We are able to provide an app score to the management.
  • Logs and portals are very transparent and provide a clear view into the state of the environment.
There’s is no other single product that does what Dynatrace currently provides. The combination of user-monitoring, applications performance monitoring, database monitoring, host-level metrics, smartscape to automatically detect the components in the environment are all great features. Dynamic dashboads are unique as well and there is no other competing product that does all of the above and that too, effortlessly.
We do have premium support from dynatrace and it has worked like a charm. We also engaged profession services to engage in the role of providing additional support. The online support has been exceptional as well. Of course, at times, we get responses like this feature is not supported or not yet available and will be available at a later date. We have submitted a few requests for enhancement as well and it gets voted up or down by the community.

Core application architecture and understanding of the basic concepts. Ability to deploy and update dynatrace settings and configurations within the environment. Team members also need core database, network and systems knowledge besides the above. ability to integrate leveraging APIs with other applications needs extensive API and other development background as well.

We have got tremendous support and response from the dynatrace support team as well as the larger community. We still have issues like the lack of role based administration, but we are told that it may be coming in a future release. Dynatrace/Appmon was quickly adopted across the entire organization. It’s nice to see the help desk using Dynatrace when clients call in to quickly diagnose and answer problems. It has really cut down on the time to answer and assist clients with their issues. Session replay is going play a huge role in our support teams.
  • We are easily able to detect memory issues and quickly pin point where they are coming from and most of the time, narrow it down to a specific user and their actions. With this ability, we can call clients and tell them exactly what they are doing and how it is affected the systems.
  • The ability to trace slow SQL statements is huge. Having insight to the database and knowing exactly where are slowness issues are occurring is 90% of the battle.
  • Detecting threading issues easily and connection pool issues has become very convenient before applications move to prod. We can easily see if there’s an issue before moving code, eliminating down time for our users.
  • Dynatrace could work on its naming convention for Appmon and Dynatrace users.
  • The web client could be more robust and have the ability to dive deeper into issues.
If you have a web app, you need Dynatrace. I can quickly and easily detect issues within an application making for a better user experience.
  • The ROI is immediate. Within seconds of installing agents, you get great detail into your applications.
  • What would take days and weeks to solve with an APM now takes 10 to 15 minutes.
Dynatrace offers training that no other APM tool offers, not to mention 100% data collection.
Support is amazing and they are always willing to follow up.
